The BDS Movement of Israel's 'Allies'

"[The situation in the West Bank is] rapidly deteriorating amid unprecedented levels of settler violence and settlement expansion, including the unacceptable decision to publish tenders for theE1 settlement project."
"[The Israeli government must] immediately halt the expansion of settlements and civilian administrative powers, ensure accountability for settler violence and investigate allegations against Israeli forces."

"Today, France and Canada are announcing alongside Britain that they will also ban the import of goods from illegal settlements."
"The Netherlands, Ireland, Belgium, Spain and Norway, which have either banned goods or are in the process of doing so, with many other countries, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Poland, Portugal and Sweden, [are] pledging today they will support further action."
"[The U.K. will also take action] against specific companies and individuals who provide services such as construction, infrastructure, financing or real estate for settlement expansion."
"The British government agrees that there is ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in areas of the West Bank, perpetrated by settler terrorists."
U.K. Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband
Israel is a liberal democracy with a fully independent judiciary. It has internal problems, just as every other state has. It also has external-derived problems that no other state must cope with. Within Israel's population there is a multitude of ethnic and cultural and religious groups, from Christians to Druze and Kurds, Circassians, Bedouin, Baha'i and Muslims with full citizenship. The Israeli-Palestinian segment of the population alone represents 18 percent of the population, with full citizen rights. Not a single Jew is permitted to live in the Palestinian Territories.

In a world other than the Middle East, the prospect of a Jewish state living alongside that of a Muslim state has been a problem for a century and more. With the decision of 1947 by the UN that Arabs calling themselves Palestinians and Jews could live side-by-side in sovereign states of their own, Israel declared
itself reborn in 1948 in an excess of joy, while Palestinians rejected the offer that partitioned the allotted territory for a state of its own. It has never, in the 80 years since then, moved to become a state through an agreement by which it would recognize the legitimacy of the Jewish state.

Simply put, it awaited an opportunity that would see the destruction of Israel, with the Judean ancestral land declared theirs and theirs alone. An expectation and reality that is held by Palestinians but which remains unrevealed to the Western democracies that remain convinced that a two-state 'solution' will bring peace and security to both purported states. This, while Palestinian leaders have never stopped inciting their people toward terrorism which they call martyrdom. And to ensure that those martyrs are rewarded on earth, not only in Paradise attended by 72 virgins, payment goes out from the Palestinian Authority to those who commit violence against Jews.

Palestinian children are taught from elementary school forward to value martyrdom and to conceive of themselves as avengers against Jewish 'occupation' of Palestinian land. This grooming had the assistance of UNRWA, the UN agency devoted to the welfare of Palestinian victimhood, and respected by the very same countries that now insist Israel must put an end to reclaiming their historical geography squatted on by colonialists from Egypt and Jordan. None of these European nations condemning Israel for territorial 'expansionism' claiming a plot to disentitle and cleanse Palestinian from their proposed state have ever had to face the violent hatred that Israel does that results in horrific atrocities against its population.

When orthodox Jews 'settle' on their ancestral heritage in Judea and Samaria which the West has titled the West Bank, the Western community is outraged. When youth among those 'settlers' behave like the Palestinians constantly attacking Jews, Israel is outraged. Never so much however, as the international community which lingers solely on Jewish violence committed by a relative handful of Jewish hooligans and never on the institutionalized Palestinian mass-indoctrinated jihadists who are the pride of their leadership forever inculcating the lust of sadistic savagery on their youth.

Foreign interference in the affairs of another country is unsupportable by international standards of nation-to-nation diplomatic decorum. When it comes to Israel, all hindrances to bullying are withdrawn. The states that would bridle with indignation should any other country attempt to inform them what they should and must do internally to handle difficult situations, feel it is perfectly legitimate to consign the Jewish state to an entirely different level of expectations.

By coincidence most of these countries have themselves been colonized by a gradual influx of immigrants, refugees and economic migrants from Muslim countries. The Koran states quite clearly that it is the  religious obligation of the ummah -- all those faithful to Islam worldwideeee, to convert non-believers, to broaden the base of Islamic followers, to do their utmost to ensure that Islam eventually overtakes all other religious devotion on Earth, in a grand conquest that will see it sweep to the position it was meant by Islam's prophet to attain to.

One by one, the countries that have aligned themselves with the forces devoted to degrading Israel's security will find themselves in the final death throes of their culture, laws, values and heritage. Their confusion over the changes already taking place, challenging their way of life, beliefs and customs turns them instead to blaming the very nation that despite its faith in democracy will not allow itself to be destroyed by the overwhelming forces of political Islam. That face of Islam that other Muslim-majority countries in the Middle East and North Africa are now protecting themselves from, even as the West falls.

These are also the countries, ironically and incidentally, that stood by and watched without intervention when Europe under Nazi occupation methodically and institutionally scheduled a Final Solution to dispose of the unwanted presence of Jews among them who had lived among them for centuries as undervalued citizens who contributed far more than their share to the prosperity and and cultural identity of any country they lived in, throughout the diaspora.

One for All, and All for One! Saudi-Turkey-Pakistan Alliance

"[Joint statement announcing the signing of the] Mecca Joint Defence Agreement."
"[A] shared commitment to further strengthening collective security and to promoting peace, security and stability in the region and beyond."
Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Pakistan

"The agreement does not represent an effort to establish a military axis or a sectarian bloc."
"Nor is it linked to any nuclear ambitions or arms race. Rather it is focused on building sustainable capabilities."
"[The agreement] does not constitute a threat to the security of any country in the region."
Saudi Deputy Minister for Public Diplomacy Rayed Krimly

"[The alignment] is clearly oriented toward Iran and meant to address Iran's new strategic approach which is geared toward dominance of the broader Gulf region."
"[The fact that Turkey and Pakistan border Iran means they could exercise a different kind of leverage [on Tehran]."
Umar Karim, Saudi foreign policy expert, University of Birmingham, England

What an alliance. Saudi Arabia, the keeper of the holiest site in Islam; Mecca. Turkey, with its second-largest military within the membership of the North American Treaty Organization. And Pakistan, the sole Islamic country that possesses nuclear weapons. Saudi Arabia has been confronted by Iran over its custodianship of Mecca. Since Turkey is a member of NATO, should it be attacked by a regional antagonist like Iran, would that bring the NATO alliance into conflict to protect one of its members? As a nuclear power, Pakistan is not exactly the most stable of countries, beset by its own version of the Taliban.

What an alliance of insecure, tribal, sectarian, ancient-antipathies-alive-to-the-present we have here. A trifecta of genuine Islamist Sunni states prepared to confront the Iranian Shi'ite Axis of 'Resistance'. Mind, they do have a lot in common. Each of those Sunni nations view the presence of a Jewish state in the Middle East as a grave offence against Islam's most sacred concept, that land once consecrated to Islam can never return to the aegis of another religion. Never mind that Judean ancestral heritage long predated the appearance of Islam by millennia.

As though to emphasize that the Sunni alliance is meant for the promotion of peace and stability in the region, only a few days earlier, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, stated that his country considers that "Israel is a threat to the entire Muslim world", calling for "a united military front" against it, just a day after Pakistan signed the joint defense agreement with Saudi Arabia and Turkey. "In the context of Israel, all Muslim countries must unite. I have no doubt about this" said Asif.

https://www.democracynow.org/images/headlines/99/83099/quarter_hd/h4-yemen-houthis-saudi-aramco-strike.jpg
Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis attacked a Saudi Aramco refinery on Sunday, two days after Saudi Arabia forged a defense pact with Turkey and Pakistan. The alliance pledges mutual defense, which means an armed attack on any one member counts as an attack on all. But after Sunday’s attack, it was not immediately clear whether Turkey or Pakistan would respond.  Democracy Now

Not to be outdone by Pakistan, Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan always has an opinion about Israel, with his opinions anything but friendly in the least, despite his sanctimonious statements in support of peace and stability in the region. Obviously peace and stability does not include Israel's presence. The champion of Hamas who celebrates the terrorist group's role in 'resistance', claims that Turkey feels threatened by Israel's attacks on Syria and Lebanon. In the former event, protecting the Syrian Druze community against deadly aggression, and in the latter, fighting back against Hezbollah terrorists sending rockets into Israeli communities in the Golan.

But for Erdogan it is Israel that is at fault for "aggression" that poses a threat to the world, and must be stopped. "If the Israeli thuggery is not stopped, the consequences will be borne by the entire region and all of humanity", Erdogan thundered in Turkey's parliament. "Israel must be stopped; this is the duty of humanity and the humanitarian front. History must not be allowed to repeat itself", he righteously spouted.

And as though modelled on NATO, the foreign ministry of Pakistan explained the pact would recognize that an attack on any member would be regarded as an attack on all; a rule that was "intended to strengthen collective deterrence". One, however, "not aimed at any particular country".

Saudi Arabia is being attacked anew by the Houthis in Yemen. That terrorist group is yet another Iranian proxy, doing the work for the Islamic Republic, the head of the snake that calls itself the Axis of Resistance. Yet that attack has gone unaddressed by this new coalition. Saudi Arabia has responded to the Houthi attacks by counterattacking them, and not the source of their orders, which is Iran. Iran is the sole source responsible for the agitation, fear and absolute instability wracking the region.

Yet the regional powers that have been targeted by the Islamic Republican Guard Corps that really run the country now, while seeking to protect themselves and their geographic installations from the destructive Iranian missiles and drones sent their way, fail repeatedly to go on the offensive and counter-attack, putting an end to decades of insecurity wrought by Shi'ite Iran in its deliberate goal to entirely destabilize the region and ensconce itself as the Persian uber-nation in control of the Arab Sunni Middle East.
"Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan are not trying to replace the United States. They are building the capacity to protect their interests when Washington cannot or will not do so."
"[Riyadh, in particular], wants several layers of security rather than one American umbrella [following the shock of the Iran war]."

Canada's Redoubtable Prime Minister

"The 14-point text is unambiguous on the point the White House is most eager to fog. It commits the United States, "with regional partners," to develop a "plan with at least USD 300 billion for the reconstruction and economic development of the Islamic Republic of Iran" -- $3 billion of which has, according to the unsurpassed journalist, Lee Smith, already been sent to Iran through by way of the United Arab Emirates. The president has called reports of that figure "fake news" and insisted nobody is putting up "ten cents." The clause nevertheless sits prominently in the document he signed."
"Only one question really matters: what does the agreement, if honored by Iran, deliver? It leaves enriched uranium inside Iran, concedes a right to enrichment that was recently a red line, permits the Iranian ballistic-missile program Trump now defends supposedly because other countries have missiles too, and pours reconstruction money into an economy whose ruling institution is the brutal Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)."
"The regime in Tehran, which has waited out many American presidents and means to wait out another, is betting they are bluffing about everything except the check."
Pierre Rehov, Gatestone Institute

Interesting how Canada-Israel relations have plunged into an icy bath in the past decade coinciding with Liberal governments lauding their 'progressive', DEI, Critical Race Theory values, and managing to impose them as credit-worthy virtues to abide by. In their playbook terrorists are 'militants', or 'gunmen' and a small nation that displays its sovereign right of response against existential threats represents an oppressive regime over-reacting to mere hyperbolic threats of violence however expressed in lavish bloodbaths.

Canada's previous and its current prime ministers take pride in their declared solidarity with the world's foremost victims whose claims to the historic patrimony of another people's ancestral land strikes a sympathetic chord with a government that hasn't hesitated to disown its own history while bemoaning itself as colonialist imperialists guilty of 'genocide' of Canada's aboriginals. The warm friendship and trust between Canada and the State of Israel exemplified most cordially by the preceding Conservative-led government is no more.

Canada's current prime minister, Mark Carney, finds much in common with the Palestinian Authority's autocratic, corrupt President Mahmoud Abbas, with the financially influential Emir of Qatar as exemplars of democracy, while giving a cold shoulder to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of the sole democracy in the Middle East, a Jewish state that governs a diverse religious, ethnic, cultural population seen nowhere else in the geography. Mr. Carney maintains cordial relationships with all but Mr. Netanyahu.

In Mr. Carney's opinion, Israel is guilty of any number of offences, primary among them its military responses to violent mass atrocities committed against Jews, much less ongoing threats of annihilation by the Islamic Republic of Iran, whose proxy militias, trained, funded and armed by the al-Quds branch of the Islamic Republican Guard Corps attack Israel from the south, from the north through Hamas and Hezbollah, goading Israel to invade Gaza and Lebanon in defensive reaction to never-ending attacks.

Montreal4Palestine says the effigies displayed during the demonstration were directed at political figures, Benjamin Netanyahu, Itamar Ben-Gvir and Donald Trump. Montreal police’s hate crimes unit is investigating the incident.

None of which gave Canada's prime minister pause in declaring support for Palestinian statehood, and issuing statements of condemnation against Israel for its military pursuit of terrorists in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as those in Lebanon. Praising Arab leadership for their peace overtures, imagined tolerance and democratic values, all absent but for a scant few Middle East countries, while slurring Israel for its presumed lack of those virtues seems to satisfy something deep within Mr. Carney's subconscious.

It looks suspiciously akin to antisemitism. Denouncing Israel for "illegal invasion" of Lebanon, with no nuanced acknowledgement that the government of Lebanon has failed to exert its sovereignty and responsibility to its population that suffers a malignant terror group in Hezbollah to place the country in a vulnerable position by constant rocket fire into northern Israel. Iran's regime, sworn to Israel's destruction, has traditionally occupied Lebanon through Hezbollah, yet no acknowledgement of that simple reality in understanding Israel's dilemma is forthcoming.

When Mr. Carney finally directly addressed the inflamed persecution of Canadian Jews by organized foreign interests which has seen years of 'pro-Palestinian' and 'anti-Israel' processions throughout Canadian streets, condemning Israel for 'genocide' against Palestinians, while threatening Jews in Canada with 'Final Solution', 'Globalize the Intifada', and 'From the river to the sea', codes well known to represent incitement to violence, he spoke of rabid antisemitism as an unforgivable social pathology.

One which he had every intention, finally of addressing, after appearing to nonchalantly fail to 'notice' the ubiquitous presence of Jew-hate emanating from a flood of new immigrants, refugees and migrants whose cultural traditions of that malady were carried with them into Canada to augment already-existing, but quiescent suspicion of Jews to bring the pathology to a crescendo of orchestrated taunts, threats and violence including vandalism, gunshots and incendiary devices thrown at synagogues, Jewish schools and private Jewish-owned businesses.

His grand solution, announced at a Toronto synagogue where he spoke comfortingly and comfortably about his intentions to finally put an end to the disorder, with the assignment of an advisory committee to study the issue of rampant antisemitism in Canada, was to appoint none other than Muslim and Arab known Jew-haters to the task of solving the problem that they themselves are responsible for.

In the end, it is interesting how two governments, one the United States of America, the other Canada, neighbours in North America, have a president and a prime minister thought to be quite unalike one another in temperament, character and values. Yet there is more to meet the eye than a cursory review of the behaviour of each, and in the end, summing up their stated positions, their concerns and their democratic declarations, along with the outcomes of their intentions, it becomes clear they have much in common.

A Victory of American Might And Capitulation

"Having failed to achieve his goals in the joint U.S.-Israel war on Iran, Trump is now attempting to disguise the setback as a victory."-Israeli military aggression."
"Enemy forces failed to attain any of their stated objectives and did not approach Iranian territorial waters."
Tehran Times

"[The] immediate and permanent [end to military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, paving the way to a] final deal [in the next 60 days] extendable with mutual consent."
"[The U.S. Treasury to waive sanctions on Iranian oil exports and the two countries to] refrain from interfering in each other's internal affairs."
Memorandum of Understanding

The Iranian regime is ecstatic; their not-without-reason interpretation of the Memorandum of Understanding is a surrender by the United States to the greater bargaining power and wisdom of the Islamic Republic whose tactical brilliance in closing the Strait of Hormuz sent U.S. President Donald Trump's triumphant self-congratulatory messages to the world in a tail-spin of second-think. "Oil-down" this master negotiator acknowledged as he became complicit with the Iranian regime's inexorable hold on power.

Sinking the Iranian navy, bombing its air defences and nuclear and missile sites was a clear military victory advantaging the United States over an obdurate, resilient enemy. The death of the totalitarian mastermind Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was a triumph of decapitation, or it would have been in any ordinary theocracy that was not backed by an Islamist-obsessed Republican Guard Corps, having at its service men schooled in a death cult subservient to a hidden Mahdi soon to arrive and demolish undeserving humanity.

Then came the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz, the attacks on Gulf oligarchies and the West reeling under an economic shock and rising energy prices, and the game suddenly turned sideways. Hesitating to invade and destroy the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the remnants of the regime's senior figures the American President held out the white flag of surrender while declaring its military victory, and its reconsideration over replacing the regime to release the Iranian people from its totalitarian bondage.

The vaunted Memorandum of Understanding which excluded Israel from the partnership between the United States and the Jewish state in reality unleashed Israel from the unbreakable bond of mutual trust, friendship and comradely military functionality. Israel lacks the appeal of wealthy Gulf states whose gilded pomp and oil production figure so large in world prosperity. All the more so when one such as Qatar can bedazzle the U.S. President with its generous shower of lucre and impressive gift-giving.

The MOU's "the Islamic Republic of Iran reaffirms that it shall not procure or develop nuclear weapons", and "the disposition of stockpiled enriched material" will be resolved by the International Atomic Energy supervising the process need not be questioned for the surface relief it promises, with the Islamic Republic whose word of honour has become a metaphor for conniving, threatening psychopathy.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran will maintain the current status quo of its nuclear program, and the United States of America will not impose any new sanctions and will not deploy additional forces in the region", according to the Memorandum of Understanding. Why would anyone dare question the reliability of such grandiloquent promises, unless they have had the misfortune of being on the receiving end of Tehran's ballistic missiles?

As a reward for its "compliance", the U.S. is prepared to develop a $300-billion plan for "the reconstruction and economic development of the Islamic Republic of Iran" and it will "terminate all types of sanctions", unfreeze Iran's bank accounts, and allow Iranian oil to flow, relinquishing control of the Strait of Hormuz to Iran and Oman.  Truly a victory for the ages.

In the U.A.E. -- Waiting It Out For Now

"We are at this juncture pint. Are we going to maintain the view of the world that we had before, or not? Is this war going to mutate our DNA?"
"[The DNA of the United Arab Emirates, and much of the Persian Gulf region was coded for] connectivity and economic relations despite political strife."
"The whole world economy is [now] Iran's human shield. This is now Iran's new-found nuclear weapon."
Mohammed Baharoon, director general, Dubai research centre B'huth

"[In attacking so grievously, Iran attempted to] break the model we successfully embodied."
"They failed, because the people stayed. We are already building resilience."
"We know that a military solution alone will not work."
Anonymous U.A.E. official

"We can be under no illusion: this has gone on longer than any of us imagined."
"Trump doesn't inspire any confidence. You hear there is a deal, then you hear bombs."
"There is an incredible amount of interest in being here. Everyone understands: ending the war] is not in their hands."

In Dubai, schools have reopened now that the missile and drone alerts no longer arrest people's attention to impending danger. The UAE's financial centre is back in business. Traffic has resumed its street-choking normalcy. All seems back to normal, but uncertainty over new strikes on Iran by the U.S. and Israel occasioning the certainty of the Islamic Republic reacting by targeting its near neighbours remains. An active return to the conflict haunts the minds of those who had enjoyed their lives in this thriving metropolis.

Mohammed Baharoon's mind returns to the reality of Iran's regime's use of violence for the purpose of pressuring its adversaries. And should the regime continue its control of the Strait of Hormuz its ramifications in continuing to strangle local economics is certain to have its impact beyond the Gulf as a financial and logistical linchpin.

The unforeseen was realized when the aerial bombardments of the United States and Israel, and the pinpoint assassinations of key Iranian figures led fundamentalist Islamists in the country to a devious scheme demonstrating it had no need to develop a nuclear device when control of the Strait could accomplish economic Armageddon.

When the war was yet young, the United Arab Emirates saw a barrage of over 2,500 missile and drone strikes rain down, mostly in the most populated of its seven emirates, Dubai. The strikes were a menacing warning to the U.A.E. that its reputation as an oasis of wealth and stability was vulnerable to punishment by the Islamic Republic.

Of Dubai's four million residents, 90 percent are comprised of foreign citizens living and working in the futuristic city. Landmarks such as the Fairmont Hotel and the Birj Al Arab, Dubai International Airport and buildings in the financial centre were targeted by Iranian bombs. Following the ceasefire in April those strikes decelerated and halted, enabling many resident who had left, to return. The stock marketed rebounded and though tourism was badly wounded, construction is ongoing.

The 80 percent hotel occupancy in Dubai had dropped precipitately to 10 percent and no signs yet have arisen that tourism will rebound any time soon. Should the current uncertainty drag on, according to Cherif Sleiman, families may decide to leave and enroll their children at schools in their countries of origin. Living in Dubai the past 20 years, Sleiman is staying, committed to the U.A.E. and trustful of the government.

Cherif Sleiman fears ongoing uncertainty around the war will cause more families to leave Dubai. (Katarina Premfors for The Washington Post)

In neighbourhoods at the outskirts of the city, where migrant workers live, the war's effects is felt particularly among those who represent the working backbone of the Dubai economy. Migrant workers who support their families back home suffered most of the war casualties. These workers were laid off en masse, as hotels and restaurants closed while the conflict proceeded. Higher fuel and food prices afflict them most acutely. "It is not OK, but we are managing for now" security guard, 52-year-old Ghanian Isaac Antwi stated.

Despite the fear of  higher prices, Ugandan Simon Obbo, 27, fails to recognize an option of leaving. "I still need to achieve my dream, he explained. "That dream is supporting my family." Alex, manager at one of the oldest companies, spoke of the current dilemma over future prospects. "Business is down 95 percent. We fear that this will not end, that it will become like Ukraine."

It's An Unremittingly Harsh World for Jews

The clearest takeaway from this study is that public opinion on Canada and Israel is not one-dimensional. Canadians may be broadly negative toward Israel overall, but that does not translate into wholesale rejection of Israel’s right to exist or defend itself.
Three quarters of Canadians, 75%, agree that Israel has a right to defend itself when threatened by other countries. Two thirds, 66%, agree that Israel has a right to exist. A majority, 57%, also say Israel faces a uniquely difficult situation in a hostile region.
At the same time, many Canadians are critical of Israel’s behaviour and intentions. Just over half, 52%, agree that Israel is its own worst enemy because it makes no effort to live peacefully with its neighbours. Only 33% believe Israel is actively seeking peace with neighbours willing to stop threatening it. In other words, many Canadians still recognize Israel’s security concerns, but they are far less convinced by the country’s current political and military posture.
Israel’s overall standing is weak across the country. Favourable opinion sits at 22% nationally, and falls to 17% in Quebec. It is also notably lower among women than men, 17% versus 27%. By voting intention, perceptions differ sharply. Conservative voters are far more likely to view Israel favourably, at 38%, while favourable opinion drops to 17% among Liberal voters and 12% among NDP voters.
Canadians who rely mainly on family and friends for Middle East news are more likely to hold a favourable impression of Israel, at 38%, than those who rely on Canadian mainstream media, at 20%. More broadly, mainstream Canadian news outlets remain the dominant source of information on Middle East issues, cited by 57% of respondents, followed by social media at 25% and mainstream international media at 20%.
Asked about the Government of Canada’s response to rising antisemitic incidents since October 7 and the subsequent Middle East conflict, 39% say Ottawa needs to do more. Only 29% say the government is doing enough, and just 7% say it is doing too much.
Canadians are clearly more negative toward Israel than they were three years ago. That shift likely reflects the cumulative effect of war, regional escalation, humanitarian devastation, and the increasingly visible costs of prolonged military action. But Canadians have not moved to a simplistic all-or-nothing position. They still affirm Israel’s right to exist. They still affirm its right to defend itself. And they also affirm homeland rights for Palestinians, almost to the same degree.
Perception of Israel; Survey of Canadians, Leger Poll

The recently-published Leger poll that looked into Canadians' support for Israel has concluded that support has dropped to quite a degree since the October 7, 2023 invasion of southern Israel by thousands of Palestinians, led by the terrorist group Hamas, with a clear plan laid out to punish Jews for living on their own ancestral land, that Palestinians claimed as their own, having chosen to reject the United Nations Partition Plan that divided that historically Judean landscape to share between Jews and Palestinians. That punishment took the form of mass rape, torture, sadistic savagery on a scale unimaginable by most sane minds, to rampage through farming communities, slaughtering children, the elderly, men and women.

There is always a reaction of sympathy in the immediacy of Jewish tragedy revealed, and it lasts as long as it takes Jews to amass  resources to respond to their deadly persecutors. So when Israel dispatched the Israeli Defense Forces into Gaza to hunt down the mass murderers who have always used the strategy of concealing themselves behind Palestinian civilians, using schools, mosques, community centres and hospitals as headquarters, weapons storage and communications centres amidst a civilian population, the stage is set for triumphant propaganda to persuade foreign news services and governments that Israel is attacking the human rights of defenseless people.

That 'public relations' ploy has been perfected against a background of fairly universal, and most frequently underground hatred of Jews and they come together  with a ferocity of awakened antisemitism justifying itself on the basis of 'recognizing' ancient Jewish stereotypes and caricatures of Jews as shrewd manipulators whose goal is to rule the world for their own malign purposes. Accused of controlling world banking, news media, and governments, despite all real events pointing to the obvious opposite, a snarling global media faults Israel for 'indiscriminate' and 'disproportionate' responses to atrocities it suffers when it responds to protect its population.

Notionally and nominally viewed as a Western ally, a solid democracy living in a hostile environment of Middle Eastern potentates, theocracies, kingdoms and oil sheikdoms where oil resources exploited by its neighbours have earned great favour in those same Western democracies, Israel's friendships and reliance on erstwhile allies is put to the test, and particularly in these last three years, that test has failed. In the IDF's campaign to destroy the terrorist group with a covenant to destroy Israel from Gaza, other similar groups in Lebanon and Yemen, controlled by the Islamic Republic all sought to pounce in unity, and all have been put back on their heels by the tiny nation that appears as a discrete spot on the globe.

Countries in the Jewish diaspora where Jews have lived for centuries and sometimes millennia have latterly become unsafe for continued Jewish existence, from Germany to France, Britain to Ireland, Spain to Greece, Australia to Canada. A massive influx of Muslims has infiltrated the West through a process of immigration, refuge and migration, bringing with them their ancient scriptures demanding jihad against non-believers, beginning with Jews, and since that jihad  takes many forms, the faithful are obliged to their duty, which translates to making life unbearable for Jews wherever they live, beginning with the state of Israel.

Governments which commit to equality for all their citizens, suddenly find it difficult to extend that equality to their Jewish populations in view of much larger demographics of Muslim populations. News media obligingly play the role of transmitting subtle, then not-so-subtle portrayals of the Jewish state's questionable responses to threats when forced by violence to respond in kind in a geography that recognizes no other kind of reactions than militancy to be respected and anything approaching diplomacy is a byzantine puzzle to unravel.

In Canada, as in much of Europe, a flood of 'progressive'-left, Critical Race Theory, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion imperatives have refashioned society through their governments' commitments to empathetic action in reaction to charges of 'colonialism' and exploitation of less-developed nations and societies during past imperialistic eras. Conflating Israel, an indigenous people to the Middle East, with 'colonialism' in lock-step with Palestinian propaganda has succeeded in isolating Israel as a holdover from a now-despised age, completely perverting history and reality.

The incoherent and confused Canadian reaction to the recent Leger poll reflects to a great degree that condition now prevailing where Israel has become an outcast among democratic nations, through a successful campaign of delegitimization portraying the Jewish state, and Jews in general everywhere as illegal occupiers to be shunned and condemned. That Israel's scientific and technological and agricultural advances have been admired, acclaimed and shared, doesn't spare it one iota, nor the number of Jewish Nobel Laureates, out of proportion to their global population numbers.

Do any of Israel's detractors in the West even note that when Jews mount protests they do so peacefully, holding not only the  flags of Israel aloft, but flags denoting their countries of  residence. 'Pro-Palestinian' protests, on the other hand, see people masked, shouting invective, threatening the local Jewish population, chanting for the destruction of Israel, wearing keffiyehs to signal Palestinian triumphs over adversity when a death-cult mentality identifies their target as genocidal. 'Palestine' is a useful symbol for those who use it  as a cudgel, nothing more, with which to demolish Israel's place in the world.

"Disrupting and Degrading and Blinding Iran's Ability to See, Communicate and Respond"

"The Iranians are throwing everything they have at this."
"It is all hands on deck."
"If their cyber operators are breathing, then they will be on their keyboards."
Chris Krebs, former director, Cybersecurity and Information Security Agency (CSIA)

"An Iran-linked group calling itself Handala claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on Portage, Michigan-based medical device maker Stryker Corp., carried out on March 11, 2026. Handala said the attack was in retaliation for events related to the conflict in Iran."
"The cyberattack affected Stryker’s internal Microsoft software system, disrupting the company’s order processing, manufacturing and shipping."
"As a scholar who researches cyber conflict, I’ve found that in periods of geopolitical tension such as the current U.S./Israel-Iran war, cyber operations often sit right next to missiles and airstrikes as a tool that states and state-linked groups use to inflict damage, probe weaknesses and signal resolve to their enemies."
"The Stryker case is notable because it shows how quickly a regional conflict can translate into disruption for organizations far from the battlefield. It also illustrates the vulnerabilities of U.S. organizations, including those involved in critical infrastructure."

Iran has long had sophisticated hacking operations. Jakub Porzycki/NurPhoto via Gettyimages

Thousands of Israelis earlier this month received texts purportedly from the IDF that encouraged them to download a fake shelter app. Had they done so, reams of personal data could have been stolen. This, while others in Israel received a mass text that said: "Netanyahu is dead. Death is approaching you and soon the gates of hell will open before you. Before the fire of Iranian missiles destroys you, leave Palestine." An obvious play to strew panic and demoralization. According to cybersecu3rity experts, these messages represent a minuscule portion of a vast cyberwar between Iran, Israel and the United States.

Iranian hackers who have stabled themselves in the digital shadows for years are considered among the most reliably battle-hardened operatives Tehran can depend upon in this aspect of the Islamic Republic's existential war of survival. The ploy of sowing fear in the Israeli and American public is a powerful yet little-appreciated weapon remaining at the disposal of the Iranian regime, hoping to see some satisfying results in public chaos and a move in both countries to call off the conflict. These tactics, familiar to both Israeli and American cyber experts who have long engaged in their own counter battle, employ their own.

Three different levels of cyber operators have been identified in Iran, with boundaries that are frequently blurry, according to analysts and former cybersecurity officials. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Iran's Ministry of Intelligence operate the most experienced corps of cyber hackers, with a wide array of front organizations whose purpose is to introduce plausible deniability for attacks and the issuance of public threats.

Semi-autonomous hacking proxies, cybercriminals and contractors are also in the hire of the Islamic Republic, with volunteer hackers bringing up the rear to mobilize behind Tehran. Israel-based employees of a large U.S. defence contractor are believed by cyber experts to have been doxxed. Emails of politicians in Albania which hosts an Iranian opposition group have received similar treatment, while a Polish nuclear research centre has been infiltrated. The most sensitive espionage is thought to have gone unreported.

A hacking front named as Handala is believed by cybersecurity researchers and the American government to be tied to Iranian intelligence; the hacking group claimed to have wiped 200,000 devices in the most consequential wartime cyber attack against the U.S. ever seen, according to one of the most senior civilian U.S. cybersecurity officials, Chris Krebs. It was Handala that claimed to have broken into FBI director Kash Patel's personal email account, to publish personal photographs.

Iranian hackers, no matter their level and association, are not quite the match of the U.S. and Israel with their formidable offensive capabilities, an illustration being the significant damage the Iranian nuclear program sustained in 2009 with the unleashing of the mysterious Stuxnet offensive. According to General Dan Caine, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, the U.S. launched cyber attacks just prior to the February 28 airstrikes on Iran "disrupting and degrading and blinding Iran's ability to see, communicate and respond".

Years ago, Israel's cyber intelligence dealt one of the most telling blows of the war, when it hacked the majority of traffic cameras in Tehran as part of an extensive intelligence-gathering operation preceeding supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's assassination. A popular Iranian prayer app was used by Israel to send notifications to millions inciting regime defections: "Only this way can you save your life for Iran", one of the delivered messages read.

According to analysts in cyber security  Iran's more intensely threatening groups methodically search for vulnerabilities such as entry points to position themselves to target networks. Seedworm, a group the U.S. and U.K. state has links to Iranian intelligence has been identified through attempts to enter U.S. networks since early February, revealed cybersecurity firm Symantec. Resulting in the group being extracted out of a U.S. bank, an airport and software company supplying the defence industry.

Iranian cyberhacking is focused on breaking through Israel's hardened cyber defences by launching thousands of wiper attacks on Israeli companies, with success in hitting 50 of them. Security cameras hacked across Israel and the Gulf aided Iran to target drone and missile strikes, pointed out Israeli cybersecurity company Check Point Software. Gill Messing at Check Point added Iranian hackers demonstrated a 'new level' of "scale, effect and sophistication" co-ordinating strikes with the mass text messages sent to Israeli citizens.

There is also speculation that Tehran, in throttling its internet for the purpose of domestic censorship, might have inadvertently set back its own hackers' advances in cyber offences. Although there is  some fear that Iranian hackers may have infiltrated undetected into sensitive economic or military targets, biding time to suck up data. "They could have longterm access that they are not ready to burn", suggested Andy Piazza at cybersecurity firm Palo Alto Networks.

Since war began, Iranian hackers have been at work throughout the Persian Gulf region – and far beyond. Still from YouTube video

The Incomparable Israel-India Alliance

"It is a privilege and an honour for me to stand before this distinguished House. I do so as the Prime Minister of India, and as a representative of one ancient civilization addressing another."
"I bring with me the greetings of 1.4 billion Indians, and a message of friendship, respect, and partnership."
"India has also endured the pain of terrorism. We feel your pain. We share your grief. India stands with Israel, firmly with full conviction, in this moment and beyond."
"Like you, we have a consistent and uncompromising policy of zero tolerance for terrorism, with no double standards."
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi just concluded his second visit to Israel. His first took place in 2017, becoming the first prime minister of India to visit Israel. He spoke of the acknowledgement of much in common, historically, culturally and politically between the two nations. In speaking of India's high alert over terrorism, addressing the Knesset, it is clear that Islamist terrorism that has kept Israel on guard since 1948, is the very menace that India too has faced, and from that very same year-before, when Pakistan divided from India and a mass exchange of population took place through partition.

The Partition offer made by the United Nations between Israel and those calling themselves Palestinians failed to conclude with two states side-by-side, when Israel gratefully and ebulliently took up the offer and the Arab Palestinians rejected it. That rejection has continued with each offer Israel has made through negotiations where concessions were never enough for the Palestinians demanding the ultimate concession of  Israel's dissolution and the land 'from the river to the sea' turned over to the Palestinians; land historically and ancestrally Judean.

India and Pakistan continue to confront one another over the disputed border of Kashmir. India aspires to live in peace with its combative neighbour, while knowing that there will be eruptions of violence emanating from Pakistan into India. Internally, India hosts the third largest Muslim population globally as citizens, about 14 percent of its population. Distrust between the fractious nature of Muslim vs Hindu can flare at any time. India with its vast population base and huge ethnic/religious/ideological groups must also grapple with threats from its Sikh population that promotes a geographic schism in the Punjab called Kalistan.

But it was a fundamentalist Islamist Pakistani group that launched a massive attack on India's financial hub in south Mumbai that brought home the extremist hatred of religious domination through jihad when a dozen coordinated attacks in 2008 shut the city down for three days while Indian security forces battled with murderous armed terrorists shooting and setting off explosives in a catastrophic scene of pandemonium and bloodshed, where in total 175 civilians, security personnel, and nine attackers, were killed. Bodies of many of the dead hostages showed signs of torture or disfigurement.

"[India honours the ancient Jewish communities of India]: the Bene Israel of Maharashtra, the Cochini Jews of Keralam, The Baghdadi Jews of Kolkata and Mumbai, and the Bnei Menashe of the North East have enriched India."
"In my home state, Gujarat, there is a school set up by a Bene Israeli family -- Mister and Missus Best. It is an excellent school, and of course, it is called the Best School!"

Cochin Jews, c. 1900.

India is forced to arm itself in readiness for the prospect of defending itself against further violence from Pakistan. Like Israel, India is also a nuclear power ... as is Pakistan. Pakistan battles its own insurgent Islamists as it happens, as well as preparing itself for conflict with Afghanistan where skirmishes have already taken place between the two through accusations by Pakistan that Afghanistan is giving haven to Pakistan's Taliban that threaten Islamabad. The irony being that Pakistan had sheltered and its Intelligence Services had trained the Afghanistan Taliban.

According to the Stockholm International Research Institute, 34 percent of Israel's total arms exports between 2020 and 2024, valued at roughly $20.5 billion have gone to India. Israel supplies India with "missiles, seekers, radars, sensors, electronic warfare suites, UAV technologies, and a host of force multipliers."

India represents one of the few geographies where persistent antisemitism has not made its way into the culture; Jews have lived safely in India for centuries; unlike the Jewish experience throughout Europe where diaspora Jews have lived for millennia. In India no pogroms threatened the security of Jews living there, no expulsions took place, nor state-institutionalized persecution. Much less ghettos imposed upon Jewish-Indian enclaves.

Times of Israel
"Israel is often called the 'startup nation'."
"Our aspirational spirit aligns naturally with Israel's innovation ecosystem. I see a lot of synergies in areas such as quantum technologies, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence."
"We are also working with Israel on creating cross-border financial linkages using our Digital Public Infrastructure."

Depends on Whose Ox Is Being Gored

https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRzmC-yCn5KtLuB1zhB5sUZhGwmc4xz5vNi0oFOQJRQkA&s
"There are two rumours afloat tonight, but we can confirm nothing. One, that the German fleet has sailed into the Kattegat, north of Denmark, west of Sweden and south of Norway, and is heading for the Skagerrak. Two, that a German expeditionary force is forming at the Baltic pots and that dozens of passenger ships have been hurriedly collected to transport it to Scandinavia."
April 9, 1940
"Hitler this spring day has occupied a couple more countries. At dawn Nazi forces invaded the two neutral states of Denmark and Norway in order, as an official statement piously puts it, 'to protect their freedom and independence'. After twelve swift hours it seems all but over. Denmark, with whom Hitler signed a ten-year non-aggression pact only a year ago, has been completely overrun, and all important military points in Norway, including the capital, are now in Nazi hands. The news is stupefying. Copenhagen occupied this morning, Oslo this afternoon, Kristiansand this evening. All the great Norwegian ports, Narvik, Trondheim, Bergen, Stavanger, captured."
"The Fuhrer has given his answer ... Germany has occupied Danish and Norwegian soil in order to protect those countries from the Allies, and will defend their true neutrality until the end of the war."
"A special communique of the High Command said Copenhagen had been completely occupied by eight a.m. The German forces, it said, had been transported in ships from Baltic ports during the night, landed at Copenhagen at dawn, and had first occupied the citadel and the radio station."
"It was clear that the Danes had offered no resistance whatsoever. The Norwegians, it appeared, had, though the Germans were confident it would cease by nightfall."
"The Danish Minister here had protested in the Wilhelmstrasse early this morning, but had added quickly that Denmark was not in a position to fight Germany. The Norwegians were not supposed to fight, but apparently did. There are reports of German naval losses. All the Danish and Norwegian correspondents were fished out of their beds at dawn this morning and locked up at the Kaiserhof. It was the first they knew that their countries had been 'protected'.
"Tomorrow the Volkische Beobacter, Hitler's own pride (and money-maker) will bannerline in red ink: "GERMANY SAVES SCANDINAVIA!"
Berlin Diary, William L. Shirer

Arrival of a transport of Dutch Jews in the Theresienstadt ghetto. Czechoslovakia, February 1944.
"...Thanks to the proximity of Sweden 7,200 Jews and some 700 of their non-Jewish relatives were transported to safety in the course of three weeks in October 1943. In some cases Jews were caught by the local authorities; some did not want to leave; others had no means or connections enabling them to embark on the journey. A total of 482 Jews, mostly elderly and sick, were caught and deported to the camp of Theresienstadt."
"The rescue operation by the Danish underground is exceptional because of the widespread agreement and resolve of many Danes from all walks of life – intellectuals, priests, policemen, doctors, blue-color workers – to save the Jews. While some Danes were pro-Nazi and even joined the Waffen SS and participated in war crimes, the underground members implemented the unique rescue. They viewed it as a national refutation of Nazi Germany and a reaffirmation of democratic and humanistic values. It should be noted that since the 1990’s historians have uncovered new perspectives of this operation. Danish scholars have shown that in many cases big sums of money were paid to the seamen who brought the Jews across to Sweden."
Yad Vashem

That was then. This is now. Now, Denmark and Sweden suggest that Israel be booted out of the United Nations. This would be the United Nations that has, over the years, sanctioned Israel on hundreds of occasions while studiously overlooking the human rights abuses of two members of the permanent Security Council, China and Russia, and obliging Iran with critical UN positions and rarely sanctioning any Islamic-majority states for their institutionalized human rights crimes. Denmark has, while declaring itself a friend of Israel and is a home to 7,000 Danish Jews, consistently voted against Israel at the UN.

Statement on behalf of Denmark, France, Greece, Slovenia and the United Kingdom. We welcome the important progress that has been made in recent months to end the bloodshed in Gaza, secure the release of the hostages and turn the page on two tragic years of conflict. While the international community is focused on building a peaceful and prosperous future for Gaza, we must not forget what is happening in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

Israel has suffered 80 years of grievous violence committed against it and its people through lethal attacks by the Palestinian community in its unrelenting war against the Jewish State. While European countries talk incessantly of a 'two-state solution', and Israel was willing to make an agreement with the leaders of the Palestinians, each one was refused, even when Israel's outreach sought to make accommodations for all the demands of the Palestinians. To no avail. To this day, no Palestinian leader will agree to recognize Israel. Without that formal concession there is no two-state solution. For Palestinians anticipate that only Israel's destruction is acceptable, leaving the Palestinians to claim Judean ancestral land for their own.

The fiction of Palestinians living in 'occupied' territory cannot stand up to scrutiny. Without Israel's constant military oversight of the Palestinian territories, lethal attacks would simply proliferate as they once did, before Israel took steps to materially separate itself from the Palestinian side, making it difficult for terrorists and ordinary Palestinian citizens to enter Israel with the intention to murder Jews. With no intention to live in peace and mutual security with Israel, the Palestinians still manage to convince the West that they wish to live in peace. October 7, 2023, punctured that fantasy, but not convincingly enough for Israel's detractors.

Denmark has assembled the support of the European Union and other allies in its resistance to President Donald Trump's determination to coerce, threaten, and bully Greenland and Denmark into agreeing to hand over the strategic Arctic island to the United States for 'security' purposes. Denmark is outraged that the Kingdom's protectorate status of long standing of Greenland is under pressure from the United States. There is no end of support for its refusal to succumb to either blandishment or raging accusation from President Donald Trump.

Yet the blood shed of thousands of Israeli Jews by Palestinians and the reality that the Palestinian leadership which has groomed its population since 1948 to consider Jews and Israel their enemy needing to be vanquished by any means in an ongoing territorial battle with a country that wants and deserves to live in peace is of total disinterest to Israel's critics -- among them nations that had long been considered by Israel to be among its allies. Immense oil wealth in Arab sheikdoms has enabled states like Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Iran to invest heavily in Western universities, in concert with the Muslim Brotherhood whose agenda is Israel's destruction.

Yet such transparent ploys fail to penetrate the logic-oblivious mind of Western governments, which  give heed to slanderous accusations against Israel, in the process to delegitimize the Jewish State whose presence is an assurance of defence of Jews throughout the world now facing a mind-wrenching ambush of virulent antisemitism fuelled by the Middle Eastern enemies of Israel who manipulate wider public opinion on charges of 'genocide' against a nation that has never been free of violent deadly attacks seeking its annihilation.

Greenlanders as the original inhabitants of their Arctic island, can be defended against the territorial-acquisitive manoeuvering of a powerful nation's president, with an outraged world looking on and Denmark surrounded with sympathetic allies. Israel, on the other hand, facing existential dilemmas, is viewed as an instigator of violence against a population that claims its territory as their own while perfecting terrorism to a fine degree of barbarity.
