The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) flagged posts by a user of MeWe, identifying the user as a supporter of domestic terror-related activity. MEMRI is well known for its function of tracking and documenting extremist and terrorist communications, bringing their messages to the public eye; essentially 'outing' them and their agendas in a bid to educate the wider public, while alerting public authorities to their poisonous online presence.

Following the violent siege that took place in Washington, D.C. where a rioting swarm of far-right protesters flooded and entered the Capitol, making a mockery of their government and trashing the building, the Canadian user began posting on an alternate platform -- a diversion used by many hard-right types once Facebook and Twitter began seriously moderating misinformation -- with the intention of mustering an attack on the Canadian capital, ostensibly for the purpose of overthrowing the Canadian government.

At the same time the user began posting assassination threats against both politicians and public health figures in Canada. Targeting among others, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney, federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh, and the chief medical officer of health of Alberta, Dr.Deena Hinshaw. And nor were Americans overlooked, with President Joe Biden, Dr.Anthony Fauci as head of the U.S.medical response to the pandemic, Microsoft's Bill Gates, and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg were also included.

Alerted to these postings by MEMRI, the platform declared it has banned the user. Before all this, however, months of angry, violent posts naming a list of people to be killed were on show, a list that included health officials, posts targeting political decision-making, and social restrictions relating to COVID-19 avoidance precautions. Inspired by the events in Washington, where a core group of Canadians had migrated to take part in the frenzied protests, the user had thought to incite a similar siege on Canada's Parliament.

The MeWe poster made liberal use of handgun emojis to emphasize his urging toward violence; a sentiment of "hate beyond hate", as he put it. Several messages were posted that Trudeau should be shot, and "die allready [sic]", handgun emojis at the ready. Both Trudeau and Singh were characterized as the "2 most wanted DEAD people in Canada". The man posted under the username DAVil1 OSCP, location Canada, as an "OSCP consultant". 

An educated guess for OSCP is offered as "Offensive Security Certified Professional" in ethical hacking, or "white hat" computer security searching for routes in computer systems to block off from malicious attacks. According to the spokesperson for MeWe, its corporate model was meant to support privacy and opposing surveillance capitalism, and cannot obviously be linked to offensive postings by social degenerates.

Offending Sociopathic Neighbours

Should anyone, aware that something isn't quite right about a neighbour, risk alienating and offending them beyond what any sane person could imagine, if their behaviour impacts on your own quality of life, living in a shared structure like an apartment building? People do have an obligation of courtesy to others, not to infringe on the comfort and quality of life of other people through indulging in acts that will impact others, and noise is certainly one of those offences.

In this instance, a young firefighter who lived in an apartment building, approached a neighbour, a 40-year-old woman who didn't appreciate his complaint that loud music emanating from her apartment was disturbing and making it very difficult for him and his girlfriend to enjoy the comfort of their own home, much less enabling them to get a good night's sleep. Who could imagine that a request for consideration of others would result in a deadly fire set in malicious spite?



A fire deliberately set to teach a young man a 'lesson' against impinging on the sensitivities of someone living in close proximity whose own sensibilities were obviously set in opposition to any reasonable request to tamp down night-time noise levels. The lesson was that ten people lost their lives when flames engulfed the nine-storey apartment building, causing panicked residents to clamber dangerously over and around balconies and climbing to the building's roof in a risky attempt to escape the flames.

The fire that ensued represented the deadliest fire in over ten years that the city of Paris has had to contend with. The responding fire crews unfurled their rescue ladders bit by bit to hook them to the structure, risking their own safety in a bid to rescue residents from the building's burning upper floors. No fewer than 50 people were secured and taken to safety by emergency personnel, the firefighters who saw their obligation as saving lives in a catastrophic fire that took five hours to bring under control by over 250 firefighters deployed to the scene.

Neighbours later recounted overhearing the woman and her off-duty firefighter neighbour arguing over the loudly intrusive music coming from the woman's apartment prior to the fire. Police were called and in responding to the dispute were informed by the young man that he and his girlfriend were leaving the apartment to find peaceful sleep somewhere other than in their apartment. They felt the neighbour had lost her mind, they added, and one day an accident would occur because of her behaviour. That 'accident' wasn't long in coming.

The 22-year-old firefighter recounted returning to the building shortly afterward around midnight, in hopes that the woman herself had left the building. He ran into her in the stairwell, where smoke was already becoming evident. "She wished me good luck, telling me that I loved flames", he recalled. Later yet, another resident informed the young man that the woman had placed paper and wood in front of his apartment door to create a fire.

After he had come across the woman on her way down the stairwell as he ran to the upper floor where his apartment was located, he attempted to evacuate the building, alerting people to the fire. An off-duty police officer, another apartment resident, rang doorbell after doorbell, hoping to alert as many people as possible to escape the building as fire spread and chaos broke out among the residents. "I couldn't save everyone, I can't forgive myself", the man said of the smoke and flames that kept him from climbing beyond the fourth floor.

Calling Out Racism -- Or A New Inquisition?

Dr. Parada may have recalled some urgent task he had forgotten to look after at that juncture in the meeting on October 27, as he quietly left the gathering. But his departure was noted as was his absence at this event which was Black-oriented, requiring the utmost, rapt attention from all in attendance. Dr. Parada may have been less than rapt, turning his attention away from the awarding of praise to a black colleague, and he was accused of having committed "a violent act of anti-Blackness, misogyny and misogynoir" which translated means misogyny related to a black female.

Campuses across North America have been gorging themselves on a feast of raucous, outraged organized protests against anything that occurs at colleges and universities that is taken as a symptom of 'micro-aggression'. Included in that catch-phrase is anything that appears to belittle a 'special' unprivileged minority, as interpreted by that minority, including cultural appropriation, where at special events someone might be misguided enough to dress in a manner reflecting a culture other than their own. White people are of course particularly skilled at insulting minority groups and most of the ire is directed toward them.

The Black Liberation Collective that appears to have Ryerson University quaking in its scholarly boots sent an open letter to senior university and social work administrators, dated October 31; the letter was posted to Facebook the following day. Accusing Dr. Parada of failing "to contain your anti-Black rage", being responsible for "a public display of toxic masculinity", demanding imperiously that he "immediately step down" as director of the school of social work. He must also apologize in a very public arena "and publicly release how you will genuinely address anti--Black racism".

The professor, recognizing just how powerfully privileged was the rage against him, did step down as director of the university's School of Social Work. Who can blame him? The intention being that he would resume teaching in the guise of just another academic without pretensions to leadership in the field that he had so abysmally failed in. Undoubtedly, although this must be a great relief to him, it appears only to have further infuriated the collective black-feminist rage against the man; his swift accommodation of the initial demand meant he wasn't bleeding sufficiently to satisfy their bloodlust.

The tenor of this almost-inchoate venomous rage might seem to some onlookers like a demonstration of black anti-white racism, but of course that could not possibly be the case, could it? The letter was signed "In rage, solidarity and kindness" by "concerned students" whose names were not included on the letter, as well being signed by the social work student union, the Ryerson Feminist Collective and United Black Students at Ryerson. The kind rage expressed by all concerned certainly released a flood of vitriol and race-consciousness.

Then on November 7 another kind missive was posted on Facebook in response to a response to the first one by the university: "We hear your concerns about Anti-Black Racism in the school and want to assure you we take them seriously. We ask for your patience as we continue to work to respond to the people, communities and constituencies involved", read the first letter from the social work school. Cravenly mollifying, hoping against hope that the surrender to black racism disguised in an impenetrable cloak of justness would calm the situation and restore order and 'mutual respect', but it did nothing of the kind.

What it did was elicit yet another tirade on Facebook: "This disingenuous response to our open letter is just another display of the anti-Black racism perpetrated by the School of Social work and particular individuals who benefit from maintaining this system of Whiteness." Quite the zinger that, but it hasn't finished the matter by any means. Those curious about what led to this furious distance between black students and the university have been informed by the BLC: "We can appreciate wanting to know the specifics of this event", under questioning of the purpose and reason for the Facebook postings.

Earning, however, the logic-free elucidation that anyone curious about what had occurred to engender the verbal fusillades by the BLC against Algonquin were posing "problematic questioning" and as such were themselves aiding, abetting and adding "to the anti-Black racism we are confronting". Ask not what your black brothers and sisters do on your behalf oh ye underprivileged. So there, ask not what drastic malfeasance against the black community at the university so well earned its collective rage, for by so doing, it becomes evident that you are part of the white conspiracy against blacks.

"We indict the School of Social Work of perpetrating anti-Black racism through placing our Black educators in the most precarious forms of employment, through particular educators allowing Black students to experience anti-Black racism in the classroom." Cower and wilt thou guilty! Demanding to meet with a variety of deans as well as "other higher administration" prepared to make a commitment to "challenging anti-Black racism and anti-Native racism" in a way that the BLC could guide, approve and graciously deign to accept.

And not to be forgotten was the requirement that "an official apology from Henry Parada that names what he did and why he stepped down" be humbly rendered for their relishment.

Torquemada would beam with pride, extending sincere congratulations. But of course in doing so he might also be opening himself to charges of cultural exploitation and expropriation. Only his heart was black, not his skin colour.

The unaffected and bemused onlooker might surmise in his/her ignorance that Ryerson University welcomed this situation. A banner appears across its website that reads: "Anti-oppression/social transformation/social justice". And if that isn't enough, here is their values statement: "School of Social Work is a leader in critical education, research and practice with culturally and socially diverse students and communities in the advancement of anti-oppression/anti-racism, anti-Black racism, anti-colonialism/decolonization, Aboriginal reconciliation, feminism, anti-capitalism, queer and trans-liberation struggles, issues in disability and Madness, among other social justice struggles."

Gag? Some might consider this unreconstructed drivel, giving ammunition to the disaffected in society, simmering with resentment and hatred at the very reality that in the past, before civil society developed a deep conscience of regret and dismay at its former unfortunate attitudes of discrimination against minorities. Yes, people of colour among others were disgracefully felt to be inferior and treated to an inferior status within society. 

Ameliorating that situation by completely reversing the social contract to replace it with one of guaranteed equality and respect appears to have done little to appease these 'progressive', 'activist' groups. In which instance, one can be forgiven for regretting the current state of affairs, while deploring the rancid stupidity of those feeling entitled to their episodic raging accusations while they themselves practise the delights of racism-in-reverse, black-on-white.

As for Ryerson, once again, they appear to have invited and welcomed the situation that has resulted in the utter abnegation of their "core values" statement: "We acknowledge that our School is on the land of the Mississaugas of New Credit. We support the struggles of Indigenous populations, nationally and globally, for Indigenous sovereignty and their collective rights. We educate about the intersectionality and interlocking of oppressions and seek to address their causes."

"As a community of people connected to the School of Social Work we agree that we will address micro-aggression as it occurs and discuss how we might be implicated in acts of micro-aggression." Which leads naturally enough to the empowered communities thus named reacting in acts of macro- aggression.

Affront, Threaten, Sue

Now there's some news. The National Council of Canadian Muslims -- formerly CAIR-CAN (Council on American Islamic Relations (Canada) is demanding an apology from Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his spokesman Jason MacDonald for slander. A notice of libel has been filed in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice accusing Jason MacDonald of a malicious comment, injurious to the reputation of the National Council of Canadian Muslims.

What led to this unfortunate humiliation for the Muslim group was their demand that the PMO rescind its invitation to Rabbi Daniek Korobkin to join the entourage accompanying the Prime Minister on his recent trip to the Middle East, to visit Israel, the Palestinian Authority and Jordan. Rabbi Korobkin's sin was to have introduced Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer two distinguished opponents of violent Islam(ism) at a public Toronto meeting last September.

Mr. MacDonald had summarily dismissed the demand. Not necessarily saying that the government does not seek advice from any single-interest group on how it should comport itself and what its choices and values should represent, but by saying "We will not take seriously criticism from an organization with documented ties to a terrorist organization such as Hamas". Hamas, as it is well enough known is on a Canadian terror list.

Which hasn't stopped fundamentalist Islamists in Canada from flying the Hamas flag, showing posters of its leader, and making common cause with its goal, primarily the destruction of the State of Israel, along with its day-to-day activities, overseeing the lobbing of rockets into Israel from Gaza.
Mr. MacDonald's statement was so outrageously unacceptable that the National Council of Canadian Muslims took deserved umbrage. And the notice of libel is the result. As a preliminary measure.

"Rather than responding to our legitimate concerns, the PMO's director of communications attacked us and attempted to smear our name by claiming NCCM had 'documented ties to a terrorist organization such as Hamas'", grieved Ihsaan Gardee, executive director of the council, during a press conference. "Nothing could be further from the truth. NCCM will not let the PMO's false statement stand."

There was a response from the Prime Minister's Office, a rather brief and to-the-point one: "As this matter may be the subject of litigation we have no further comment." For as Nader Hassan, lawyer for the council has warned, further legal action is possible. "Whether we go through with the lawsuit is going to depend on a number of factors, namely the quality, timing and content of the public apology and retraction", he intoned.

"The defamatory words were stated maliciously in order to discredit and insult an organization that did nothing other than exercise its constitutional right to freedom of expression to criticize a decision made by the prime minister" said the libel notice. "Mr. MacDonald simply made up that statement in an effort to discredit NCCM and deflect its criticism of Mr. Harper."

As that excellent journalist Robert Sibley pointed out in an Ottawa Citizen blog, David Harris, director of the International and Terrorist Intelligence Program at INSIGNIS Strategic Research, testified in 2011 before the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology that CAIR-CAN, as the NCCM was known in its earlier incarnation as the Canadian franchise of the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations was funded by Saudi sources.

CAIR was named by the U.S. Justice Department as an unindicted co-conspirator connected to the "largest terror-funding trial in U.S. history, the Holy Land Foundation criminal prosecution." Further, CAIR-CAN leader Sheema Khan swore an affidavit in 2003 for the Ontario Supreme Court that "states categorically that CAIR-CAN is under the direction and control of the American CAIR organization."

A Quebec-based investigative group writes on their website that CAIR was established by three leaders of the Islamic Association of Palestine: Nihad Awad, Omar Ahmad and Rafeeq Jaber. The IAP was a front group for Hamas in the United States in the 80s and 90s.  A video archived by the Investigative Project on Terrorism has Nihad Awad expressing support for Hamas at Barry University in 1994. An American judge presiding the case Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development v.Ashcroft in 2002 reached the conclusion that the "Islamic Association for Palestine has acted in support of Hamas."

In his book Chasing a Mirage, Tarek Fatah points out that CAIR has been handsomely funded by Saudi Arabia, by the United Arab Emirates and by Dubai. A 2006 website of the government of the UAE stated that the "Deputy Ruler of Dubai UAE Minister of Finance and Industry has endorsed a proposal to build property in the United States to serve as an endowment for the Council on American-Islamic Relations."

NCCM is an unsavoury group of Islamists doing the bidding of the Muslim Brotherhood, its breakaway little cousin Hamas and Gulf State oil sheikdoms. They have infiltrated Canadian society, and some of its government agencies. Their agenda is to cast suspicion on Israel and any who support it, certainly inclusive of the current Conservative government.

The arrogance in which they felt entitled to 'advise' the PMO, and their subsequent threats to be carried out unless an abject apology reaches them, speaks volumes about their misplaced sense of their influence within Canada.

Free To Claim Your Property As Mine

"That man" to whom Jocelyne Malouf refers, still has not faced the charge of violence committed against her, as landlady to Andreas Pirelli. He stands accused of pushing her down a flight of stairs in 2007 in Montreal. She suffered a broken pelvis, arm, wrist and ankle. After which he picked her up and threw her out on the street. When an arrest warrant was issued it was because he had failed to turn up to attend his assault trial. She would understandably like to see justice done.

She had given the man a five-month rent-free accommodation as a house-sitter. The house occupant happened to be out of the country. When she asked the man known as Andreas Pirelli/Mario Antonacci, to vacate the property after the five months had elapsed, he claimed the property represented an embassy. Informing her it was his intention to keep it, with no need to pay anything for that privilege.

He is a "Freeman'. A 'sovereign citizen', who went on to claim a Calgary rental property as his 'embassy'. Rebekah Caverhill rented her duplex to Mr. Pirelli in 2011, at the recommendation of a friend. At the time he promised to fix up the place, and she would give him a few months of free rent in exchange. Once he declared himself a follower of the Freemen-on-the-Land movement, though, she was divested of her property.

He changed the locks and placed a lien on the home, his embassy: "The First Nations Sovran Embassy of Earth". She was unable to remove him; he implacably stated it was his property, not hers, and she had no recourse to restoring it to her possession; a higher power had removed it from her and handed it to him. Until Calgary police involved themselves and arrested Andreas Pirelli.


In recognition as well of several outstanding warrants issued by courts in Quebec for his detention. "It went relatively smoothly. They were able to make contact with that individual and they took him into custody without incident", explained Calgary police Insp. Darrell Hesse.

When the Canadian Press sought comments, Mr. Pirelli warned he has trademark claims on the name "Andreas Pirelli", "Mario Antonacci", and "The Fist Nations Sovran Embassy of Earth."

The fee for each use of each name would be $1-million.

Letting Kids Be Kids

Teen-age girls love being together in social situations. Talking excitedly together, shopping excursions, sleepovers, just having fun. A 13-year-old girl in Ottawa was exposed to more fun of a variety that might never otherwise have entered her mind when she accepted an invitation to a sleepover at the home of girls whom she didn't know all that well. She would, over a short period of time, get to know them much, much better.

And that started with the initial event of the sleepover. When, she recounted, she was forced to change her clothing and put on a skimpy white dress. And when she obediently and perhaps fearfully did that, she was informed "you're going to have sex tonight". That was in June 2012. The people who forced and threatened her were not pimply, gangly-limbed young men looking to make some money pimping. They were two 15-year-old girls.

When a 13-year-old suddenly finds that girls several years older are being friendly to her and make overtures toward her, she likely feels very flattered. The 15-year-olds stuck the 13-year-old, suitably attired to tempt older men with the potential for a sexual encounter, into an underground cab; presumably one operating without a licence in Ottawa. One sat beside her on the back seat and slapped her in the face when she refused to cooperate.

That didn't stop them from taking her to an apartment. Where an "old", balding man in a neighbourhood she was unfamiliar with, lived. She was delivered to his apartment and he locked her into a bedroom. The while the two teen girls of 15 waited outside. "That's when he told me to go on the other side of the room", the young girl testified.

She wasn't touched by the "old", balding man who instead informed her that the two 15-year-olds had previously brought young girls to him against their will. When 20 to 30 minutes had passed, the girl and the man exited the bedroom, and both claimed they'd had sex, and money changed hands. The two older girls were arrested and charged with human trafficking in June of 2012.

Now on trial accused of threatening, beating and blackmailing other girls. Whom they would give alcohol or narcotic pills to, to have them lose consciousness so they could be disrobed and photographs taken of them for pornographic purposes. The photos were also used as blackmail, to force the young girls to agree to sell their bodies for sex, handing over to them the money that was exchanged for that service.

The 13-year-old described being drugged after she left the man's apartment. She claimed to have had a headache, whereupon one of the older girls pushed a pill into her mouth. "She checked my whole mouth to make sure I took it. I was really confused", she said. Told the pill was an Advil, only to discover later it was an ecstasy pill, whose effect was to make her vomit.

The girl's mother had testified earlier how frantic she had been, trying to find out where her daughter was. She was texting and calling her daughter through the cellphone of her daughter's friend, until finally her daughter showed up at the door. Wearing a dress the mother had never before seen, stiletto heels and a trench coat. "What the hell is going on?", she asked angrily.

As her daughter wobbled against a wall she responded by saying to her mother: "Why didn't you come get me?" The mother had received responses to her anxious texts received through the friend's cellphone. One of which read "Why are you treating me like a baby?", by the very same girl who had been forcing her 13-year-old daughter to perform degrading and dangerous acts.

When the mother saw the bruises and marks on her daughter's body she wanted to call the police. Her daughter begged her not to. "They're going to kill me", the girl said in genuine fear. "I didn't know if my daughter had been sexually assaulted at that point", the mother testified, speaking of the time she called police, asking to speak with a female officer.

Civilizational Clashes

An interesting, and actually irrefutable opinion. With perhaps one qualifier. The gross intolerance of the faithful of Islam who embrace their version of Islam and none other, claiming Ismailis and Ahmaddiya, for example, to be despicable heretics deserving of slaughter for disgracing Islam typifies the Wahhabist and Salafist brand of unforgiving Islamism. That being said, it is debatable how much of a "civilization" as far as civilizing humanity goes, can really apply here other than as a veneer.

It is partially the heritage of the Middle East -- the Bedouin who were and continue to be desert-dwellers who adopted a religion foisted upon them by violent conquest unseating their original desert deities, that was specifically tailored to fit the dimensions of their limited world view of human affairs -- inscribed in the suspicion and ready combativeness for territory and assets that inform tribal communities that describe the problem.

That territorial imperative driven by the most basic instincts of human survival has been tardily overlaid with a facade of civility toward others not of their clan, their tribe, their religion. The traditional scarcity of resources ensured that tribes would always view one another as competitors in the struggle for existence. That modernity has made resources more readily available doesn't appear to have made much of a dent in the consciousness and humanity of people derived from Bedouin culture.

The interference by more advanced societies whose technologies and wealth allowed them to enter the Middle East in a rapacious rush to take advantage of its natural resources, becoming overseers after the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire and the end of World War I, when the geographic spoils were administered by European powers deciding imperiously to construct borders and grant new countries and empower new tyrants loyal to the West has served to complicate already existing trials.

More latterly, the competing interests spawned by Middle East fossil fuels so readily accessible and so abundantly available, continued the oppression of the masses living their poverty-vulnerable, religion-inspired lives of humble acquiescence. Dictators and tyrants give scant quarter to those living under their controlling fists, after all. And it can be said for those dictators and tyrants that they preferred submission to their rule, echoing Islamic precepts, taking care to separate the sects hindering them from mutual outrage.

And so because they had little choice, they lived together as amicably as possible, understanding in their tribulations as underdogs that their neighbour whatever his version of Islam lived under the same sorry strictures of oppression and degradation. Liberated from the control of a strict rule and with the creeping message of fundamentalist Islam flooding their minds like a mass vaccination, they see their rival sects in a new, damning light and condemn and attack where they once accepted.

Now more than ever before the two major sects, Sunni and Shia struggle for the advantage. Their paranoia is transformed into a mass psychosis of blinding hatred for one another, mitigated from time to time for their hatred of the Christian sects and Jews who still remain among them with whom they also lived in peace before Islam became so intolerantly imperious and impervious to reasonable pluralistic acceptance.

Now the restive populations of Iran, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tunisia, Somalia, Mali, Sudan, Algeria, Libya, Lebanon and the Palestinian Territories are infused with blind hatred for political factions, tribal affiliations, religious sects and cultural deviations not wholly reflective of their own. And all claim to be faithful to Islam, a religion they fondly speak of as one of peace and brotherhood.

The common enemy has become the West, and most particularly the United States. Whose penchant for intervention in attempts to stifle conflicts and in the process producing even more overheated bloody assaults upon one another even as they attempt to foist terror on symbols of the Great Satan to some success and even more failures, remains unabated. Jihadists boast of their love of death and their scorn of those who fear death.

For death reunites them with the glorious predecessors whose venerated names give credence and glory to Islam. And their rewards for fulfilling their sacred duties to Islam as martyrs in the great cause of violent proselytizing are adoring virgins to embroider their spiritual lives everlasting.

Yet another human construct incapable of surmounting human fallibility.

A series of co-ordinated bombings in the Iraqi capital Baghdad has killed more than 50 people and wounded dozens more, police and medical sources say.

The bombs targeted mainly Shia neighbourhoods during the rush hour.
The deadliest explosion was reported to be in Jisr Diyala in south-eastern Baghdad, where a car bomb killed at least seven people.

Violence has increased in Iraq in recent months amid heightened tensions between Sunni and Shia Muslims.

Several blasts in the northern district of Kadhimiya killed at least five people and wounded many others, according to reports. The northern suburb of Sadr City was also attacked.

At least 10 separate bombings are believed to have taken place on Wednesday. More than 160 people were injured.

No group has admitted carrying out the bombings, but correspondents say they appear to have been carried out by Sunni militants.

Sunnis say they are being marginalised by Prime Minister Nouri Maliki's Shia-led government.
Correspondents say deep-rooted sectarian tensions have also been aggravated by the civil war in neighbouring Syria.

 

 

More than 4,000 civilians have been killed and 10,000 more have been wounded so far this year, with Baghdad province worst hit.

Casualty figures released by the United Nations showed 1,057 Iraqis - most of them civilians - were killed in July, making it the deadliest month in the country for years.

The authorities have stepped up security operations in Baghdad, according to BBC World Service Middle East editor Sebastian Usher. But they seem unable to stop the growing intensity of violence now back to a level not seen for five years, he says.

Barely a day goes by in Iraq now without similar bloodshed, our correspondent adds.

Criminal Exploitation of Women and Girls

 " It is in many ways big business for gangs or organized crime. Studies show traffickers in Canada can receive an annual financial gain of $250,000 for each woman or girl they've trafficked or sexually exploited.
"Many members of the Canadian public are unaware of how serious and significant the issue of trafficking of women and girls is here in Canada."

Society is concerned, and most certainly has delivered its opinion to the federal government that the issue must be investigated, a solution found to the plight of aboriginal women, abused, missing, found murdered in numbers far outweighing their demographic presence within Canadian society.

Public Safety Canada has now launched research into trends and issues in the trafficking of aboriginal women and girls, on the basis of previous studies which conclude that the involvement of both criminal organizations and the women's own family members represents a trend that "appears to be a significant complicating factor" in their exploitation.

The research to be undertaken will include discussions with those figures providing services to trafficked aboriginal women and girls, the vulnerable communities from which they come, along with those who have undertaken studies of the issue, and investigators or those prosecuting crimes involving trafficked female aboriginals.

The researchers have been instructed to describe the extent and those situations where family members are involved in the victimization of their female relatives. To clarify the relationship between human trafficking and domestic violence.

The study results are meant to outline the manner in which gangs and criminal organizations are involved. That family members are indeed involved in the trafficking of their own relatives within the country is agreed upon among experts, citing previous validated studies. Michele Audette, president of the Native Women's Association of Canada based in Ottawa, recounted narratives heard from aboriginal parents themselves who have sold their own children for casual sex, to enable them to pay for their addictions.

"I listened to some families where, because of their addiction to drugs and drinking, every two weeks they were trafficking their own children. I was so shocked. It's a small number, but it's there. Because of that, we cannot stay quiet or deny this reality doesn't exist in our First Nations communities." A national task force on sex trafficking of girls and young women in Canada funded by The Canadian Women's Foundation has interviewed over 150 organizations, spoken with female survivors of sex trafficking.

Gangs and organized crime "are definitely at the helm of this enormous and serious issue that's happening right here in Canada. We haven't seen that there is an epidemic of families trafficking their daughters in Canada", said Sandra Diaz, member of the task force's team looking toward evaluating the results  of the Public Safety research , "to get a sense of how big a percentage that is. There's an enormous need for more research. We don't have data. It doesn't exist in a way that is comprehensive and deep. So any research is good research."

It isn't, needless to say, only aboriginal women and girls who are jobbed out in this horrendously demeaning, de-humanizingly-abusive manner. Others within Canadian society become victims of the same atrocious fate. "One of the saddest cases I have seen was a young boy who was trafficked by his dad across Canada when he was eight years old for sexual services. The dad serviced his addictions from that", said Joy Smith, Manitoba MP who has worked on the human trafficking issue for over a decade.

When Anette Sikka, a 2009 L.D candidate at University of Ottawa undertook a study of the trafficking in aboriginal women and girls in Canada, participants in her research explained that many girls' entry to the sex trade was facilitated through familial or peer relationships. They "spoke of sisters coercing or forcing younger siblings into the sex trade to make money", she explained. "Many older women are unable to survive through their sex trade earnings, and thus engage younger family members into the trade."
