Canada: Girding Ourselves For More of the Disastrous Same

These were the positions directly impacting Canada's relations with the State of Israel following the Palestinian Hamas terror group's invasion of Israel on 7 October 2023, stated almost two years later by the competing political parties in Canada during the election campaign that culminated in the vote on April 28, 2025 that resulted in a fourth term of government office for the Liberal party. A Canadian vote that relegated the NDP to 'observer' status in the House of Commons when the vote count left it decimated and without official party status.

 

The only political party in Canada that defended the security and equality of Canadian Jews -- in a country so infiltrated by Palestinian and Muslim immigration, refugees and migrants that the country's Jewish population status has been violated by mobs of Hamas-sympathizing, Israel-hating, Jewish-demonizing rioters allowed to commit criminal offences that would never be tolerated by any level of government other than for Muslim groups, toward whom any criticism is immediately labeled 'Islamophobic' -- has been the Conservative party. 

 

To the great disappointment of the over four million Canadian voters that placed their trust in the Conservative party led by Pierre Poilievre, the Liberal party once again prevailed, to form a fourth consecutive government. To continue its ruinous governance of a once-great nation that has for the past ten years of government incompetence descended into economic insecurity, insufferable population density through runaway immigration policies, crime-ridden streets, identity politics leading to group alienation, provincial inequities, a faltering health-care system, and a housing crisis.

 

 

 

The platform of this 'new' Liberal government will be administered by the 'old' Cabinet minus the previous failed prime minister, which rubber-stamped every nation-crumbling initiative undertaken by the Justin Trudeau Liberal government. Where the green agenda of the previous Liberal government will now be resurrected on steroids by the new Liberal government, alienating Western Canada in its insistence that natural resources such as energy extraction will continue to be blocked, pipelines west-to-east, and exports abroad will be truncated, despite election promises to the contrary.

 

Crime in Canada has surged in the past decade under Liberal rule with dipping incarceration rates and a trend of rising crime. Asylum claims with foreign nationals requesting entry to Canada as refugees are surging, an increase of 1,700 percent from 2015 to 2025. Health care in Canada has been abysmal, with thousands of Canadians dying thanks to an incapacity in the health system for timely treatment; people dying while on wait lists for medical procedures necessary to sustain life.

 

Canada is drowning under a tsunami of national debt. The total sovereign debt stands at $1.4 trillion dollars. New debt has piled up since 2015 at a rate that eclipses anything in Canada's past. The federal public service, while delivering less service to the public than ever before, swelled to 367,722 from the 2015 total of 257,034 employees, a 43 percent increase. The recruitment crisis in the Canadian military has resulted in half of the military's ships, aircraft and vehicles are unusable, due to insufficient personnel to maintain them.

 

Runaway immigration has given us a population of 41.5 million, substantially increased from 2015's 34.8 million. Leading to critical shortages of doctors and adequate housing, while straining all public social services. Canada has one of the lowest birthrates in the world, 1.25 children per woman, similar to that of South Korea, Spain, Italy and Japan. Life expectancy in Canada has diminished; where the trend up to 2015 was longer lifespans, the past ten years has seen a reversal. 

 

Canadian per capita wages over the last ten years have fallen. The per capita GDP in 2015 was $43,594 according to the World Bank. In the last ten years the per capita GDP has stagnated; as of 2023 it was $44,468. Ten long, weary, disruptive, disappointing, disorienting years of Liberal governance has given Canada a faltering economy, a worsening of crime, pathetic public services, poor affordability levels, refugee backlogs and identity politics. And here we are, starting in on another four years of the same.

Canada's spanking new 24th Prime Minister has occasioned a spurt of commentary from British pundits, warning Canada that it has acquired a leader of questionable merit -- for however brief a period of time, if a soon-to-be-announced federal election cuts his honeymoon short -- that the man just elected as the governing Liberal Party head following the resignation of former PM Justin Trudeau has a somewhat unsavoury history linked to his last public-sector job as Governor of the Bank of England.

 

Memories in Britain are not that short that they cannot conjure up the recent past when Carney was Governor of the Bank of England between 2013 and 2020, a period distinguished by a notable decline in growth, living standards and general productivity. One article in The Telegraph made reference to Carney as the "high priest of Project Fear", referring to his role in the 2016 anti-Brexit campaign. Marvelling that Carney appears to have "charmed Canadians" and "is now the figure most trusted by his countrymen to stand up to (U.S. President Donald) Trump."

 

In 2018 the pro-Brexit Conservative politician Jacob Rees-Mogg spoke of Carney as a "second-tier Canadian politician" who "got a job in the U.K." after "having failed" at Canadian politics. Having never held elected office, Carney became the Governor of the Bank of Canada during the financial crisis of 2008 under the then-Conservative government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper. He chose to cut his 7-year term short in 2013 to accept the Bank of England top job.

 

The Spectator U.K. magazine drew parallels between Carney's Brexit prophecies, his uber-concerning warning about climate change and his more recent warning relating to the economic threat Canada is facing under Trump. "Canadians should be aware that fear is possibly the most-used wrench in their new prime minister's tool box", columnist Jane Stannus wrote.

Dissatisfied with Green Party Leader Anamie Paul's diplomatically political statement referencing the conflict between Hamas in Gaza, lobbing over four thousand missiles at civilian targets in Israel, and the Israel Defence Forces' bombing raids in Gaza pinpoint-targeting Hamas-owned targets, the newly-elected leader Ms.Paul, spoke of restraint on both sides to avoid further casualties. In essence, equating both adversaries as equals, bypassing the reality of Hamas as a terrorist group, outlawed in many countries, including Canada.

But even that non-accusatory statement failing to acknowledge the cause of the conflict and the entirely defensive response to the war-crimes-level action of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Gaza, infuriated Jenica Atwin, who slammed her party's leader for not outright condemning Israel for defending itself. Atwin's statements condemning Israel, and supporting 'the Palestinian cause' has not changed; she reaffirmed her contention that Israel is an 'Apartheid' state, irrespective of the fact that 20 percent of Israelis are Arab Palestinian citizens, and no Jews are permitted to live in a 'Palestinian State' by diktat.

Citing the failure of her leader to condemn Israel, Ms. Atwin announced her decision to cross the floor and join the Liberal Party of Canada, which welcomed her with open arms -- after having conducted lengthy discussions over her leaving the Green Party for the Liberals far in advance of her controversial anti-Semitic statements. Anamie Paul was elected to lead the Green Party by a wide margin of votes and she is recognized as the first Black, Jewish leader of any Canadian political party, even a tiny, struggling one like the Greens whose focus is mostly environmental.

In crossing to the Liberals to great fanfare, Ms.Atwin retracted the heat of her words; they were quite simply misunderstood; that old 'taken out of context' conundrum. So misunderstood that listeners/readers of what she wrote and said totally failed to understand that her words were intended to "send strength and love" to people she recognized requiring support. So Jews in her New Brunswick riding and throughout the country who vote Liberal are to feel love, courtesy of Ms.Atwin despite the venom of her sentiments.

Israelis are also suffering as well as their loved ones in Canada and around the world", the new, amended statement emphasized, encouraged without doubt by the Liberal Party apparatus to fall more in line with the more opaque position of the Liberals and Prime Minister Trudeau on the matter of Israel and Jewish sensibilities. "No one wins with war. I regret if my choice of words caused harm to those who are suffering."

 In point of fact, this woman's clear and consistent defamation of Israel has not changed; she re-emphasized on a later interview opportunity that she would not disavow her statement of Israel as an Apartheid state, despite that it clangs deafeningly with the official line of the Liberals who much prefer discreet rather than brash statements that require explication to offended voters. 

Until fairly recently, Canadian Jews who have a natural tendency to identify with liberalism and thus are generally supporters of the Liberal Party, could be assured that Canada would always view Israel as a fellow democracy with values similar to Canada's own. Under the new Liberal administration headed by Justin Trudeau that assurance no longer has currency. This is a prime minister who enjoys apologizing for past wrongs in Canadian history, a man whose sensitivities and assurances are beyond shallow.

 

Which had him apologizing for the rejection by the government of Canada of the plea in 1939 that the MS St.Louis carrying 900 German Jews desperately attempting to flee Nazi Germany, be accepted as refugees. Like all other countries that refused them, Canada, their last resort, did likewise, the ship forced to return to Europe where the passengers faced their deadly fate. Yet when the official opening of the Holocaust Museum in Ottawa took place to great fanfare nowhere to be seen in the dedication plaques or heard in the speeches, any mention that the victims of Nazi genocide were Jews.

 

The previous government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper made it clear both to Canadians and to Israel that Canada stood in solid support of Israel's right to exist, denied it by Arab Palestinians in their insuperable demands. The position of the Liberals under Justin Trudeau is more 'nuanced', so much so that it saw fit to vote against Israel on several United Nations resolutions, geared as always to elevate the Palestinian 'cause' and denigrate the Israeli reality.

 

With the understanding that UNRWA, the UN refugee body dedicated to the welfare of Palestinian 'refugees' works in quiet tandem with Hamas, and that UNRWA school texts are rife with anti-Semitism and anti-Israel propaganda, the Conservative government cut off funding to the body. With the very same knowledge available to the Liberal government, funding for UNRWA was restored, even though it is also well known that Hamas runs UNRWA in Gaza, and the funding is funnelled through to Hamas.

 

That Justin Trudeau and his Liberal apparatus has wooed and welcomed into the party a blatant anti-Semite as a new Liberal Member of Parliament, bringing with her coveted votes from New Brunswick for the Liberal Party, speaks volumes of the new left-progressive values of this government. Whose judgement and principles have long been in doubt in so many areas of governance; carrying on the tradition of the Liberal Party of Canada's susceptibility to corruption, and outdoing its predecessors on every imaginable file, from currying favour with Quebec, and the same with China, neither of which have the best interests of Canada in mind.

Canada's Liberal Government's Love Affair with China

"The [opposition] Conservatives are calling on the Liberal government to stop making payments to the Asian Infrastructure Bank in light of the ongoing detention and lack of transparency around the trials of Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor in China. The party's foreign affairs critic says it's unacceptable that Canada would send about $40 million to the China-led agency."

"Michael Chong says the Liberal government should use all of the tools at its disposal, including withholding the payment, to put pressure on Chinese authorities to stop the trials of the two Michaels and to release them."

"Global Affairs Canada [Department of Foreign Affairs] and Finance Canada have not responded to several requests for information on whether the payment that's due this month has been made and whether Ottawa will withhold the payment."

Canada's relations with China are in the diplomatic dungeon. And two innocent Canadian citizens who just happened to be in China and thus vulnerable to abduction by Chinese authorities are now languishing in a Beijing dungeon, and have been for over two years. This is called 'hostage diplomacy' originating in China for the express purpose of placing other countries on notice that China will not be trifled with; should any country attempt to hold Chinese nationals to face justice for wrongdoing, China will exact its revenge.

Australia is suffering a different kind of destructive diplomacy which the Chinese Communist Party brought to bear to teach the Australian government that in holding China to account for its questionable role in failing to halt the spread of the novel coronavirus that first surfaced in Wuhan, China, there are consequences to be paid. Beijing exacted consequences on Australian wine, coal, agricultural products striking a blow against accountability for the more important purpose of bringing Australia to heel. It failed.

 

But Canada is eager to do the bidding of China, even at a dread cost, because the Liberal Party of Canada believes there is no greater benefit than aspiring to trade with the trade-and-production behemoth. Official Canada in the guise of the Liberal party in power cannot abase itself too much to satisfy Beijing. Covertly. Since the Canadian public has a very low opinion of China's tactics, from interfering in Canadian affairs to infiltrating government and business, to threatening Chinese-Canadians who fail to genuflect to Beijing, to abducting Canadian citizens.

 

This kind of hostage diplomacy is by no means confined only to Canada. In Canada's case it was inspired by the arrest on a U.S. warrant of Huawei Technologies' chief financial officer. An act that Beijing seethes is contrary to international law. Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig, the two abducted Canadian citizens accused of 'espionage' were put on trial in the past week; separate closed trials at which no Canadian diplomatic presence was permitted. Their verdicts are yet to be announced.

Huawei is vying for involvement in setting up Canada's 5G network. As a member of the Five Eyes intelligence network comprised of Great Britain, the United States, Australia and New Zealand, all of whom have refused Huawei entrance to their 5G upgrades, Canada still has not made a decision, imperilling its position within the Five Eyes, averse to Chinese involvement for obvious reasons of surveillance and espionage at which China is so superbly skilled and experienced.

 

During the trial of  Michael Kovrig on March 22, Canada was supported by the presence outside the courthouse of 26 diplomats from allied Western countries. Shortly afterward Canada joined its allies in sanctions against Chinese officials suspected of involvement in persecution of Uyghurs, the Muslim minority living in Xinjiang province. Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs alerted other countries of risks to their nationals in being detained by China should they have 'disagreements' with the CCP. 

Behind the scenes, covertly, three is a powerful high level lobby group, the Canada China Business Council that is planning to escort its members on a trip to the Chinese cities of Nanjing and Hangzhou on March 24. The CCBC board of directors represents Canada's power elite, its chair is Olivier Desmarais, senior vice-president of Power Corporation of Canada, of the billionaire Desmarais family. Former Prime Minister Jean Chretien, who while prime minister, led a number of business delegations to China, is his grandfather.

There will be involvement in the event by officials from the Shanghai Canadian Consulate along with Chinese government officials. Another partner for the event is CanExports Associations, a grant program under the authority of Global Affairs Canada. This follows on the commitment by the government of Justin Trudeau to fully engage commercially with China. A move expedited when Trudeau chose Dominic Barton as Canada's Ambassador to China, a man with ample experience and connections in China.

He was, in fact, managing director of a global consulting giant. Aside from which he personally has close commercial and financial interests in China. His appointment in September of 2019, not because he is a career diplomat, but because of his extensive insider contacts in China, sent the message to China that Canada values and gives high priority to a prized commercial relationship between the two countries. A relationship that trumps any other issues, inconsequential by comparison.

The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board investing taxpayers' money as a Crown corporation, has $56 billion representing 12 percent of their total investments, in China. That would include investments in companies with known links to human rights abuses. So, while condemning Beijing for its human rights abuses against Tibetans and Uyghurs and Christians in China; in particular what Canadian Members of Parliament just two weeks ago passed a resolution for, condemning Chinese 'genocide' against Muslim Uyghurs, official Canada gives its support to what it accuses China of.

Leaving China to understand, wink-wink, that despite the external noise that is so irritating to Beijing, it's business as usual, with Canada. Even though Beijing decided to withhold from Canada agreed-upon shipments of the CanSino vaccine that Canadian technology helped to develop, leaving the Canadian health care system void of desperately-needed vaccines. Another ill-judged, inept and ultimately life-destructive decision, courtesy of Justin Trudeau's love affair with China.

According to Hassan Guillet himself, the imam who was expecting the Liberal Party of Canada to rubber-stamp his nomination to run in a traditionally Italian Montreal riding but which is now home to as many Muslims as Italians, he is confused and disappointed to have been informed the very day he anticipated the nomination to be finalized, that the Liberal party had no intention now of having him run to represent the party in the riding.

He insists the principals in the Liberal party tasked with oversight on nominations were well aware of social media posts under his name, which have turned out to be rather controversial. He had met officials with the federal Liberal party in early August, when a discussion of the posts took place with the Liberals reassuring him that they believed he was neither racist nor anti-Semitic. However, once B'nai Brith alerted the Liberals in early September to the presence of the posts, the last one of which had been posted in 2017, action was taken to disown Imam Guillet.

He was given an hour, he stated, to chose which avenue he would prefer; to resign for personal reasons, or to be removed by the party, as one of their candidates for the upcoming October federal election. As far as Imam Guillet is concerned, his public posts were accessible and a background check would have revealed their presence. Still, he had been approached in 2017 by the Liberal party to consider representing the riding as a Liberal candidate.

 In July of 2017 the release from prison of Raed Salah, a Hamas-linked militant was 'welcomed' by Imam Guillet, congratulating Salah on his being freed from a "prison of occupied Palestine", and he prayed that one day he would succeed in liberating "all of Palestine", describing Salah as a "resistance fighter", and a "jihadist". He repeated the ancient blood libel that Jews used the blood of gentile children to make Passover matzoh.

"Zionists", he claimed, controlled American foreign policy. When this issue was first reported in mainstream news media all these details were referred to as "alleged" issues. The clear slant toward anti-Semitism was characterized as "insensitive" by the commenting Liberal party. Which isn't as strange as it might seem under this administration; unlike the previous Conservative-led government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, when Canada was officially a firm supporter of Israel's right of existence.

B'nai Brith launched a campaign against the nominated candidacy for the October federal election, of a Montreal-based imam, Hassan  Guillet, a Lebanese by birth who had emigrated to Canada in 1974, and who had made a celebrated eulogy at the funeral of three of the Muslim men who had died after a deadly attack in a Quebec City mosque where in 2017 six people were killed and 19 other worshippers were wounded when a man opened fire at the mosque where 57 people were present. 

The human rights lobby group's overtures to the Liberal Party of Canada succeeded in the Liberal Party revoking Mr. Guillet's candidacy for the Montreal riding he wished to represent. It was historically a riding represented by Italian Members of Parliament, reflecting their majority numbers in the riding. 

Of more recent vintage, a demographic change has taken place where, Mr. Guillet claimed that Muslims now represent as many of the riding population as do Italians. He claimed to be able to speak Italian, and that he would represent the interests of all those in the riding. Perhaps not all, if others living there happened to be Jews however, since his fairly acid remarks on Jews and Israel could fairly be ascribed to an anti-Semitic attitude.

"Anti-Semitism is unfortunately all too real in Canada and threatens the safety and security of Jewish-Canadians. As political leaders, we need to speak out and condemn it at every opportunity", responded the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, Andrew Scheer. Under the previous Conservative-led government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper it was not a matter of debate whether Canada was a friend of Israel and was dedicated to protecting Canada's Jewish population from discriminatory hatred.

"Following a thorough internal review process that has been ongoing for a few weeks, the Liberal Party of Canada has made the decision to revoke the candidacy of Mr. Guillet for the riding of Saint-Leonard -Saint-Michel in this fall's election."

In fact, the Liberal Party in a statement issued for the media and public consumption said:
"The insensitive comments made by Hassan Guillet are not aligned with the values of the Liberal Party of Canada", which is in and of itself rather remarkable. 

An imam who has put himself on record through his statements on social media platforms as totally inimical to the survival of a Jewish State in the hope that 'Palestine' would be 'returned' in its entirety to the Palestinians, and who spoke admiringly of 'jihad' as well as repeating an ancient blood-libel against Judaism, is viewed as 'insensitive' by the Liberals.

These utterly repellent and alarmingly, distinctly anti-Semitic sentiments freely expressed have no place in a civilized, democratic country that guarantees equality and respect to all its citizens. 

That this man could be under the radar but yet his comments detected and known by the Liberal Party of Canada whose nominations committee was mulling over their next step; whether to remove or to simply sit on it in the hopes that no one would notice, and then taking action when it was brought to public attention that a potential Montreal Member of Parliament under the Liberal banner is yet another undercover Islamist should surprise no one.

But it does. And it is gut-wrenchingly disappointing.

Resolution, M-103, introduced in Parliament by Liberal MP Iqra Khalid, whose purpose is to seek unanimity in condemning "Islamophobia," hasn't had the smooth ride to general agreement the ruling Liberals have agitated for. The Conservative Party of Canada attempted to reword the motion, removing "Islamophobia" and making the motion more generalized to focus on all religions facing phobic attacks, but was unsuccessful because the Liberals refused to delete the word specific to the idea that Islam is under attack.

It's a strange thing, this idea of the West walking on tenterhooks of empathy for a religion that goes out of its way to alienate other religions, to present itself as exceptional and the only monotheistic religion that the higher power itself has manifestly credited as the finished version of the spirit's instructions to humanity. So strange that one should take heed of the fact that Egypt's Al-Azhar university, Islam's most venerated and authoritative, refuses to condemn Islamic State despite its well-known atrocities committed in the name of Islamic jihad.

In fact, Al-Azhar University's curriculum "allows for killing a Muslim who does not pray, one who leaves Islam, prisoners and infidels within Islam [those who do not have a clearly specified creed or sect]. [It also allows] gouging their eyes and chopping off their hands and feet, as well as banning the construction of churches and discriminating between Muslims and Ahl al-Kitab [Christians and Jews], and insulting them at times." Peculiar practise for a religion whose faithful protest that it is a religion of peace and brotherhood.

However, in Canada, provincial MPP Nathalie Des Rosiers last month introduced a similar motion tabled in the Ontario provincial legislature, and it was passed, demanding that  lawmakers condemn  "all forms of Islamophobia" and reaffirm "support for government efforts, through the Anti-Racism Directorate, to address and prevent systemic racism across government policy, programs and services". Those who have no love of these motions point out, fruitlessly that no similar motions condemning "Judeophobia" or "Christianophobia" have been put forward.

Christians in their ancient homelands throughout the Middle East are systematically, institutionally harassed and persecuted, forbidden in Saudi Arabia to practise their religion. Churches have been firebombed, parishioners have been threatened, attacked and killed throughout the region, and no new churches are permitted to be built. Most Arab countries have exiled all the Jews that lived there for thousands of years after the creation of the State of Israel, denying that Jews ever had a historical presence in the Middle East. Christians have been leaving the geography in record numbers.

But Arabs, fleeing sectarian conflict and murderous regimes to become refugees seeking haven abroad in the West are welcomed with open arms. Those nations that welcome them prefer to close their eyes to the very real fact that Islam is incompatible with Western democracy, and the Koran and the hadiths instruct the faithful in Islam that sharia law takes precedence over any existing system of justice where they seek haven. Islam, in fact, acts as a clear deterrent in its firm control over all aspects of life for Muslims, to their integrating into the social, legal and political fabric of a non-Muslim country.

Even though the Islamic world practices all manner of restrictions that reflect bigotry leading to the killing of apostates and homosexuals, where anti-Semitism not only thrives but is driven by Islamic scriptures and violence against women, female genital mutilation, child marriage, stoning, amputation, crucifixions, beheadings are recognized state methods of capital punishment, one must not breathe a hint of criticism against Islam. To state the obvious, Islamic authorities, driven by the public relations instruments of the Muslim Brotherhood, uses Western sensibilities to promote the notion of "Islamophobia".

The claims by Muslims that "Islamophobia" has run rampant throughout Western society and is instrumental in making life miserable for Muslims wanting only to live in peace and security, and that the obligation of Western societies is to restrain and restrict any and all expressions of doubt that Islam is the fount of peace that it claims to be, has met with resounding success. The liberal and left bent to accept at face value the claims of "Islamophobia" inciting to violence and intimidating Muslims, despite the reality of sharia law supporting violence against women and Muslim supremacy
supports the Islamist agenda.

Meanwhile, Jewish communities across Europe and North America are beset with a wave of anti-Semitism fuelled in large part by the presence of those very refugees from the Middle East and North Africa who have been taught from an early age through Islamic instruction and repeated endlessly in mosque sermons to hate Jews and to express that hatred often and with atrocious intent. The problem is also that anti-Semitism is pervasive throughout many societies so the tinder is there to be fired up by incitement to violence against Jews through the claims that Israel persecutes Palestinians.

Justifying hatred of Jews through expressions of denouncement of an "Apartheid" state is a specialty of Muslims, one that the liberal left takes up with enthusiasm, explaining that to do so is not to be confused with anti-Semitism, even while Jewish students are hounded out of universities for the sin of supporting Zionism, a return of Jews to the land where they historically arose. In the United States, over 120 threats against Jewish organizations in three dozen states in this new year, have surfaced relentlessly.

Vandalism has taken place at Jewish cemeteries, stunning and frightening the Jewish populations seeing themselves once again a target of hatred. In Canada, Jewish community centres in Toronto and London, Ontario received bomb threats. Threats were made against Jewish centres in New York, Oregon, Wisconsin, Illinois, Florida and Maryland. The kind of vicious slander and threats that have being commonplace in Britain, France, Germany, Sweden, Norway and elsewhere with the influx of Muslims has spread its venom everywhere.

Yet it is the Muslim communities who quiver and plead for the larger communities within which they live to condemn "Islamophobia", even while Islamist jihad unmercifully and without remorse slaughters sectarian rivals in Islam, and targets ethnic and religious minorities like Kurds and Yazidis for extermination. A government like Syria can once again mount a destructive campaign of blood-letting in vengeance against Sunni Syrians protesting that their Shiite government has for too long dispossessed them, while the world looks on.

Islamophobia? The surprise would be if no one took exception to the dysfunction of a religion claiming to focus on peace while inciting its faithful to exercise their duty to jihad.

Chasing a Ghost

The problems with the Super Hornet are so grave, so dangerous to the pilots flying them, one might think the new government of Canada under the Liberals would take heed and turn away from their plan to bypass the superior fighter jet produced by Lockheed Martin, to ensure that the country has a reliable and technologically updated machine for its air force.

Simply put, the onboard oxygen system of the Super Hornets doesn't pass the vital test of providing a pilot-safe fighter jet, a situation that the U.S. is struggling with in view of the number of American pilots reporting serious oxygen problems while flying those planes. These are the fighter jets the Liberal government is inclined to commit to, bypassing the CF-35 advanced fighter jet that most other NATO countries have chosen.

The point is that Canada too chose the CF-35 as the superior model whose technology addressed the needs of modern warfare. The sticking point was price, but as more countries came on board ordering their own numbers as needed, prices declined to the point where they are now comparable with the much inferior Super Hornet. But it is because the former Conservative-led government chose the CF-35 that the Liberals balk now at completing the deal.

This is what is called 'cutting off your nose to spite your face', and it exemplifies the overall attitude of the Justin Trudeau government in its juvenile rejection of anything initiated by the Conservatives. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claimed the CF-35 "does not work"; choosing instead to bypass a competition for new jets and go with the Super Hornets.

This is the plane whose dysfunction led a U.S. congressional subcommittee to raise the issue of dozens of "physiological episodes", with the occurrence rate of those episodes on the increase. The U.S. Navy's Super Hornets and older F-18 Hornets, similar to Canada's ageing CF-18s, have been afflicted with oxygen loss and depressurization, a dysfunction whose source and solution has eluded investigators.

Loss of oxygen (hypoxia) is a gradual process in pilots; instead of quickly passing out, pilots will feel confusion or vertigo as though they're drunk, before loss of consciousness occurs. This process has raised alarms, that pilots would not recognize symptoms of hypoxia until it's too late to react and take measures to save themselves and the aircraft. No fatality has yet occurred stemming from these "physiological effects" since 2011.

An article published recently in the Navy Times, however, reports on the U.S. Navy, stating that military personnel are concerned with the growing number of incidents. At least 14 deaths in the past twenty years attributed to oxygen loss and decompression sickness is the issue at hand. A Boeing spokesperson confirmed the oxygen problem, that it was a "complex issue" that Boeing is working on with the U.S. Navy.

And this is the plane that the Liberal government in Canada is claiming will fit the bill in replacing Canada's ageing jet fighters.

Unseemly haste to dispense of all that might refer to the previous Conservative-led government has been the hallmark of the current Liberal government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The fact of the matter is that an incoming prime minister is not entitled to place a shield of no-go between his administration and that of a predecessor. The fact of the matter is, Prime Minister Stephen Harper was respected, admired and valued for his qualities as a human being and for his capability as a politician of the highest rank.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper proved his mettle in many areas of endeavour; as a skilled politician, a great Canadian, a writer and a musician, and a highly intelligent individual. Justin Trudeau's academic, professional and working life experiences have been shallow by comparison, his spontaneous statements betraying an absence of acute intelligence masked by a facade attractive to many people, of good-natured optimism which has contrasted favourably for him with Mr. Harper's natural reticence.

It is no doubt remembered by the Liberals and particularly by their leader, that Mr. Harper was able to persuade Canadian voters to place their trust in his capable hands for almost a decade. In the last election that defeated the Conservatives and brought the Liberals to their majority, it was the bleeding of votes from the NDP that gave that majority to the party that took many NDP ideas and made them their own. In that same election, the Conservatives obtained 30 percent of the vote; over 5.5-million Canadians voted for Mr. Harper.

The Liberal government's haste to turn around many of the values and initiatives of the Conservative government's legislation have not stood this country in good stead. What the Liberal government's preoccupation with reversing many of their predecessors' stands and decisions on many issues important to Canada has demonstrated, is the pettiness and shallow appreciation by the Liberals of what constitutes good governance and its responsibility to those they represent - and that would be all Canadians.

For sheer pettifogging absurdity, the Liberals stooped just about as low as might be possible, albeit not as low as might be conceivable, when the Privy Council Office issued official requests to Google for deletion of all the previous government's web pages highlighting the former prime minister's time in office. The Liberals took office on November 4, and from that date forward no fewer than 51 such requests were made, for Google to sweep the website clear of material relating to Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

The meanness with which this Liberal government has pursued its vendetta against the Conservative government that preceded it is a fairly good indicator of the small minds behind it all. It starts with Justin Trudeau but by no means ends there.

The Clay Feet of the Idealistic Reformer

Formulating a future for Canada with the incoming Liberal government, it seems certain Canada's new prime minister will be reaching to the past; so much for out with the old, the stale and the corrupt and in with the fresh, with young, new ideas and the champions of justice and fairness. The last Liberal government was not able to overcome the excesses and corruption of the one it inherited when Paul Martin took the reigns finally dropped by Jean Chretien.

The scandals of sucking at the endless trough of tax money and the endless rewards given to Liberal faithful, disgusted Canadian voters sufficiently to bring back a Conservative government, one that former Prime Minister Stephen Harper forged from a coalition between the Progressive Conservatives and the Reform parties. The scare-mongering was that Mr. Harper held a secret agenda close to his chest until it was revealed through nine years of governing that the agenda was to govern like a centrist.

Jean Chretien took care, like Brian Mulroney before him, to feather his future nest; the former paving the way for business with China, the latter in a crooked under-the-table deal with a German arms manufacturer's lobbyist. It was the indefatigable Chretien who led high-powered trade missions to China, making valuable contacts useful to him once he represented a law firm post-governance, to usher Canadian companies into China and pocket the legal fees.

Chretien saw China as the goose laying his golden eggs. Justin Trudeau raised eyebrows when he mused admiringly of China's Communist regime's ability to govern with no interference. No profit to be made in the pursuit of human rights, after all. And, so now that Mr. Trudeau is in the position of selecting his advisers and his ministers, can Canada anticipate a new direction, leaving the old corrupt entitlements of the Liberal Party behind?

He has appointed, it seems an old bureaucrat, Peter Harder, a Liberal party stalwart and incidentally president of the Canada China Business Council (CCBC) to help usher in the new Canada that Trudeau promised voters. Another CCBC director, former Liberal cabinet minister David Dingwall will be on board, as will be Martin Cauchon, another CCBC vice-chairman, a Chretien-era cabinet minister.

A vice-president of Power Corporation of Canada, yet another CCBC vice-chairman, Peter Kruyt, will help lead Canada to a full free trade agreement with China, along with John Manley, formerly a Chretien Liberal cabinet minister, currently president of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives. There are close connections between the CCCE and the CCBC to cement Canada's chief executives' inroads into the Chinese trade market.

Mr. Harder has as many engaged tentacles as any powerful Liberal octopus; a "senior policy adviser" with Dentons Canada LLP, a global law firm with 4,000 of its 6,500 lawyers working in China for Dentons' Beijing Dacheng Law Offices, specializing in deal-making with Chinese state-owned companies. And who has been engaged as company counsel? None other than Jean Chretien. Surprise; the top official at Dentons-Dacheng is chairman of the board, Peng Xuefeng, also member of the Communist party-dominated Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

Where Chinese President Xi Jinping has ruled over a regime busy arresting hundreds of human rights lawyers, the Canadian firm hasn't been touched. Jean Chretien's son-in-law, president of Power Corporation, Andre Desmarais, pioneered Canadian investments in China. Even Pierre Trudeau served time on Power Corporation's international advisory board; Trudeau-era mandarin Michael Pitfield was a Power Corporation vice-chairman.

And Canadian diplomat and one-time senior UN official Maurice Strong served in the past as president of Power Corporation and then Petro-Canada, and for Ontario, the head of Ontario Hydro. Maurice Strong has been lauded as a committed environmentalist, right down the Liberals' alley, eager to invest in carbon taxes. During the Iraq oil-for-food issue a cheque was discovered for almost $1-million made out to Maurice Strong from Saddam Hussein's regime in Baghdad, through a Jordanian bank account.

Mr. Strong was the architect of the 1997 Kyoto accord, crafting it so well that China as the world's swiftest-growing economy and fast becoming the world's worst carbon polluter, was off the hook for consequences. And though Canada signed the Kyoto Accord, the successive Liberal governments failed spectacularly to curb Canada's greenhouse-gas emissions, leaving Prime Minister Harper in no position to reduce them, while becoming the whipping boy of environmentalists.

We've come full circle. Justin Trudeau, as the newly-to-be-sworn-in Prime Minister of Canada will be attending the global conference on climate change in Paris in December to discuss Kyoto's conclusion.

What's Behind Trudeau's Secret Mosque Visit?

Recently, Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau met privately with a group of Islamic leaders inside a Regina mosque, an event from which the media were barred.

The Liberal party is keeping a tight lid on what transpired during the two-hour, closed-door session last Tuesday.

The gathering may well be one of the few election events of 2015 that will go unreported because as one correspondent assigned to cover the story told me: "Unfortunately I wasn't permitted inside."

It seems almost every time Trudeau steps inside a mosque, he walks into a minefield of controversy.
In March 2011 he visited a mosque in Montreal that a month later was classified by U.S. intelligence as an al-Qaida recruitment centre. Trudeau pleaded ignorance, arguing the mosque's link to al-Qaida came up only after he had visited it. In fact, as early as 2006, CBC's Radio Canada had done a lengthy investigative report on that mosque, identifying it as a well-known centre of radical anti-West rhetoric.

What did Trudeau discuss with Islamic leaders behind closed doors at a Regina mosque?

In 2013, Trudeau spent an evening at the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) Islamic centre west of Toronto during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. The parent organization of ISNA in the U.S. has been listed by the U.S. Justice Department as an "unindicted co-conspirator" in a terror funding trial. ISNA was never charged with any crime, but prosecutors listed it as one of the "entities who are and/or were members of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood". (A federal judge later ruled the document should not have been released and ISNA said its inclusion was guilt by association.)

The Regina mosque where Trudeau held his closed-door meeting last week "recommends" the ISNA website to its members on its web page.

A Liberal press release made no mention of the event. When I pressed for an explanation, a Liberal staffer in Ottawa called me saying it was not Liberal policy to make visits to religious institutions open to the media.

But that's not accurate. Trudeau has been photographed praying alongside Muslims in a Surrey mosque.

Next, I asked Liberal MP Ralph Goodale who had accompanied Trudeau, why the media was barred from the Regina mosque event. His answer was: "Media was present for coverage at door to mosque. Inside was regular evening prayer. Not our place to invite media."

But that does not match the account by Regina's Leader-Post newspaper. It said, "The Liberal leader arrived in Regina on Tuesday evening and headed to a south-end mosque where ... the media was not permitted to attend." The reporter, Nathan Liewicki, later told me, "A (Liberal) party spokesperson said Trudeau was going to be at the mosque and that the media were not able to attend."

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the mosque told me in an email Trudeau met with many members of the local Muslim community during his visit adding: "It was wrongly reported in the media that they were not allowed to attend. The coordinator from the Liberal party was asked to arrange for (a) media person if they wanted."

Contrast the Liberals' secrecy with Conservative Leader Stephen Harper's visit to a Hindu temple in Toronto on Monday. It was an open event with no restrictions on the media while the Liberal one was shrouded in secrecy.

Trudeau owes an explanation to Canadians. What was discussed behind closed doors with Islamic leaders inside that mosque?

Hypocrisy Roosts In Revolt

"We, the undersigned, former Liberal Members of Parliament, are concerned about your [Liberal leader Justin Trudeau] recent pronouncement that people who hold a particular view on a given moral issue, as a matter of conscience, cannot be Liberal candidates for the position of MP unless they agree to park their consciences at the entrance to the House of Commons and vote directly opposite to their fundamental beliefs, as directed by you. We believe your undemocratic position will alienate many voters who have, in the past, voted Liberal. We ask that you rescind your decision, for at least the following reasons.
"First, the firm position of all previous Liberal Leaders, including Pierre E. Trudeau, has been that, on moral issues, Liberal Members of Parliament were able to vote according to their respective consciences. This clear and consistent position served the Party well, as witnessed by the number of years the Liberal Party was the Government in the 20th Century, For you to fully reverse this wise, long-held position of all your predecessors, without any cogent reason, legal or otherwise, has the potential to alienate many former Liberal voters.
"Second, since your edict singles out the issue of being opposed to abortion, but only that issue, it clearly discriminates against a select class of people, namely those who oppose abortion, and no one else, such as those who might oppose, or be in favour of, say, assisted suicide. We believe that such discrimination is a clear violation of the spirit, if not the letter, of The Charter of Rights and Freedoms, section 2(a) which guarantees everyone, even Liberal Members of Parliament, "freedom of conscience", and (b), which guarantees everyone, even Liberal Members of Parliament, "freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression."
"Third, your pronouncement deprives the members of local Liberal Riding Associations from nominating for election, anyone who is pro-life, and, by logical extension, anyone who has firm personal beliefs on any issue that differs from Party policy as imposed by you. This clearly negates your promise that Liberal nominations will be fair, open and democratic.
"Finally, if your order is not rescinded, it will stand as a precedent for you, and future Liberal Leaders, to issue similar edicts on other moral issues, such as being either for or against assisted suicide, euthanasia, embryonic stem cell research, human cloning, animal/human genetic splicing/mixing and many such issues which we cannot even imagine today, but which may develop as our technological knowledge increases at an ever more rapid pace. After all, if the Leader can ban people from running for the Party because they are opposed to abortion, then why not because they advocate euthanasia, or agree with human cloning, or are opposed to either or both these concepts? Where does one draw the line?

Federal Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau says his MP John McKay has strong feeling about abortion

Well, Oops, Justin Trudeau. The current Prime Minister, whom you wish to replace as speedily as possible governs on behalf of all the people of Canada. You, it seems, plan to govern for those who believe as you do. Canadians should see it in their best interests to elect a seasoned, intelligent individual capable of governing the country in the very best interests of all concerned.

While it has often been claimed that Stephen Harper runs a too-tight ship, restraining his ministers from making public statements unless they have his full confidence, and that he is autocratic and mean-spirited, the truth appears to tell us a somewhat different story. The story now revolves around a Liberal leader who insists on vetting riding candidates before permitting them to run for public office, and who prefers to hand-pick choice candidates in specific ridings.

Justin Trudeau has proven himself time and again to be a person whose education is somewhat as lacking as his experience and it shows in his public performance. The tragedy is that the public sees the celebrity persona with the flashing smile and hears promises that are saccharine and meaningless in the context of the business of governance. And they are prepared to forgive him all manner of transgressions, inclusive of his ill-advised public speaking fees while a Member of Parliament, and his absences from the House, missing far too many working days in preference of glad-handing.

From expressing sympathy for the exploits of terrorists who must, according to Mr. Trudeau, have suffered some ignominious past personal painful hurt to turn them to psychopathy, to admiration for a communist dictatorship's ability to bypass public opinion, to tolerance for a simple majority in Quebec secession, and the puzzling cutting of the umbilical cord between the party and the Senate, his ill-advised opinions and dictates point to callow and shallow.

It is not just past Liberal MPs who have been critical of Trudeau, but current members as well. When Justin Trudeau initially announced his dictate that anyone opposing a woman's right to abortion under any circumstances would have no place in the Liberal Party, John McKay, a longtime Liberal who has held various cabinet posts under previous Liberal governments and who acts currently as his party's environment critic stated: "I initially thought it was a bozo eruption; that he didn't actually think about what he said."

 His leader had said Liberal members would be expected to vote against any bill that would have the effect of restricting a woman's right to have access to safe, legal abortions, in order to respect the charter. While he himself appears not to respect the charter. And at a time and place when there is no concern in Canada that women should have the right to decide for themselves whether or not they wish to carry a full-term pregnancy. In Canada, the problem is provinces like Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick that flout the unwritten law.

Mr. McKay, according to a CTV News report was recorded saying "If you don't know this is a toxic issue for a population, then you have no political sense whatever." Retired Liberal MP Jim Karygiannis at the time informed a popular television interlocutor that the recently issued dictum by Trudeau "would hurt the party", and his prognostication was quite correct. Prime Minister Harper, on the other hand, has stated on several occasions that he has no intention of changing the current situation in Canada on abortion, reflecting a Canadian consensus.

"The Liberals were already the big tent party ... He's now reduced that party to the pup tent. He's really narrowed the choice for people. He's made the Liberals a carbon copy of the NDP. I call it NDP-lite", said Pat O'Brien, former Liberal MP from Ontario. The Prime Minister is far more democratic than his challenger. It is now revealed that Mr. Harper is fully supportive of a legislative plan to strip him personally of the power, as party leader, to veto election candidates favoured by local riding associations.

Justin Trudeau has interfered in a number of riding association nominations, and is now the target of a law suit as a result. "This prime minister [Stephen Harper] is now acting in a manner that is more democratic than any of his predecessors. He becomes the first leader in a half century to declare his support for the removal of the legal veto power of party leaders over candidates. That speaks once again to his willingness to cede power to the Canadian people and to grassroots political participants so that they can exercise their own will", stated Conservative MP Pierre Polivier.

A Leading Trait

From laid back to authoritarian, that's the scope of potentials, particularly when observing the manifest destiny being carried along on a tide of enthusiasm from a voting public in love with youth and inexperience, or so it would seem. The Trudeau torch has been caught by Justin Trudeau and he holds it aloft in memory of his father who most certainly distinguished himself as a polarizing figure in Canadian politics, one scorned by many, adored by as many other Canadians.

And here is his son and heir, in full, living colour. Unlike his father he comes at an early age to siring a family of his own, and it doesn't seem likely that his marriage, one of generational peers and a certain level of modest accomplishment between both, is likely to implode as did that of his parents. He posits himself as a role model for the middle-class Canadian whom he champions, though his background, name and personal fortune does rather set him aside from the middle-class.

He promised that he would do politics far better than the Conservatives who now administer the country's affairs. Stand his experience beside that of the current Prime Minister, a man who has an economics degree, has worked both in government and for private interests, has achieved high status in both, and who also, though not gregariously inclined as is Trudeau, has mastered artistic accomplishments.

The far more modest accomplishments of Justin Trudeau as a private school drama coach, a motivational speaker, and an aspiring politician with a penchant for talking himself into very awkward positions garnering notice and censure, still leaves him convinced he is imbued with all the characteristics of a prime minister.

Critical of the authoritarian streak manifested by the man whom he would replace, he vowed to listen, to take advice, to represent all Canadians equally.

And, under his leadership, it would be the community who would select the candidate for public office of their choice, not his considered interfering choice. How did it all go so awry, other than for the fact that this is a man who believes in his infallibility of inspired choice, tutored from above by his father? The centralization of power has echoes of a former Trudeau, as does the firmness of self-confidence.

His defenders call it strong leadership. Whereas they counter the strong leadership as practised by Prime Minister Stephen Harper, manipulative, autocratic and anti-democratic. The strong leadership potential of this new leader after a succession of sad duds would haul the federal Liberals from the dustbin of third party status to majority government. His popularity, in fact, augers just that.

He would make the party he heads more democratic than that of the firm-handed, suspicious PMO. Starting with releasing Liberal Senators from party caucus and firmly instructing them to go their own way, leaving behind a profusion of confused and disappointed party loyalists. The Justin Trudeau election team interferes in party nominations. And his unilateral declaration that none need apply who don't hold his firmly intractable position on abortion.

He, along with former Liberal MP Dan McTeague, both considering a return to politics, are barred from representing the Liberal Party of Canada under its leader Justin Trudeau, for their anti-abortion stance. So much for the big umbrella that forward-looking Canadians are invited to shelter under, and go forth in unison to represent the interests of the entire country. A balanced debate really is too much to expect under the open-style government of the Liberals, it seems.

But then, the Liberal leader aspiring to the heights in Parliament also prefers to shun it, with sparse appearances during Question Period, referring instead to travel the land to meet Canadians at home and respond to their questions instead, as prospective leader of the country. At least we can sigh with relief that he no longer uses time as a Parliamentarian to bankroll lucrative speaking engagements as he did before becoming party leader.
