Evidently the current political scene in Canada as it prepares for an election that most Canadians hope will result in seeing the last of current prime minister Justin Trudeau has caught President Trump's attention. Trudeau's governing Liberal party has been a decade of declining Canadian fortunes. In the sphere of economics, of social cohesion, of mass immigration that has seen a proliferation of ardent Islamists infiltrating society and government. A lack of adequate attention to incoming migrants and their capacity to accept Canadian culture, laws and social mores has led to increasing criminality and total lawlessness.

 

Their numbers have helped to overwhelm the country's universal medicare system. The housing market is facing severe shortages due to increased demand. The nation's social safety net has been stretched out of proportion to its capacity to do justice to the needs of the established population, now exacerbated by the entry of millions of immigrants, illegal migrants, refugees, foreign students and migrant farm workers. The incompetence of the governing Liberals led by the preening, political/social divisiveness of Justin Trudeau whose normalization of Critical Race Theory, DEI and environmental 'concerns' have torn Canadian society apart, and beggared the economy.

 

 

Through all of this, the last possible thing the country needs is the needling interference of a foreign government, one that threatens to bring the Canadian economy to its knees, offering relief should Canada agree to become the 51st State in the American union. The stiff tariffs he has threatened to impose on Canadian imports to the United States, the country's largest trading partner and neighbour, would be ruinous to Canadian industry and just incidentally impact the American economy deleteriously as well.

 

In the auto sector, for example, the two countries' production is massively intertwined. An additional tax burden would be reflected in an equally troublesome burden for American consumers as well. The former Canadian finance minister, Chrystia Freeland, viewed as distastefully by the Canadian electorate as her formerly-adored boss, Justin Trudeau, is now running for election to replace him, following his resignation after her own, when it was revealed that he had once again undermined one of his top Cabinet ministers. 

 

President Trump recalls his personal distaste for Ms. Freeland who played a key role in the continental trade pact that replaced the North American Free Trade Agreement, during his first tenure as U.S. President. "I don't back down -- and Trump and Putin know it. I'm ready to fight for Canada -- and win", she responded to President Trump's insults expressed during an interview with The Spectator.

 

Canada has been thrown into the disarray of uncertainty following President Trumps executive order implementing a 25 percent tariff on Canadian and Mexican imports, which many experts interpret as a move by the president to place pressure on both countries prior to a re-negotiation of the successor to NAFTA by the Canada-Mexico-United States trade agreement, due to take place in a year's time.

 

Canadian officials have been travelling to Washington and to border U.S. states for months in an effort to rally American support against the imposition of trade tariffs, potentially ruinous to both countries. Canadian law enforcement and border officials have also travelled to the U.S. capital to meet with lawmakers and members of President Trump's inner circle in government. Among the issues Canada and Mexico were charged with, was their lax attention to the opioids and illegal migrants flooding into the U.S. across Mexican and Canadian borders.

 

In the instance of both, Canada is responsible for a vanishingly low number; some 2%, as opposed to maximum numbers around 70% through Mexico. Canada's Public Safety Minister responded that "any test that was put on this country, on Canada, in terms of showing progress and meeting standards for the border -- I believe those have been met."  The President's targets of complaints against his North American neighbours have wide range -- from defence spending to trade deficits. And throughout these complaints have been added President Trump's vision of Canada succumbing to America's Divine Destiny, as a 51st State.

Canada Decimated By A Trudeau Bomb

"Not everyone associated with the Liberals, fortunately, is willing to debase themselves in front of the world like this. MP Marco Mendicino posted on X: 'I do not support [the UN's] call for Israel to agree to what is, effectively, an unconditional ceasefire'."

"Montreal MP Anthony Housefather similarly registered his displeasure with the vote: 'Hamas, a terrorist organization is entirely responsible for starting a war', he posted."

"A temporary ceasefire had been in place last month, but Hamas began firing rockets into Israel while it was still in effect, and refused to continue releasing hostages."

In an earlier  October 26 UN general assembly vote on a resolution calling for a "humanitarian truce" making no mention of the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, Canada's ambassador to the UN stated Canada would not support the text since Hamas's role was ignored. His amendment to the resolution condemned Hamas, "it names what has to be named. If the proposed amendment is not adopted, the Assembly will not have recognized one of the world's worst terrorist attacks and we will all have to live with that failure", Bob Rae said at that time.

Canada's amendment failed to impress sufficiently, leaving Canada to abstain. Fast forward to Tuesday's UN general assembly, yet another non-binding UN motion calling for an 'immediate humanitarian ceasefire'. Yet again no mention of the Hamas atrocities on October 7, much less that it continues to send rockets into Israel, while its operatives face off with IDF troops in a Gaza ground war, even as its executive leaders issue orders from the security of Turkey and Qatar. The new resolution called for an 'immediate humanitarian ceasefire', once more failing to condemn Hamas. In the event, an Austrian amendment citing Hamas's role in instigating the conflict failed to garner support to pass. But that failed to impress Canada and it voted for the resolution, along with 152 other general assembly members.

This is the government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at work, finding it useful to abandon Canada's traditional role in support of a fellow democracy, one which shares the values and much of the culture that is traditionally Canada's. That WAS Canada's traditionally. Under this Liberal government much has gone by the wayside under its post-national, LGBTQ-2-devoted prime minister who has chosen to deep-six further development of Canada's immense riches in natural resources associated with the fossil fuel industry in favour of eschewing energy sources in gas and oil in favour of renewables uncertainties.

A government that has chosen not to delve too deeply in the intrusive threats of the Chinese Communist Party involving itself in stealth interference in Canada's elections, deleterious to Canada's sovereignty. Chinese 'police stations' established in a number of Canadian cities for the purpose of intimidating and threatening Chinese-Canadians who criticize the government in Beijing are allowed free rein, even while Canada is sanctimoniously involved in supporting China's environmental credentials through Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault acting as executive vice-chairman of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development, an advisory board of the People's Republic of China. Where Canada's official stance is denying development of its own energy resources, it partners with the country whose massive use of coal for energy is responsible for a major proportion of the world's production of carbon dioxide.

It's becoming increasingly difficult to recognize this new Canada. One that abandons its traditional role as a respecter and champion of human rights. A Canada that once stated openly and frequently that it would never abandon its support of the Jewish liberal democracy that is Israel, alone in a sea of autocratic kingdoms, tyrannies and theistic supporters of terrorism. Finally, in this government's abandonment of its allyship with Israel, it faces criticism from within its own caucus where multiple Liberal MPs despaired of Canada's vote at the United Nations, highlighting with clarity the Trudeau government's craven surrender to the domestic votes to be counted on from a large and growing Muslim population.

This suggestion must rank as the most cynical of sanctimonious yet, since it could not possibly escape anyone's notice that Israel, having had to cope with Palestinian violence and intransigence over multiple attempts at bargaining for peace, is very well versed in the thinking of Palestinian leaders. The Israeli leadership has for generations attempted to appease their Palestinian counterparts with concessions, all to no avail. It was never a two-state 'solution' that the world clamours for, that remained the goal of the Palestinians, but a one-state solution solved by the disappearance of Israel.

The Hamas charter states unequivocally that its purpose for existence is the destruction of Israel. It exists to kill, and has frequently jubilantly stated it loves death and martyrdom, and has groomed Palestinian Gazans to think similarly, prepared to surrender their lives for the murder of Jews. This Liberal MP knows this as well as anyone else with half a brain. But in the Liberal government of Justin Trudeau all is pretense and a show of pious virtue-signalling. This government's expanded immigration intake has gifted Canada with a stealth presence of illiberal, racist infiltration that Trudeau caters to for their vote-appeal.

And in the process, Justin Trudeau has betrayed the Canada that once was, transforming it steadily into a Canada no one can any longer recognizes. Among those dismayed at the transformation are Jews who have lived in this young country for over 260 years, deep in its history, steeped in their own history of Canadian antisemitism before and during the Holocaust when all doors were closed to Jewish refugees, to finally attain a place of equality and inclusion in the following decades, only to see their equality gains shrivel in the past decade, when immigrant/refugee numbers from the Middle East and North Africa imported Jew-hate that is finally fully in bloom threatening the security of Jews in Canada, just as Jews in Israel are facing existential threats, not least from the very institution formed to protect universal human rights.

End the Siege on Canadian Jews Now!

At Concordia University a table draped with an Israeli flag and where photos of Israeli hostages were placed resulted in anti-Israel protesters screaming, uttering threats and resorting to physical violence. Yanise Arab, a humanities professor at University of Montreal whose specialty is "dominance and resistance in the Arab world", hurled an insult at one of the Jewish women manning the table: "Go back to Poland, sharmouta!" he shouted. (In Arabic 'sharmouta' is the word for 'whore').

 

A woman screaming obscenities at Jewish students went viral with 2.4 million views because she shouted 'kike' at a Jewish woman. The woman was later identified as a 29-year-old using they/them pronouns. These incidents have been occurring all over Canada, 'activist' pro-Palestinians confronting Jewish students, threatening and abusing them, bringing the conflict between Israel and Hamas directly to Canada in virulent confrontations.

 

A day ago bullet holes were discovered in the doors of two Jewish schools in a suburb of Montreal, two days after an overnight firebombing of a Montreal synagogue and the nearby offices of Federation CJA, a Jewish community organization. The message is clear and clearly violently antisemitic. Canada's prime minister responded with "We condemn this antisemitic violence in the strongest possible terms. This hatred has no place here in Montreal, in Quebec or in Canada."

The October 7 terrorist attack on southern Israel when Hamas operatives broke down the protective border wall and streamed into towns and villages in the early morning hours mutilating infants, shooting at civilians, murdering families at breakfast in their homes, raping girls and women, and in that one day of horror slaughtering 1,400 people in Israel, most of them civilians. Another 240 children, women, teens and soldiers were taken hostage into Gaza. That was a direct invitation to Israel to respond.

The protests by those claiming to be pro-Palestinian and demonstrating just how virulently antisemitic and anti-Israel they are, have been loud and adamant that Israel was responsible for the carnage created by the sadism of the Hamas terrorists. And Palestinian Canadians and other Muslim groups in Canada are making ti clear that while they're championing Hamas for its 'victory' over Israel, they're holding Canadian Jews responsible for the plight of the Palestinians under the Israel Defense Forces onslaught to destroy Hamas.

That this can all be taking place in a liberal democracy is more than a trifle disconcerting to the Jews experiencing the verbal and at times physical attacks by Hamas defenders. Prime Minister Trudeau has made some boilerplate statements meant to convey how measured he is in his condemnation of these un-Canadian acts of intimidation by one group of Canadians against another. 

"[The rise in antisemitism Canada has witnessed in recent weeks is] terrifying. Molotov cocktails thrown at synagogues, horrific threats of violence targeting Jewish businesses, targeting Jewish day cares with hate. This needs to stop, this is not who we are as Canadians."

"[Also troubling is the] rise of Islamophobia we're seeing across the country."

If there have been incidents targeting Canada's Muslim population in Canada, they're difficult to determine, because none have been reported in the news. If one thing can be guaranteed, it is that Islamic antisemites love to portray themselves as victims, at the very time that they're victimizing Jews; they turn the issue inside out to claim they've been targeted by the "Zionist lobby" merely because they have vented their spleen at Israel's 'occupation' and the slopover has targeted Canadian Jews.

This prime minister is tolerant of unsupportable abuse against Jews whose vote has traditionally gone to the Liberals. But his eye is on the far larger Muslim-Canadian population whose vote Mr. Trudeau feels he cannot afford to offend and lose at the ballot box. So protesters who hold up signs recalling Nazi death camps can be overlooked. While no Jewish protests have taken place outside of mosques or Palestinian businesses, shouting mobs in front of synagogues and boycotts of Jewish businesses is just business as usual.

This prime minister was quick to infer that Israel bombed the Al-Ahli hospital, that it was "absolutely unacceptable", and against "international law", even when Israel argued it was not involved, yet this prime minister preferred to believe the lies promulgated by a terrorist group rather than that of a Democratic ally state. Even after Canada's Minister of Defense issued a statement categorically assigning responsibility to Hamas's allied terrorist group Islamic Jihad, no apology slipped out of Mr. Trudeau's hasty tongue.

"In Gaza, as elsewhere, international law must be upheld by all. This includes humanitarian law. Even wars have rules", says this prime minister, offering a lesson in humanitarian law to a country that practices it as matter of course through its unassailable system of equality and justice while coping with ceaseless violent attacks from its neighbours. "Israel has the right to defend itself, but the price of justice cannot be the continued suffering of all Palestinian civilians", the man intones, with no expectation that those who rule the West Bank and Gaza may be ultimately responsible for the suffering of the Palestinians.

Canada's Jewish community is itself under siege. Canadians of all ages are threatened, and the result has been uncertainty as Canadian Jews are left concerned with their safety in a country they have viewed as their home for hundreds of years. This is a prime minister who cast himself as a leader for whom human rights applied equally in a just society that was his goal to achieve. No one realized at the time that he meant specifically that the rights of 'feminists', the LGBTQ-2 community, Indigenous, Black and people-of-colour were his concerns; Jews need not apply.

Tomorrow, on Remembrance Day, a day dedicated to the solemn dedication of the memory of those who fought and died for our freedom, Palestinian Students for Justice have arranged for yet another massive protest. Israel and Jews will once again be their targets. The Second World War targeted Jews with genocide, the pro-Palestinian, proxy for pro-Hamas champions will call once again for the obliteration of Israel in justice to the Palestinians, and here in Canada, Canadian Jews will again be threatened. And as usual, their prime minister will do nothing about it.

"They [protesters] actually jumped on to my car. They were banging on my windows, they were laying on the hood of my car and they were trying to prevent me from moving. I’m sure I’m on many pictures now on the Gaza Strip or wherever."

Yet Another of Justin Trudeau's Unfortunate Lapses in Judgement

Speaker of the House Rota's error in judgement brought down calls from all political parties in the Canadian Parliament, including his own, to step down from his position. His resignation required for having invited a man from his constituency -- to a ceremonial welcome in the Canadian Parliament for the president of Ukraine preparatory to hearing him address Parliament -- who had fought for the Nazi SS. Several days later, on Wednesday, he did just that, reluctantly, and claiming himself and he only to have been responsible for the hugely unsettling incident.

"It's for that reason, for the good of the institution of the House of Commons, that I say, sadly, I don't believe you can continue in this role."

Two days after House Speaker Rota had referred to his invited guest Yaroslav Hunka, sitting in the parliamentary gallery, as a "hero" who had fought for Ukrainian independence against the Soviets during the Second World War, when all those present in Parliament erupted into an ovation of recognition, it was reported that Yaroslav Hunka in actual fact had fought for the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS. This was a Nazi-controlled unit comprised of volunteer Ukrainian collaborators.

The Waffen Grenadiers was recognized post-war as a criminal organization operating in concert with Nazi Germany, willing recruits to mass murder, responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of Jews and Poles. Jewish groups demanded an immediate apology from the government of Canada. Poland's ambassador to Canada did the same. And Canadian parliamentarians were disgusted at having been invited unwittingly to applaud the exploits of a Nazi collaborator.

The Nazis established many collaborationist armies in the territories they occupied in Europe during the Second World War. There were collaborators from France, Italy and the Netherlands drawn by Nazi ideologies. And thousands of Ukrainians fought for Germany, believing fervently in German propaganda convincing them that Jews were at the helm of the Soviet government in Moscow and to kill Jews en masse would solve an oncoming event of Soviet occupation of Ukraine.

For its part, post-war, Canada chose to overlook and went so far as to provide official cover for emigrants from Ukraine that were Nazi collaborators portraying themselves as Ukrainian freedom fighters, though they fought with a unit founded by Nazis, served under Nazi command, and exclusively fought to serve the Nazi aim of annihilating Europe's Jews. Monuments to the unit were erected at Ukrainian cemeteries in Edmonton, Alberta and Oakville, Ontario.

When this situation was highlighted by the Russian Foreign Ministry in 2018, Canada's foreign affairs department rushed to deny it, calling it "Russian misinformation". Prime Minister Trudeau, in the wake of this latest dreadful affair, cites Russian "misinformation" as being responsible for Canada's own lapse of vigilance in bringing an old Nazi collaborator to Parliament for recognition as a 'war hero'. Speaking dismissively of Russian "disinformation" is Canada's deputy prime minister, Chrystia Freeland.

Russian 'propaganda' was cited when Russian investigators pointed out that her family during World War II was also embroiled in collaboration with the Nazis; her grandfather as editor of a Ukrainian, Nazi-affiliated newspaper, published in occupied Poland where antisemitic propaganda found a good home. These unfortunate details have also been investigated and recorded by Ukrainian academics in Canadian universities.

Nazi commanders had called for volunteers to sign up for the Schutzstaffel (SS) a corp of elite military members loyal to the Nazi Party, as a distinct unit not part of the German army. A French SS unit was in existence, as well as a Norwegian SS unit, a Dutch SS unit, and SS units formed unbelievably from British and American prisoners of war. The Ukrainian recruits were accepted and indoctrinated into a unit of Ukrainians, created in 1943.

The initial "ground zero" for the Holocaust took place in Ukraine, where German and collaborationist death squads murdered over a million Ukrainian Jews. Galicia Division recruits were likely intrigued by the thought of seeking a sovereign Ukraine eventually, gaining momentum in joining the SS, swearing a personal oath of allegiance to Adolf Hitler, their actions directed by Nazi German commanders.

Following war's end, a large number of Galicia Division veterans emigrated to Canada. At that time immigration policy was ordered in rejection of any veterans of the German Wehrmacht or the SS, yet through a 1985 federal public enquiry into war criminals being sheltered in Canada, Galicia Division members were granted cabinet-level exemption in 1950. At the time, the Canadian Jewish Congress fiercely opposed that decision, but was ignored. 

The reason given was that the division's volunteer Ukrainians had become a willing part of the Nazi SS "not because of a love of the Germans but because of their hatred for the Russians and the Communist tyranny". A hatred that extended lethally toward Europe's Jews, enabling the Division members with a clear conscience to murder Europe's Jews in defence of their Ukrainian homeland's future as a sovereign nation.

Mr. "Not My Fault" At It Again

"What happened", of course was that the House Speaker surprised those present to welcome Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the Canadian Parliament; they were present, along with parliamentarians and diplomats from other countries and invited guests to hear the Ukrainian president address the Canadian Parliament. Just prior to President Zelenskyy's address, Speaker Rota stood up and introduced the presence of a 98-year-old Ukrainian-Canadian, a former military officer, as a hero-veteran to be applauded.

Yaroslav Hunka, introduced as "a Ukrainian hero, a Canadian hero", was a member of Mr. Rota's North Bay constituency. Someone had obviously recommended the nonagenarian to be present for the welcome of the Ukrainian president to Canada, as a special, surprise treat, to honour a man for his long-past military service. To believe that Mr. Rota took this upon himself without consultation with the Prime Minister's Office is to be delusional. But then, Justin Trudeau has never heard of "the buck stops here".

Prime Minister Trudeau is accustomed to taking credit for anything that occurs that could conceivably be kind to his faltering reputation. Any events that continue to tarnish his future legacy and black-eye the Liberal government he heads are someone else's ill-doing, most unfortunate but not his problem. So that when a man is introduced and made much of ceremoniously and applauded for presumed service and courage, but then turns out to have been a member of a Nazi SS Division created for Ukrainian Nazi collaborators, it is an event beyond his ken.

When Mr. Trudeau was asked about apologizing himself for the invitation to a man who fought for Nazi Germany, embarrassing Canada on the world stage yet again, he merely shrugged and pointed out that Mr. Rota was the one involved, and his apology would suffice. Given the fact that the Privy Council Office and intelligence services scrutinize each and every invitee to Parliament, and that no antennae were raised of a man a simple Google search would identify as a Nazi collaborator, it's hard to take Mr. Trudeau seriously, nor should we.

Canadian Jewish groups publicly identified Mr. Hunka as having served in the First Ukrainian Division as an officer. Known as well as the Waffen SS Galicia Division, a purely voluntary unit comprised of Ukrainian nationals, operating under the direct command of the Nazi SS. The division "was responsible for the mass murder of innocent civilians with a level of brutality and malice that is unimaginable", observed the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies.

According to Mr. Rota, following the Friday event, he became aware of more information causing him to "regret" his decision, extending his "deepest apologies" to the Jewish community. The initiative to recognize Mr. Hunka, a member of his Nipissing-Timiskaming riding in northern Ontario, was "entirely" his own. Although government opposition parties criticized and blamed the governing Liberals for not having properly vetted the man and for placing them in a position where they applauded and celebrated someone associated with the Nazis, the reality is he would have been completely vetted.

Trudeau & Company simply felt that the optics of a 98-year-old veteran appearing before the Ukrainian president was too good a virtue-signalling opportunity to pass up. Like all the other bungled enterprises of the Liberal government, like appointing a racist antisemite to a position of training for civil servants in human rights, it seems just par for the course for them to think no one would notice through the euphoria of the moment that they were being exploited and manipulated for the greater good of the Trudeau agenda. "Russian disinformation" of course was behind the SS Waffen revelations.

Canada’s prison service is now reviewing its decision to move notorious serial killer and rapist Paul Bernardo from a maximum-security prison to a medium security facility. The transfer has sparked outrage across Canada’s political landscape. Bernardo is serving a life sentence for the murders of Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy in the early 1990s.  CBC

Child serial killer, serial rapist, Paul Bernardo was sentenced by Judge Patrick LeSage to life in prison. Which in Canada generally means 25 years. However, in Bernardo's case, in reflection of his horrendous crimes where others could be sentenced to a 25-year life sentence, and could appeal to a parole board; his sentence distinctly noted that he could not do so. A man utterly lacking conscience and empathy for others, his persona reveals the classic signposts of a psychopath: devious, narcissistic, utterly lacking in empathy or remorse.

 

Before he was identified and placed behind bars he admitted to at least 18 rapes, at a time when this predator had a wide geographic area transfixed with fear over a serial rapist, women forced to take precautionary measures in the hope they would not become one of his victims. Matters took a turn when he -- with his willing wife's assistance -- kidnapped Leslie Mahaffy age 14, and Kristen French, 15, torturing them, raping them and murdering them. He raped and killed the young sister of his wife Karla Homolka.

When both were arrested and police were desperate to find hard evidence, Karla Homolka struck a plea agreement with police, directing them to a light fixture in the bathroom of their house where incriminating videos of her husband's crimes could be found. Her reduced sentence in exchange for her eagerness to provide evidence was, in fact, a miscarriage of justice. She is now free, has remarried and is raising children of her own, a woman who aided and abetted her husband's unspeakable crimes for her own pleasure.

Recently the Correctional Services of Canada revealed that the hatefully notorious child rapist/murderer was being transferred to a medium-security institution from the maximum security prisons he was installed within for the past 28 years and public opinion was instant and furious. The families of the two girls he murdered were informed of the transfer the very day it took place. The Liberal government minister responsible for public safety and the prime minister denied any knowledge of the situation.

When the public and political uproar took place the commissioner of the Correctional Services noted that the CSA was simply following the law through an amendment to the Corrections and Conditional Release Act made by the Liberal government in 2019 called the "least restrictive environment" possible that inmates must be placed in. The view is that criminals have human rights that must be upheld, irrespective of the severity of any reprehensible criminal acts they engage in; a 'progressive' view that eschews retribution.

Lawyer Tim Danson wrote to Anne Kelly, the CSC Commissioner reminding that Bernardo had demonstrated no remorse, and continued to demonstrate signs of being the "sexually sadistic psychopath" he was at his trial, even after 28 years of incarceration. In 2021 a Parole Board hearing concluded that Bernardo remained a sexual sadist with psychopathic traits; at high risk of displaying violent, sexual behaviour. "At both parole hearings, the PBC found that Bernardo showed no remorse, insight or empathy", wrote Danson to the commissioner.

Once again Justin Trudeau, coasting on his vision of himself as charismatic world leader embarrasses Canada. He is not himself embarrassed. Nothing can embarrass the man with a hide as thick as an elephant's. It isn't hard to bring to memory Trudeau's trip to China in anticipation of signing a much vaunted free trade deal, during which time he lectured Beijing's government elite on women's rights, and ultimately returned to Canada no trade deal signed for him to hoist in pride and prejudice.

Or when re-negotiating the NAFTA agreement between Mexico, Canada and the United States, exhorting the other two countries to include a feminist agenda into the trade agreement. Priding the level of his mantle of 'feminist' extraordinaire, he used that gambit in other trade agreements, much to the consternation of those involved. Canadians have reached the point where they have reason to believe that other world leaders now have a tendency to shrink back lest they be contaminated when this man is around.

Justin Trudeau is fairly universally being criticized for his "repugnant" behaviour in lecturing his Italian counterpart, Italy's Giorgia Meloni on democratic values and virtues at the G7 meeting in Hiroshima last week. In fact, her incredulous body language and facial expressions spoke volumes even before she finally expressed a restrained opinion that Trudeau was 'misinformed' when he lectured her. Yet his brazen verbal assault in front of television cameras harmed not her, but her interlocutor.

 Italian media had a field day feasting on the rank hypocrisy of a man whose actions go a long way to speaking more raucously and honestly than his words. While PM Giorgia Meloni generously withheld condemnation of the irritatingly irrational lecture she was lashed with, she informed reporters that her Canadian counterpart was a "victim" of "fake news"; a response whose restraint is admirable. Trudeau, she went on was a "bit rash" in failing to understand that she has not changed existing legislation on LGBTQ issues in Italy.

Her own personal opinion is that every child deserves to be raised by a mother and a father. In fact, medical science appears to support just that; the vital importance in a child's life of a father and a mother. Aside from that Ms. Meloni was in defence of her government's position, following court rulings with respect to matters concerning LGBTQ issues. The Libero newspaper based in Milan displayed a photo of Trudeau in blackface on its front page, the headline reading "This buffoon wants to teach us lessons". 

Host Rita Panahi of Sky News Australia commented on Ms. Meloni's grimace under pain of lecture by Trudeau as that it "really sums up what all of us think of the repugnant, incompetent Trudeau". Perhaps Ms. Panahi is aware that many Canadians echo that sentiment of their prime minister's incompetent, arrogant behaviour. Strident environmentalist that he is, his constant jetting around the world and across the second-largest country of the world belies his dedication to saving the world in the finer interests of exposing the world at large to the sterling presence of an admirable world leader.

It is, of course, Italy's business alone that their government has informed city councils in Italy to put an end to officially recording both parents in same sex couples and to limit the records of parentage to biological parents, a move that has displeased gay rights groups where same-sex parents are unrecognized by Italian law. Italian Prime Minister Meloni might have lectured her Canadian counterpart on his country's euthenasia laws.

Where Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID), offers end-of-life services to those who live with excruciating pain, and whose illness is swiftly concluding their life's trajectory, preparing to extend state sanctioned euthanasia to the mentally incapable, to the homeless who no longer wish to live in poverty, and to children suffering mental and physical distress, pain, and incurably debilitating illnesses. Italy has no such euthanasia laws, where they are strictly forbidden.

Edmonton Police are loathe to release the name of the man dubbed a 'suspect' -- a man who acted as yet another perpetrator of 'stranger attacks' occurring all over Canada -- who stabbed to death in broad daylight outside a school, an Edmonton mother and her 11-year-old child. Their assailant was a complete stranger. What the Edmonton Police did release is that he had a long history of random violent encounters , including some against children, and had only recently been released from prison.

The spike in random violence is being attributed to a systemic failure of Canadian bail policy, where chronic violent offenders are released from custody, readily and too frequently, according to a near-unanimous coalition of police and political leaders. The situation is seen as the unintended consequence of a program set up to address the country's 'over-reliance' on incarceration as well as the 'over-representation' of marginalized groups within the prison system.

Canada, as it happens, had one of the lowest incarceration rates in the democratic world. Under the Liberal government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, this low rate of incarceration has dropped even lower, reflecting progressive compassion for the perceived underdog, over government responsibility to ensure that cities and towns and their inhabitants anywhere and everywhere in Canada are safe and secure from violence.

In 2015, when the Trudeau Government took office, statistics indicated 87.9 people jailed for evry100,000 Canadians. The last count in 2022 showed 66.8 for every 100,000, representing a 24 percent reduction. The non-profit World Prison Brief in 2016 identified Canada with a lower overall incarceration rate than Luxembourg, Spain and the U.K.; tied roughly with Belgium and France.

Now at the lower end of incarceration rates among G20 nations, in 2021 prison investigators issued a report in Australia concluding that Canada's incarceration rate was over 50 percent lower than its own. In comparing Canada to the rest of its hemispheric coevals, the disparity becomes particularly pronounced. Major South and Central American countries have an incarceration rate orders of magnitude higher than Canada's.

Canada ranked 164th in the world for incarceration rate, according to the tally maintained by World Prison Brief, with 2020 data. A ranking that has Canada with an incarceration rate of 85 per 100,000, in comparison to 531 for the United States, and 174 for Mexico. The only countries with lower prison populations are either European with exceptionally low rates of crime, or African countries lacking resources to maintain comprehensive criminal justice systems.

The-then Justice Minister in 2015 was tasked to explore "sentencing alternatives" and "bail reform" as well as "initiatives to reduce the rate of incarceration amongst Indigenous Canadians". A project no doubt dear to the heart of the-then minister, herself an Indigenous Canadian of high repute and accomplishment. In less than a few months the Justice Ministry released consultation reports focusing on Canada's "Over-reliance on incarceration".

 

Bill C-75 included a "modernization" of the bail system, requiring judges to consider a suspect's ethnic background when reaching judgement whether to release them from remand. Bail hearings previously had for the most part focused on flight risk and public safety. Following that, the Department of Justice produced Bill C-5, proposing to drop mandatory minimum sentences for a wide variety of firearms offences, openly declaring the justice system to be shot through with "systemic racism".

 

Bill C-75 is held by its critics to have yielded the consequence of increasing urban disorder and criminality by removing the option of police enforcing release conditions. Minister of Justice Murray Rankin in British Columbia's government, one led by the New Democratic Party, pointed out that the law had initiated a sharp rise of violent, repeat offenders attacking strangers on the streets of British Columbia.

 

Canada, it seems, has released so many non-Indigenous prisoners they have failed to address core justifications in pursuing the Trudeau government's prison reform in the first place: Indigenous "over-representation".

 

Canada's most recent statistics, according to the Correction Service of Canada, of "custodial admissions identify as Indigenous, a slightly higher share than in 2015, when the Justice Department first began studying the problem of "over-representation of Indigenous people".

 

Interference in Canada by the People's Republic of China

The Canadian public has been apprised of the failure of the Liberal government of Justin Trudeau to protect itself from Chinese interference in Canadian elections. Intelligence was leaked by Canada's spy agency to the press indicating that the prime minister had been briefed on numerous occasions of the situation where Beijing has applied pressure on Chinese-Canadians to reject political candidates for Parliament with anti-Beijing attitudes.

In actual fact, according to the data revealed and names named, pro-Beijing contacts in Canada had funded Beijing-friendly candidates in their election campaigns for public office, funding that was later restored to them by Beijing. The result being that in both provincial and federal ridings candidates were elected to sit as Members of Parliament whose first interests are to speak for China in the House of Commons and the provincial legislatures.

Canada has long been targeted by Beijing seeking to infiltrate academia, politics, science and technology and corporate business enterprises. Both for influence and for the opportunity to secure any and all government and private industry political and trade secrets. Canada does not, needless to say, represent China's sole foreign interest. Beijing has a vast influence and interference strategy powered by the Chinese Communist Party's United Front Work Department, documented by academics and think-tanks.

Australian researcher, Jichang Lulu detailed in a 2019 paper how a China "friendship group" in the European Parliament was a conduit for party influence, assisting in engineering "a growing global consensus on the legitimacy of the party's totalitarian governance". The moulding of a more positive image of China as well as neutralizing Beijing's enemies, according to analysts, represents one of China's goals in Canada. Enemies of China are described by Beijing as practising 'five poisons'.

The five are comprised of activities revolving around Tibetan independence by advocates, the Uyghurs in the Xinjiang region of China, the Falun Gong, Taiwan and pro-democracy activists in mainland China. In 2020 an employee of the now-defunct branch of the Confucius Institute funded by China at McMaster University informed of how she and other teachers were given instructions to speak to Canadian students of Tibet's 'liberation' by China and that Taiwan was an integral part of the People's Republic -- both assertions central to the Chinese Communist Party.

Chinese Canadians informed former ambassador Saint-Jacques that they feared to speak out themselves against the People's Republic lest they place relatives and friends back in China in jeopardy through repercussions that Beijing uses as threats to keep its critics in line. In turn they were grateful to him for his tough stance in revealing China's manoeuvres abroad. Critics of China claim there is little resistance to Beijing in its efforts to neutralize negative voices in Canada.

Practitioners of Falun Gong, China democracy proponents and minorities such as Tibetans and Uyghurs complained for years of harassment and intimidation by China. Amnesty International spearheaded a detailed report on interviews with those China has threatened, yet the federal government consistently resisted calls to have a system installed or police units to respond to such complaints.

Chinese police, it was recently revealed, have themselves set up a number of "service stations" in Canada, along with other countries, including the United States, which a Spanish human-rights watchdog explained were used to intimidate critics of the regime. Once this became public knowledge the federal police began to investigate the extraordinary presence of foreign police setting up shop and interfering with Canadian citizens of Chinese descent.

Beijing has long been involved in siphoning technological and other intellectual property out of Canada. A scientist fired from the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg who was escorted along with her husband who also worked at the Lab, out of the complex, and later fired, was named on patents in China for discoveries related to  her work as a federal civil servant in Canada. She had been discovered to have worked closely with a People's Liberation Army general. The federal government refused to release to Parliament details of the situation around the reason for the firing.

A United Front Work Department manual notes the number of politicians of Chinese descent elected in Toronto had almost doubled between 2003 and 2006, stating that officials should "aim to work with" those politicians. A concept  called "huaren canzheng" to encourage sympathetic ethnic Chinese to become actively involved in the electoral process is pushed by the United Front. Australian academic and researcher on Chinese interference, Clive Hamilton, wrote that Canada is at the forefront of the initiative. Understandably, since the Liberal government has always been warm to Chinese interference.

Academics such as Anne-Marie Brady of New  Zealand, who study the United Front Work Department explain it often works through friendly community and business groups. But it seems on the evidence of the last few years that Beijing's often clumsy attempts to increase its influence in Canada has resulted in a public that has become wary and resentful of its interference. The percentage of Canadians viewing 

China favourably has plummeted to record lows, according to a recent Angus Reid Poll. 

"It's a bit of a double-edged sword. What's actually happened is possibly the reverse of what the PRC was expecting", noted Mr. Molinaro. Mr. Saint-Jacques, however remains to be convinced, citing the fact that the government of Canada succumbed only under sustained opposition and media pressure to agree to look at a foreign agent registry to be established. The government of Justin Trudeau had kept under wraps continued warnings from the Canadian Security Intelligence Service related to election interference.

China has succeeded however, on another front. Beijing managed to deeply infiltrate the Chinese-Canadian community whose ethnic-language media is dominated by pro-China outlets. It is a community starkly divided, polarized by its reaction to a China that many distrust and many others support. A politically, socially fractured Chinese-Canadian community, mostly loyal to Canada, feeling themselves unprotected by their own government from the stealthy, steady predations of their totalitarian country of origin.
