According to Canada's foreign affairs department some of its diplomats abroad in India had received threats on social media platforms. This is part of an unfolding backlash in the wake of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's claims in the House of Commons as it resumed after a long summer break Monday, charging the government of India's having sent agents to Canada to assassinate a Canadian-Sikh Khalistani leader in British Columbia.

New Delhi's response was bemused and swift; absurd allegations. It had no involvement in the June 19 killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a committed secessionist who worked tirelessly on agitating for a Sikh homeland in India's Punjab, called Khalistan. Mr. Nijjar was deeply involved in agitating the Canadian Sikh population toward voting in a 'separation' referendum. He was also president of a Surrey, British Columbia gurdwara.

As it happened, he was also a wanted felon, back in India. He had entered Canada, claiming refugee status failing on his application to divulge information that would have disqualified him from entry to Canada. Nonetheless, his application was refused. He then turned to an oft-used ruse, marrying a woman with Canadian citizenship, who then sponsored him as an immigrant. India had asked for his extradition, registering his status as a terrorist with Interpol.

When Prime Minister Justin Trudeau travelled to India last week to attend a G7 conference, he had a brief meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. Mr. Modi expostulated during that meeting India's frustration with Canada's tolerance and indifference to Canadian Khalistanis' threat to India. A threat that saw a terrorist calamity with a bomb placed aboard an Air India jet in 1985, killing 320 onboard as it blew up midair, an act of Khalistani terrorism.

Khalistan protests continue to take place in Canada, during which threats to the life and limb of Indian diplomats based in Canada are issued. Posters of champions of the Khalistan movement who have been involved in murder are revered and marched through demonstrations through the streets of Canada in Vancouver and Toronto. As are hateful posters of assassinated former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, where her visage is mutilated and covered with blood.

This is the atmosphere that Narendra Modi chastised Justin Trudeau for permitting. During their brief ten-minute meeting, where it was made clear that Canada's inattention and inaction in response to such blatant hate messages is unseemly for a collegial democracy, Justin Trudeau insisted it was he who had chastised Mr. Modi -- for having been responsible for the death of a Canadian citizen -- Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Relations between India and Canada could not possibly have sunk any lower. A deep-freeze, caused by Mr. Trudeau's injudicious charge of involvement in murder by the Indian government that will not any time soon result in a reestablishment of relations. A situation that will cost Canada greatly; the slander against a trusted ally, the sinking of trade between the two nations, an international community response that increasingly views Trudeau as a theatrical poseur and unreliable colleague.

Each country has now expelled senior diplomats from their missions over these stark tensions. India is furious that despite India sharing information relating to criminal acts on Canadian soil, Trudeau took no action. As for the charges of the Indian government involvement in an assassination in Canada, it is scornfully charged as being "politically driven", reflective of a huge Sikh-Canadian population toward whom Trudeau is playing the part of defender against an India that wants its sovereignty whole.

India has had a long grievance with Canada, accusing it of being a haven for Sikh separatists, taking no notice of the need to protect Indian missions and consulates from the group's violent protests. New Delhi issued a warning for its citizens living and studying in Canada -- addressing a huge student population at Canadian post-secondary institutions -- to exercise caution wherever anti-India activities take place, with "politically condoned hate crimes".

The Unexamined Reality

"School attendance by Indigenous children was only made compulsory in 1920 for the same reason that that rule was applied to all other children."

The volatile, shocking and shameful issue of "unmarked graves of missing aboriginal children" in Canada consumed headlines across the nation and internationally when the first reports were aired of 'unmarked' graves having been discovered on the sites of former residential schools in Canada. Controversy over these allegations arose, but not questions leading to evidence and proof of the accusations. The public was quick to shrink in shame at what earlier generations of government action had perpetrated on First Nations in Canada.

 

And the current Liberal Prime Minister of Canada leaped at the opportunity to once again charge that Canada was a deeply racist country, guilty of maltreatment of First Nations, guilty of ignoring its past sins, guilty of imposing white values, customs and expectations on visible minority groups, and amends were long overdue. This from a man whose privilege as an elite and an aspiring celebrity figure didn't hesitate to find humour in dressing in brown- and black-face costume himself.

 

While Canada does indeed have a history of white privilege through its original European migration and colonialism emanating from Britain and France, and its treatment of Chinese labourers, Jews and Blacks was reprehensible, so too was its neglect of people calling themselves indigenous to the land. As earlier settlers before European migration, it is now acknowledged to be a country of immigrants from global sources and Canadians themselves largely tolerant.

None of which stopped Justin Trudeau from his usual theatrics of playing to his audience by ordering the Canadian flag to be lowered to half-mast in shame and memory of the Aboriginal children presumed to have been murdered by the staff at residential schools operated largely by the Roman Catholic Church. These were schools meant to usher First Nations children into the wider world, to teach them the basics of a sound education so they could find their place as equals in Canadian society. 

 

Children were taught how to comport themselves, taught the fundamentals of reading, writing, mathematics, geography, history, along with social mores and personal hygiene. Many children were homesick, as children were always wont to be, away from home. Some thrived in the educational environment, some resented their absence from family. Recall that in Britain children from a young age of the aristocracy were routinely sent to boarding schools; academies for boys, finishing schools for girls. As in the residential schools there were always nasty experiences along with the good.

 

In 2021, the Tk'emlups te Secwepemc First Nation in British Columbia revealed that a survey of ground-penetrating radar had discovered "the remains of 215 children who had been students of the Kamloops Indian Residential school". "These missing children are undocumented deaths", declared the First Nation chief. While the anthropologist who had conducted the GPR search cautioned excavations would be needed to verify that the survey's findings were in actual fact, burials.

 

That caveat was ignored in favour of accepting the horrifying fact of deliberate hidden deaths of children, and hysteria ensued. "For decades, most Indigenous children in Canada were taken from their families and forced into boarding schools. A large number never returned home, their families given only vague explanations, or none at all", reported the New York Times on May 28, 2021.

Soon more First Nations that had hosted residential schools conducted GPR scans of their own, announcing similar results. All federal government flags of Canada lowered to recognize the "215 children whose lives were taken at the Kamloops residential school", and lowered they remained for six months, anywhere Canada had a presence, including missions abroad in the great wide world where the sad fate of aboriginal children became common knowledge.

 

Leading China to sneer at the deliberate killing of indigenous children, even as Beijing slammed Canada for implying official China was leading a genocide against Xinjiang province's Uyghur population and Turkmen Muslims.  Evidence to back up the allegations? There was none actually sought, for to do so would serve to dispel the overwrought self-flagellation by a distraught public, and would also offend the suffering sensibilities of those claiming victimhood.

 

Then in June the Cowessess First Nation in Saskatchewan announced the discovery of 751 unmarked graves close to the site of its former residential school. This was the time when 68 mostly Roman Catholic churches, many established Indigenous parish churches, were vandalized, several torched in reprisal for the "murdered children". There were no investigations that might identify those responsible for the vandalism, a general public aura of 'serves them right' prevailed.

Any Indigenous individuals who found their experience at the residential schools had given them opportunities they would never otherwise have had, and who had gone on to build on the education given them to become members of highly respected professions, or those who recalled their parents having expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn how to live responsibly and with confidence in their abilities had their protests drowned out by the shame heaped upon them as betraying the narrative.

In point of fact, no groups of unmarked graves were discovered anywhere in Canada. Public funds were provided to conduct forensic investigations, but nothing has been done to clarify whether the disturbances in soil represent human burials. The majority of the GPR research took place in community cemeteries where others besides Indigenous people would have been buried. As for 'unmarked; originally simple wood crosses were erected and time and the elements had their way leaving thousands of unmarked graves.

As for "missing children", Alberta political scientist Tom Flanagan identifies that as a fabrication the Truth and Reconciliation Commission fantasized in its zeal to have the Canadian public accept that Canada had committed a 'social/cultural genocide'. In the 19th century many children died of communicable childhood diseases and of tuberculosis. Aboriginal children were particularly vulnerable to communicable diseases. All such deaths were recorded and families informed.

Unravelling the mystery: Archaeologist Scott Hamilton’s report for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission into the burial of deceased Indian Residential School children included a wealth of information about how and why they died and what happened afterwards. This was available many years before the ground penetrating radar survey in Kamloops in spring 2021.

 

Never were there enquiries of missing Indigenous children filed with police or other authorities. Indian resident school students were enumerated meticulously in the calculation of per capita subsidy to the schools by the Department of Indian Affairs. And nor were 150,000 Aboriginal students "forced" to attend residential schools. Canada committed to $4.7 billion in reparations and federal budgets allocated hundreds of millions to "addressing the shameful legacy of residential schools". 

Schools that lifted children out of illiteracy, launching them into an educated adulthood. 

"Regardless of the start date, it is important to note that these schools were initially created at the express request of Indigenous leaders who wished to secure a formal English-language education for their people.In fact, a federal requirement to provide education was a key component of all nine numbered treaties covering Western and Northern Canada. The following excerpt from Treaty 3, concluded in 1873, is typical: “Her Majesty agrees to maintain schools for instruction in such reserves hereby made as to her Government of Her Dominion of Canada may seem advisable whenever the Indians of the reserve shall desire it.” During his 1881 tour of Western Canada, Governor-General John Douglas Sutherland Campbell, the Marquess of Lorne, met with Indigenous chiefs who made repeated requests for better education. Dakota Chief Standing Buffalo asked, “Please give me a Church on my Reserve for I want to live like the white people.” Cree Chief John Smith had a similar plea: “I want a teacher to learn the English language and to teach it to my children.”  C2C Journal

Misplaced Credibility

Operation Midland was launched in 2012 in Great Britain on the strength of shocking charges made by a man who divulged to detectives the purported abuse he had suffered as a child at military locations and apartments located close to Whitehall. A gang of pedophiles represented by trusted public figures in parliament had murdered three young boys in the 70s and 80s. This was a man whose name is Carl Beech, who named some of the people he accused of abusing him and other young people.

Edward Heath, a former Tory prime minister was among those named, along with Leon Brittan, a former Cabinet minister; former army chief Edwin Bramble; Maurice Oldfield, ex-head of MI6; Harvey Proctor M.P., along with other lawmakers and military figures of popular recognition. At the time that these accusations were being heard and recorded by police, they were given the stamp of believability, police speaking of them as "credible and true".

It might have been thought that the police would be somewhat less credulous at hearing pretty unbelievable narratives of child molestation by important public figures at the highest echelons of government and the military, but such was not the case. "He is a man who has done enormous damage to totally innocent people who have done him no harm at all. An evil man", said D-Day veteran, former general Hugh Beach, who was among those falsely accused.

Himself the son of a military family, he claimed his stepfather, a major, had repeatedly raped him. The claims extended to his step-father making him available to senior government and military figures to sexually abuse him as a boy. On military bases he along with other young boys suffered torture as well as sexual abuse, he claimed.

London's Metropolitan Police force evidently experienced no difficulty in giving their full support to the plethora of lies exuded by the man, launching the investigation that would ruin so many lives. Public figures held in admiration and trust suddenly found themselves considered demonic figures of child molestation, their reputations gone, their public positions evaporated, fighting for what they had so abruptly lost in the tide of public opinion led by the trusted police force.

Then it was discovered by detectives, years after he had engineered the chaotic shambles of respected men's lives, that this former pediatric nurse, school governor, hospital inspector was a hidden pedophile. He had claimed compensation of 22,000 pounds identifying himself as a child victim of the notorious Jimmy Savile the BBC entertainer who enjoyed years of predatory assaults on helpless children. Only after his death was it discovered that the popular, trusted and admired man had ruined vulnerable lives.

Beech's was not among them. Beech was a man who caused former cabinet minister Leon Brittan to die of cancer before it could be revealed that the charges against him were false. Even after his death in 2015 the investigation resulted in his home being raided. Eventually police were condemned for having immediately accepted the allegations against men of good repute that slandered them and shredded their reputations, giving credence where none was due.

Carl Beech was revealed to be a pedophile when child abuse images were discovered on his computer. He admitted to four counts of producing indecent images of children, one count of possessing indecent images, and one count of voyeurism. MP Harvey Proctor spoke of Operation Midland as "a truly disgraceful chapter in the history of British policing". The decision to rubber-stamp Beech's claims, to tarnish the reputations of leading politicians and military figures, to raid their homes, was indefensible.

Gloucestershire Police

It took five years to expose Beech now 51, as a shameless fantasist. Because of his blatant lies, 92-year-old Lord Bramall's home was raided by no fewer than twenty police officers. Once the head of the British army, the ignominy of child predator was pasted to his name, his home raided, his reputation raked through the muck of guilt and speculation.

MP Harvey Proctor was forced to stand in the House of Commons to reveal he had been accused of pedophilia, torture and that he had strangled a 12-year-old boy to death.

Sooner or later, intense sleuthing from any source looking to unearth the true, underlying intentions, impressions and beliefs of political operatives find what can only be classified as 'incriminating evidence' of beliefs and thought-processes that do betray the presence of prejudice and bigotry and plain old misinformed conclusions on the part of those running for public office or working behind the scenes to aid those politicians whose agendas they support by delving into the record -- often through the Internet, sometimes through otherwise-published commentary -- to dig up old statements.

Every party seems to attract the occasional presence of individuals with ideas, preconceptions and beliefs that are decidedly unsavoury and the revelations that those statements exhibiting their social and political positions identifying them as unsuitable for the position they hold, bring opprobrium to the party they belong to. Generally, any political party that discovers in their midst the presence of those with unacceptable ideological strains of illogic or discriminatory beliefs will make short shrift of distancing themselves.

The "independent investigation" undertaken by B'nai Brith Canada, a Jewish-Canadian group whose focus is on defending human rights and unearthing instances of public abuse against minority groups, in particular Jews, found commentary by Maxime Bernier's right-hand man and personal friend that offended the standards of equality and human rights. In a review of his work for a now-defunct online media outlet, Le Quebecois Libre, the views expressed by Martin Masse failed to pass the standard test of social decency.

His commentary on Israel and U.S. interventionism in the Middle East while defending notorious right-wing ideologues failed to sit well with B'nai Brith, leading them to publish a press release with links to over a dozen articles from the outlet, written by this man in which his prejudices were revealed. In response Messrs. Bernier and Masse speculated that an underlying political agenda motivated the human rights group to accuse Mr. Masse of deceit and bigotry; presumably that B'nai Brith was working to support the Conservative Party of Canada against the breakaway PPC.

B'nai Brith itself is in full denial, holding a "lengthy dossier" reflecting Mr. Masse's sentiments and comments apart from those linked and referred to in their media release. Mr. Masse's defence, for example published in 2002, of France's Jean-Marie Le Pen (since superceded by his more moderate daughter) a man who was convicted several times of denial of the Holocaust, a crime under French law, identifies Mr. Masse's sympathies as linked with those of Mr. Le Pen.

Writing on the same forum about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict his views, sympathetic to the Palestinians, accused Israel of co-opting Zionism as "just another fancy justification for killing and displacing Palestinians", a whopping libel if there ever was one. He accused countries of the West of interventions making the situation in the Middle East even more egregiously violent. The philosophy of libertarianism (the ideological bent of the Internet site he wrote on) should not mitigate toward a pro-Israel position, he averred.

A 2008 article he wrote decried "femi-fascists" in expressing opposition to forcing men-only drinking establishments in Quebec to relent and permit women entry, referring to women's gyms barring men representing a double standard. an absurd equation of unsupportable equivalency. He also characterized groups such as B'nai Brith back in 2000 as "ethnic barons" for which political power is a preoccupying concern. His character revealed by his own words.

Levity Strictly Forbidden

Most of those in the audience at Western University's Convocation where philanthropist Aubrey Dan was being honoured and received an honourary doctorate, found his statement amusing, and laughed in appreciation of his description of his youthful self at 19, deciding to attend the university and attributing it to an imagined pleasure of encountering at the institution female students of distinction and attractiveness. Don't most young men do just that? On the other hand, don't most young women reciprocate in kind?

Obviously, not in the universe we now occupy, driven by strident 'feminist' voices of disapproval disavowal and disappointment in nature's endowments of the genders. His light-hearted statement obviously inserted to lift the mood of an otherwise somewhat solemn occasion honouring his generosity over the years to his alma mater failed to please the discerning Johanna Weststar who herself has benefited enormously from this man's largess, and who chose to attribute to him disrespect for women.

Is she prepared to demand from the audience members individual apologies for having laughed at Mr. Dan's light assertion of self as naive teen?

No disrespect on her part, needless to say, for the sensibilities of the man who was so pleased and honoured to be recognized. This humourless gender martinet whose shrill accusations have tainted what was meant to be a recognition of generosity and appreciation felt it to be more important to humiliate both the man whose millions have made it possible for her to have an academic position and for the university to have a department wherein such an ingrate could practise her teaching skills.

Women who have devoted themselves to the bitter pill of recrimination, accusation and character assassination seem to glory in a kind of power structure they have built into a scaffold of puritanism that men find themselves defenceless against, for to deny a woman's claims of violation of stature, person or body, true or false, is to open oneself to a full-scale assault where hysteria rules and a witches' brew of allegations hold court.

Aubrey Dan's swift apology, knowing which way the social-contract wind was blowing was insufficiently humbling for Ms. Weststar's taste; she was out for blood and blood is what she demands. Nor did the university's knee-jerk apology suffice to soothe the Valkyrie in Ms. Weststar's psyche.
