In Retaliation
"This is in retaliation for Afghanistan and because (Prime Minister Stephen) Harper wants to send his troops to Iraq."
"So we are retaliating, the mujahedeen of this world. Canada's officially become one of our enemies by fighting and bombing us and creating a lot of terror in our countries and killing us and killing our innocents. So, just aiming to hit some soldiers just to show you that you're not even safe in your own land, and you gotta be careful."
"It's a disgrace you guys have forgotten God and you have let (sic) every indecency and things running your land."
"We don't, we don't go for this. We are good people, righteous people, believers of God and believing his law and his Prophets, peace be upon them all. That's my message to all of you in this inshallah, we'll not cease until you guys decide to be a peaceful country and stay to your own and I -- and stop going to other countries and stop occupying and killing the righteous of us who are trying to bring back religious law in our countries."
Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, Canadian citizen, righteous killer-jihadist
"Anyone who aided him, abetted him, counselled him, facilitated his crimes or conspired with him is also in our view a terrorist and where the evidence exists, we will charge them with terrorist offences."
"I've not seen a tempo and pace of (counter-terrorism) operations like this. It is an unprecedented alignment of our resources."
"People don't need to be afraid, people need to be engaged, people need to be aware. But make no mistake, it's a growing presence [Islamist jihad], not only in Canada but in our partner countries at a level that is challenging us all."
Bob Paulson, RCMP Commissioner
So the brief cellphone video produced by this man before he embarked on his jihadist spree, known to be in the hands of the RCMP and which motivated them decisively to label the attack killing Cpl. Nathan Cirillo at the National War Memorial, and Zehaf-Bibeau's sprint to the Parliament buildings in his personal pursuit of beheading Prime Minister Stephen Harper to send home definitively his message that Canadians must suffer as Muslims abroad do, for the unforgivable sin of helping innocent Muslims defend themselves against the terrorists in their midst, has been made public.
Proving without the equivocation so favoured by the Liberal and NDP party leaders, that this man whose mission preparations had alerted no one previous to the attack, was in fact an Islamist recruit to jihad, bent on terrorism. His none-too-sophisticated plan undertaken by a sole terrorist was hugely successful in once again alerting Canadians and Canadian authorities to the ever-present threat of those living among us as citizens who speak of 'your country', not their country to which they have no allegiance despite being born and reaching adulthood in Canada.
"It's not relevant to us or our investigation what kind of a terrorist Zehaf-Bibeau was, or if he was a particularly intelligent, sophisticated, influential or personally disciplined terrorist. To us it all turns on the evidence we collect which we compare against the statute. If Zehaf-Bibeau had not been killed but rather taken into custody, we would have charged him with terrorist offences. The RCMP believes on the evidence that Zehaf-Bibeau was a terrorist", stated RCMP Commissioner Paulson.
The man who had recently travelled from British Columbia to Ottawa where his mother works for the federal government, and who took the trouble to preview the venue of his planned attack through a tour of the Centre Block to orient himself to its layout before his planned intrusion, was not necessarily a mentally disturbed man, as his mother has repeatedly claimed. He was a man influenced by his paternal parentage, an avid recruit to Islamist jihad. And he died in a hail of bullets while attempting to extract maximum damage to Canada.
His October 22 attack at the National War Memorial killing a soldier, then his chase through the Hall of Honour where members of the Cabinet and the Prime Minister were meeting across the hall from the Liberal meeting, was where he ended his life, a righteous martyr in defense of Islam. He was found to have had a long knife tied to his wrist; obviously meant to be used in his vendetta against the Prime Minister, to behead him, as a true follower and disciple of Islamic State, their preferred method of execution.
When he arrived in Ottawa in early October Zehaf-Bibeau visited the Libyan embassy after his Canadian passport renewal had hit a roadblock due to insufficient documentation. His Libyan passport had expired as well, resulting from similar "discrepancies in his identification documents". People with whom he was in constant contact are being identified and investigated by the RCMP for possible connections to the October 22 events.
"This man's radicalization towards criminality and violence, it was a very slow burn and I think that as that began to intensify, people ought to have been concerned. People close to him -- both friends, ipeople that he ran across -- ought to have taken it upon themselves to say, 'This is getting to a point where we ought to do something'," Mr. Paulson commented. His fervent religiosity, fascination with extremism should have tipped someone off.
But the mother whose contact with her son was minimal and whose exposure to his latter purpose in life convinced herself he was no threat other than to himself by virtue of his diminishing responsibility, burdened, to her obvious way of thinking by mental instability.
