Chinese Diplomatic Intervention

Yes, these are official statements of the government of China. Above all, harmony must be preserved between people. China has of course exerted itself in matters of sovereignty relating to Tibet and to India. The sovereignty of Tibet is a foregone conclusion; non-existent. Because, of course, China insists that Tibet is part of China. Forget any fanciful notions of history, heritage, geography, language, religion, culture.

China has flooded Han Chinese into Tibet, and Tibet is no longer even notionally Tibet. The Dalai Lama is accused of the unforgivable; manufacturing dissent, ruthlessly causing disharmony. The people of Tibet think of China as their brutal occupier, an occupation aimed at cultural genocide. However, China likes to point out that it has generously liberated Tibetans from their 'serf-like' life, giving them Chinese citizenship.

The divisions between the State of Israel and the Palestinians go back to 1948; China's occupation of Tibet is a tad later; 1951. It obviously has not yet occurred to Israel to suggest it could mediate as a compassionate human relations gesture, between Tibet and China, to permit the Dalai Lama to return, and to give Tibet the autonomy it desires and deserves.

China, on the other hand, aspires to move onto the world stage of diplomacy, even while it is contesting India for a geography that India claims as its own and China covets, by surreptitiously placing a Chinese platoon miles into Indian territory, and refusing to decamp, even while New Delhi is demanding just that to ensure that relations between the two trading nations do not deteriorate further.

China gave its official recognition to the Palestinians in 1988, fully four years before it deigned to establish diplomatic ties with Israel, an established country whom the Palestinians vowed to destroy, thus causing a great deal of disharmony. And while China is hugely interested in consuming Israeli technology, agricultural practices, engineering, and availing itself of Israeli military hardware and services, it has a soft spot for Palestinian disharmony.

"I appreciate China's high position in the world nowadays", said Mahmoud Abbas in opening remarks between  his delegation and the Chinese in Beijing where he was invited for a high-level consultation to preface the one arranged two days later for Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
