 Advancing Defence

"The Arrow 3 interceptor was successfully launched and flew an exo-atmospheric trajectory through space, in accordance with the test plan. The successful test is a major milestone in the development of the Arrow 3 weapon system and provides further confidence in future Israeli defence capabilities to defeat the developing ballistic missile threat."

This announcement was made by news media through information from the State of Israel and the IDF in conjunction with their production-and-test partners, the United States military.  The Arrow 3 missile defence system represents the next generation defence system, a new defensive capability of sending an interceptor into outer space.

Defence is a necessary component to offence.  A counteracting principle. If there are exterior threats the affected country must allocate time and funding to the research and production of defensive systems to ensure its survival from attack. There appears to be little choice in the matter. Funding could be more usefully employed in social infrastructure to benefit a population.

When that population is under threat of annihilation there is little alternative but to use funding that would normally go toward education, health, scientific research, housing, agriculture, to protection instead. What is a clear necessity for Israel, surrounded by hostile neighbours and one in particular whose dedication to achieving nuclear-tipped missiles and the ballistics to deliver them, is a clear necessity for the United States, its ally.

For while the Islamic Republic of Iran has Israel in its clear destructive sights, an intention that it has long quite unequivocally expressed in public venues as an unequivocal threat of intended destruction, very similar threats are emitted by those who govern the Democratic Peoples' Republic of Korea. Is it not ironic that closed, fascist societies intent on mayhem are so enamoured of the word 'democratic'?

Just as Israel and the United States have formed a liaison of scientific research and production in advanced technology meant to interrupt and destroy the delivery of deadly missiles through attacks launched by those who proudly profess to be their enemies with clearly defined missions of destruction, so too have Iran and North Korea formed a scientific research and production alliance to benefit their intentions.

Israel had occasion to try out its Iron Dome protective anti-missile launchers when Hamas and Islamic Jihad launched their latest rocket attacks across the border into Israel from Gaza. Its success was also hailed as a support against attacks from both short- and long-range missiles. Now it is even more evident that Israel is required to guard against attacks coming from Lebanon and Syria, as well as Iran and Gaza.

Iran's Shahab ballistic missile is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead, with a range of 2,000 kilometres, placing both Israel and parts of Europe where the U.S. has military stations as well, in clear range. A senior Defence Ministry official with the IDF declared the Arrow 3 test to have been conducted with "100 percent success".

Encouraging; however, the system is roughly three years from becoming fully operational. And, it appears, North Korea is succeeding brilliantly in forging new advanced ballistics technology complementing Iran's, and its latest nuclear device produced a powerful detonation through miniaturized, more effective nuclear technology, pleasing partner Iran enormously.
