The Palestinian Authority warned Saturday of “chaos” in the West Bank in
response to the ongoing IDF operation in the Gaza Strip.
The warning came as Palestinians staged demonstrations in various parts of the West Bank in protest against the IDF offensive.
Many protesters carried Hamas’s green flags and chanted slogans calling on the Islamic movement’s armed wing, Izzadin Kassam Brigades, to “destroy Tel Aviv.”
In Ramallah, hundreds of demonstrators marched toward IDF soldiers stationed near Ofer Prison on the southern outskirts of the city.
At least seven protesters were injured, four of them seriously, when IDF soldiers fired rubber bullets and tear gas toward the crowd, eyewitnesses said.
Palestinians also clashed with IDF soldiers at the southern entrance to Nablus.
Three people were lightly injured, according to Palestinian sources.
Similar protests erupted in Bethlehem and Jenin.
A PA official in Ramallah said that the confrontations could lead to a state of “chaos” in the West Bank.
Holding Israel fully responsible for the escalation, the official warned that the PA could lose control over the situation if the Israeli “aggression” on the Gaza Strip continued.
