Narcissistic Hubris Unparalleled -- The Consummate Sanctimonious Exhibitionist
"I dressed up in an Aladdin costume and put makeup on. I shouldn't have done that. I should have known better, but I didn't, and I'm really sorry."
"It was something that I didn't think was racist at the time, but now I recognize, it was something racist to do. It was a dumb thing to do, I'm disappointed in myself, I'm pissed off at myself for having done it. I wish I hadn't done it, but I did it, and I apologize for it."
"When I was in high school I dressed up at a talent show and sang Day-O with makeup."
Prime Minister of Let's Pretend, Justin Trudeau
This is just Justin Trudeau being tolerantly inclusive -- of himself entitled to be hilariously entertaining. It is Justin Trudeau revealing his outlook on life where behaving in a louche manner is becomingly attractive because it is he who is the main actor, a man whose natural charm and effortless demeanor at chumminess is so ingratiating that there is nothing to forgive because he meant well and has such a good heart.
He most certainly is sincere when he avows regret. Not particularly for his conceited display of himself on stage, since the world is his stage and on it he is free to comport himself as he will, as he has proven on many occasions, some of which have elicited mea culpas and many of which have not. The egregiously unethical, unlawful lapses merit no apologies, the socially inappropriate, culturally immoral ones do evidently call for apologies that admit to insensitivity not necessarily on his part. The regret is the inconvenience caused, the disruption to his feel-good, look-good, approval rating.
How old must one be to be considered mature enough to know better? At age 20 he saw fit to preen his persona as an impresario of lighthearted entertainment, presenting himself as a 'romantic' persona flirting with the idea of himself as a racialized minority. At age 29, his penchant for dramatizing and sizzling entertainment not yet mature enough to recognize the overstepping of sensitive cultural issues to paint himself black, costuming himself for emphasis as a talented pretender.

Doffing the costume and the colour-enhanced features of his privileged upbringing and family fortune he would never face the kind of racial and cultural stereotypes foisted on those whose backgrounds and heritage he spoofed. He could simply revert to what good fortune bestowed upon him; prestige of a famous name, a handsome physiognomy and a private, privileged education and future. As a drama teacher, a snowboarding or table tennis instructor he found his metier.
This is a man whose obstruction of justice in the prosecution of SNC-Lavalin is a mere distraction, one that, however, the RCMP is investigating; one that in the event of his refusal to lift cabinet confidentiality for all witnesses will never see due completion. A man whose own wealth he alludes to with contempt for lifting him above the common fray which he finds so utterly regrettable. Not to be regretted, however, was his all-expenses-defrayed exotic family holiday trips to a private island getaway courtesy of a wealthy world religious leader.
Judgement was also on unfortunate display when in 2000 he groped a female reporter at age 28; surely an age when a male should be sensitive to the manner in which he demonstrates his 'respect' for women, but his apology though proffered came with an "If I ha known you were reporting for a national paper, I never would have been so forward", but he felt his action was not "in any way untoward". This from a man posing as a "feminist" demanding of others full respect for a woman's right to decide what she will do with her own body.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he wants to meet with NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh to offer a personal apology for posing in blackface. (Canadian Press) |
"Anytime we hear examples of brownface or blackface, it's making a mockery of what they live and what their lived experiences are."
"I think he needs to answer for it. Who is the real Mr. Trudeau? Is it the one behind closed doors, the one when the cameras are turned off that no one sees? Is that the real Mr. Trudeau? Because more and more, it seems like it is."
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh
