Moral Degenerates

Those sociopathic imbeciles seem to pop up where you least expect them to.  But then, criminal activities are sociopathic in nature.  And to ensure that those inclined toward committing those acts like battery, theft, criminal intimidation, home invasion, commercial crimes, we have law enforcement agencies to apprehend those miscreants.

And then there are the seriously troubled human beings, the psychopaths whose inability to connect to the empathetic strain most people are hard-wired for, gear them toward acts of true social iniquity. We expect to see them all, both categories and any and all in between, those who do harm to others and to the societies they inhabit within the seamy side of the law, the low-lifes, the sadists and the hard-core criminals who prey on others, living on the margins of society.

Though when it comes to white-collar crimes it isn't necessarily so.  Social standing, business acumen, trust and respect given some within society sometimes seem to lead them to believe their rapacious looting of the public weal will be forgiven.

We hardly, after all, expect to see atrocious behaviour of a mindlessly reprehensible character exhibited by those who in fact enforce the law.  Law enforcers have the general trust of society because they represent an arm of government at any level tasked to serve and to protect.  If we cannot trust our law enforcers then who can we trust?  A silly, rhetorical, often-posed question, of course.

But it's worth taking a second, hard look at the once most-trusted police association in Canada, the RCMP who, when they were still the North-West Mounted Police, most certainly would not have tolerated the kind of behaviour among their own that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police now seem to accept among some of their members with distressing regularity as increasingly stories of corruption and twisted values are brought to light.

Not bad enough that one member of the RCMP in a position of authority and trust abused both by preying on the women in his detachment, and when his conduct that included incidents of rape was brought to the attention of his superiors was simply transferred elsewhere.  And we thought that was a monopoly of a church hierarchy desperate to avoid scandal at the revelations of child-molesting priests.

Here's another hero of the RCMP revealed, a corporal who has worked from the Coquitlam detachment for decades, and close to retirement.  It is thought that he and one other member of the RCMP were habitues of Robert (Willie) Pickton's seamy bar operated on the farm property that attracted motorcycle gang members and, it would appear, the occasional off-duty police.

Photographs of Corporal Jim Brown have emerged that represent the man in violent pornographic scripts fully naked and priapic, inflicting atrocities on defenceless women whom he abducted and held captive.  His was a case-book study in sadomasochism.  And the cruncher was that he appears to have taken inspiration from the deadly atrocities ofWilly Pickton, mass murderer of Vancouver's Lower EastSide.

It has been revealed that his RCMP superiors have been fully knowledgeable about this RCMP officer's second life for several years.  "[RCMP] Legal Services deemed this to be off duty, non-criminal, adult consensual activity during which the individual was not representing himself as a member of the RCMP and thus did not appear to them to meet the threshhold for a code of Conduct violation".

So, then, everything's all right.  We have that explanation from RCMP Supt. Ray Bernoties.  What a relief.  Nothing to get upset and excited over obviously, because the RCMP hierarchy has just shrugged its metaphorical shoulder over this non-problem.  "While I agree the staged images are very graphic, they appear only on an adult site catering to those that seek them out.  Having said that, I am very concerned and frankly embarrassed that the RCMP would, in any way, be linked to photos of this nature."

Oh.  Well, we can't have the RCMP embarrassed.  And they were embarrassed because the photos were stored on a USB device, left in an office computer, discovered by other members of the RCMP.  "...the RCMP first learned of the graphic staged photos around December 2010.  This activity was investigated at that time and legal opinion sought.  In March 2012, the issue of the member's life style was again investigated.  Following that, Cpl. Brown's personal website was terminated."

His website, not his position with the RCMP.  Two years after discovery of his penchant for displaying himself stark naked but for his RCMP-issue boots and an aroused member which more than adequately spoke to "the issue of the member's life style".

It's difficult to come to terms with what is more outrageously unprofessional; the fact that some members of the Force have no personal integrity, no loyalty to the pledge they take when they become members of the RCMP, no concern over the welfare of others, little inclination to behave themselves in a manner that separates them from the criminal riffraff that they investigate and apprehend.

Or the fact that this man's obsession and twisted sex-cultish behaviour feeds a culture that leads to the acts of someone like serial killer Willy Pickton.  Law authority representative fostering a lifestyle injurious to society, giving it an aura of acceptability, encouraging dull-minded, psychotic-dangerous oafs to commit in actual reality what they see portrayed, because there's no harm in it.

That there was discussion during hearings of the Missing Women Commission of Inquiry recently concluded to reach a conclusion on police bungling in the investigation and arrest of Robert Pickton, of Cpl. Brown and his Internet activities is yet another dimension of incredulity at this situation.  He had brought forward a key Pickton informer for the Vancouver Police Department.

That informer had knowledge of activities, including murder that Pickton was involved with on his pig farm.  Information that was held in suspension for three years while Willy Pickton went on to commit additional murders on defenceless women that society and the police had little concern about.  There was that culture, after all, where it seemed perfectly fine to portray women being violently raped.

A member of the RCMP, whose activities were revealed and shrugged off by his superiors, embroidered the culture of disposable women and the sex thrills involved in disposing of them.
