Take Your Leave and Send Cash
Afghan President Hamid Karzai is fed up - again - with the presence of foreign troops in his country. He would like to see them depart as early as possible. Close the door, and never return. But make a large deposit of cash on the way out, and remember on your honour as a responsible nation to continue those large infusions of cash. And, by the way, thanks very much for the huge deposits made to date to the cause of Afghanistan's survival; both in the human sacrifice of foreign troops and of national treasuries.
"Painful experiences" such as have been revealed yet again with American soldiers utterly without human conscience, posing gleefully with the body parts of dead insurgents must be avoided at all costs. What can one expect from foreign soldiers, other than such despised conduct and the degradation of human remains belonging to people so unlike themselves?
What can be tolerated, because it more aptly reflects the condition of mind of Afghans themselves is that Afghan National Army personnel were also present at those disgusting photo opportunities. It is human nature, after all, to excuse the degrading excesses that one's own display, while professing righteous abhorrence at similar disgusting excesses performed by foreigners.
In human history family members who detest one another famously close ranks when any of their members is criticized or threatened by any outside source, irrespective of whether that outside source expresses values and concerns more agreeable than those of the despised family members.
"It is such a disgusting act to take photos with body parts and then share it with others", Mr. Karzai complained, calling the truly inexcusable behaviour "inhumane and provocative". A result of which the president has called for an "accelerated and full transition of security responsibilities to Afghan forces, so Afghanistan can take over its own destiny, and thus no such things can be repeated by the foreign forces in Afghanistan."
Right. Afghans who are dedicated to the overthrow of President Karzai's government will continue their bloody carnage, and the Afghan forces will be deployed in their growing numbers and foreign-troop-mentored professionalism to deflect those assaults. The blood and gore will then be completely Afghan-on-Afghan and that will make it all more palatable.
In the process of departure, the emphasis remains on the demands of continued and quite specific financial commitments. With the departure of western combat troops, it remains imperative that Afghanistan can continue to rely on the financial resources it feels it is entitled to, emanating from the same sources that have always provided them - and the military personnel that made it possible for him to govern.
