Incitement To Glory

"Canada to send 10 aircraft and 600 soldiers joining the crusade against the Muslims."
"TRUE CDN MUSLIMS Fulfill your duty of jihad in Canada."
"God willing sharia [Islamic law] will eventually be applied in the West ... in Canada. Islam will dominate the world."
"Canadians choose their policymakers. They then send their armies to kill Muslims. Allah has made it permissible to retaliate in a like manner. If you don't support your government, leave your country. Better yet, enter Islam and come to the Islamic State."
Abu Khalid Al Kanadi, October 7, Twitter

"We have learned through the current investigation that this individual [Michael Zehaf-Bibeau] has been in Ottawa since at least Oct.2nd, 2014, that he was in town to deal with a passport issue but that he was hoping to leave for Syria."
"According to some accounts, he was an individual who may have held extremist beliefs. [The RCMP did not possess information at that time [when he sought a Canadian passport] that would reveal any national security-related criminality."
"The investigation is ongoing and will rapidly determine if Zehaf-Bibeau received any support in the planning of his attack."
RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson

News has revealed that Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, a dual Libyan-Canadian citizen, born in Montreal, more latterly having lived in Calgary and Vancouver, was busy reading online posts of another Canadian jihadist, a convert to Islam who left Canada to fight for the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham, involved in propaganda efforts to turn more Canadians toward terrorism. The online incitement posted on Twitter has consumed the attention of many, Zehaf-Bibeau among them.

And it certainly does appear that he was impressed by the messages (as above), from Al Kanadi. He did attempt to secure a passport to enable him to travel to Syria, but it was denied him. So he proceeded to the next option that represented for him the "Better yet" option, and embarked on a mission toward the National War Monument and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier where, fittingly, a few young reservists had been placed on honour duty and one would lose his life upholding that honour.

Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, in murdering Cpl. Nathan Cirillo by shooting him in the back, assumed that he was then the honoured one, a shaheed, a martyr for Islam, and he then expeditiously turned and swiftly made off for the halls of Parliament where he planned to heap honour upon honour on his emerging reputation. With the death of a Canadian soldier at his hands, all that was missing was the death of a Canadian parliamentary representative or more, as urged by his mentor-at-large.

He would be the instrument of Allah, as he saw it, to begin the process to help install "Islamic law ... in Canada". Although Canadian authorities are tight-lipped, it would appear that U.S. law enforcement is far less so, particularly when it comes to intelligence relating to another country, one of the "Five-Eyes" coalition, moreover. And it was revealed by CNN through those sources that Zehaf-Bibeau had ties to a few Canadian jihadists, Hasibullah Yusufzai among them.

For the Burnaby, B.C. man charged with terrorism for joining armed Islam in Syria, as for Zehaf-Bibeau, Burnaby's Masjid al-Salaam was the mosque that both men attended. In his posts online Al-Kanadi wrote he felt it within the realm of acceptability in his brand of Islam to murder his own family members as non-Muslims. On social media site Ask.fm he wrote of his parents' state when they became aware of his intentions; they "reacted mainly with confusion, not understanding why someone would leave Canada to go to a land of war".

Although he writes copiously of the glory and pleasures awaiting those who join him and others in their Islamist fanaticism, slaughtering, plundering, raping, spreading terror wherever they loom on the horizon, he cautions others who have not yet fled liberal democracy for freedom to murder at will, that they maintain a low profile lest they be scented and detained. As for those Muslims who prefer not to descend into barbarity: "Terrorism is a commandment from Allah", he reminds them.
