Another Failed Exploit
"The exhortations, quite direct exhortations, were coming from an Australian, who is apparently quite senior in ISIL, to networks of support back in Australia to conduct demonstration killings here in this country."
"So this is not just suspicion, this is intent and that's why the police and security agencies decided to act in the way they have."
Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott
Raids in the pre-dawn taking place across Sydney and Brisbane on Thursday propelled the arrest of 15 individuals along with a paltry handful of weaponry claimed by authorities to be planned for use in a plot meant to "shock, horrify and terrorize", the Australian community in which these groups have made themselves completely comfortable. Intelligence received that a senior figure in the Islamic State had been busying himself directing operatives to perform "demonstration killings" alerted police
Intercepted telephone communication identified the men arrested as discussing the exploit potential in kidnapping random strangers off public streets with a plan to film their beheading, to be posted on social media. An original plot it no longer is, since beheading as a method of fanatical psychotic game-playing has already been carried forward from American journalist Daniel Pearl onward. Perhaps not yet, however, on Australian soil. The shock factor certainly is there.
Look at the attention it would gain the exploiters of such an opportunity. Think of the global coverage that the hacking murder of British soldier Lee Rigby earned to the greater glory of Islamism. The Islamic State is about covering itself with the glory of reprehensible acts of brutality, to be more feared and abhorred than any other such group claiming for themselves the title of super-psychos with the support and encouragement of the Almighty.
