On Sunday at a Jewish National Fund (JNF) annual gala dinner in Toronto, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced his first trip to Israel, and then abruptly proceeded to sing several classic songs, reports the Toronto Star.

Harper's musical medley began with The Who’s “The Seeker," continued on to The Beatles' "Hey Jude," Buddy Holly's "Oh Boy" and Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline."

Regarding his upcoming trip to Israel in January 2014, Harper's office released a statement that reads “I look forward to visiting the Middle East early next year to explore ways of strengthening peace and security, stimulating sustainable economic growth, and promoting essential Canadian values, such as tolerance and human rights, across the region."

Meanwhile anti-Israeli protesters demonstrated outside of the JNF event, attacking what they call Israel's "apartheid policies."

Harper has been a staunch supporter of Israel since taking office in 2006, standing with Israel during the Second Lebanon War that year and during Operation Cast Lead in 2009.

Canada has stated recently that it will not lift sanctions on Iran until the Islamic regime proves it is holding up its part of the nuclear deal reached in Geneva. In doing so Canada aligns itself with Israeli criticism of the Iran deal.
