Persuading Deaf Ears
It only seems that they're coming out of the woodwork at every turn. Turn over a rock of terror and there, squirming beneath, lies a nest of Canadian-passported terrorists. The passport and the reputation that accompanies it of which Canadians are so proud has been, of late particularly, tainted. Which will not necessarily result in most Canadians' passports being more carefully scrutinized by foreign immigration agents.Only if they present as possibly compromised folk of a certain appearance and certainly of a particular religious devotion.
Ethnic profiling has an obvious relationship to that old adage that where there's smoke there's fire. Most unfortunate for those countless people of innocent intent and demeanor who are dreadfully discommoded. The alternative may be dreadful instances of carnage resulting from lack of due diligence permitting the committed signers-on to violent jihad to proceed as their devious and destructive plans motivate them, to commit murder and mayhem.
Who might have suspected that a middle-aged woman of Iranian origin claiming refugee status in Canada two decades ago might really be a plant with sinister intentions? Out with the theories of burly, bearded young men of Middle East origin setting out to disturb the peace and serenity of the infidels who embark on military missions abroad with the intention of cultivating the assets of Muslim states, while preying on the people whose devotion to Islam leaves them undefended as peace-minded victims.
Unidentified with respect to name, now in her 50s, the Iranian woman with the Canadian passport, given asylum in Canada and eventually citizenship, succumbed to the call of Islamist terrorism. Bulgarian officials, alert to the penetration of their borders by Hezbollah-affiliated jihadists, noted her keen interest in Jewish sites, in the wake of a bus bombing that killed five Israeli tourists and a local Bulgarian bus driver.
The woman's interest in scoping out the Chabad centre in Sofia, and the synagogue within it, aroused the interest of Bulgarian security. Arrested, she is considered to be "an Iranian-sponsored female agent". She followed in the footsteps, as it were, of the Canadian-passported organizer of the deadly bus bombing, a man who emigrated with his family as a child, to Canada, then returned to Lebanon to live there, and align himself with the Iranian militia proxy Hezbollah, listed by Canada on its terrorist file.
"Canada is committed to fighting global terrorism and to holding perpetrators of terrorism -- and those who provide them support -- accountable for their actions. We urge the European Union and all partners who have not already done so to list Hezbollah as a terrorist entity and prosecute terrorist acts committed by this inhumane organization to the fullest possible extent.
"Preventing and countering violent extremism is a priority for Canada. We will not tolerate terrorist activity or those who support terrorist activity, at home or abroad", commented a Foreign Affairs spokesperson.
And the solution is -- what?
Canada -- on guard for thee.
