Egypt’s opposition says Mursi responsible for violence

Egypt’s opposition National Salvation Front said on Friday that it condemns all kinds of violence, as it called for a meeting on Saturday to discuss the latest developments that followed tense clashes between protesters and police on the day.

The Front released a statement stressing that it has no relation whatsoever to the actions of violence and disorder which suddenly broke out in front of the President Mohamed Mursi’s palace in Cairo.

The Front also called on the security forces protecting the palace to unveil those who were truly responsible for those actions.

The statement said “Mursi and his Muslim Brotherhood bear the responsibility behind the tension prevailing in Egypt during the last two months.”

“This tension is because of the Brotherhood's insistence on ignoring the legitimate demands of most Egyptians which call for forming a national salvation government, forming a committee to modify the constitution’s articles written by the Muslim Brotherhood and their allies, relieving the Attorney General of his post, establishing a fact-checking committee to investigate violent acts which started on Jan. 25 in many Egyptian cities, and legalizing the status of the Brotherhood which is working in Egypt without any legal basis.”

On the other hand, Egypt’s Youth 6 April Movement said it rejects a report released by the country’s presidential office calling political factions to condemn violent protesters and stop providing them with a political cover.

The movement announced on its official Twitter account that “it withdrew from the presidential palace when the clashes started and has nothing to do with what is going on there,” reported Ahram Online
