Deporting Foreign Criminals

"At the end of the day, we've produced a long list of serious convicted foreign criminals who have gone on to reoffend, to commit new crimes and create new victims in Canada, which I think is intolerable.
"In principle, when a serious foreign criminal is done his sentence, he should go directly from the prison to the airport and never be released on Canadian streets."
Canada's Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister, Jason Kenney

Canada has approved the enactment of another bill that revolves around immigration. One that is meant to fast-track the deportation of foreign criminals.  People who enter Canada to become permanent residents and who commit violent crime here.  Those who make application to come to Canada as prospective permanent residents will not be granted entry to the country if they have a criminal record in the country they are departing.

Should criminals from another country enter Canada without divulging their criminal record, and a background check has not initially revealed such a criminal record, but it is discovered at a later date after the individual has been granted entry, they will be rejected.  Should discovery be made of a false declaration at the time of admission to Canada, and a permanent resident has become a citizen of Canada, that citizenship can be revoked.

But the problem of seeing that those who have committed crimes in Canada and are to be deported to their country of origin, invoking their rights under Canadian law to challenge their removal, and remain for years afterward, while pulling legal strings, is another issue that had to be addressed.  The Faster Removal of Foreign Criminals Act, where Members of Parliament voted 149 - 130 in favour of the bill, passed simply because this is a majority Conservative government; no members of the opposition supported the bill.

It will now become simpler to remove foreigners whose criminal acts have resulted in their detention in prison for longer than six months (indictable offence, federal prison) for crimes committed in this country to be deported once they have served their terms. They will be unable to appeal a removal order. Serious foreign offenders no longer will be able to delay deportation through the filing of humanitarian or compassionate appeals.

Do the crime, pay the time, and summarily depart.
