Politic?

This is a blog dedicated to a personal interpretation of political news of the day. I attempt to be as knowledgeable as possible before commenting and committing my thoughts to a day's communication.

Who Needs Wikileaks?

"From his first days in office, [Obama] was deep into every step in slowing the Iranian program - the diplomacy, the sanctions, every major decision.  And it's safe to say that whatever other activity might have been under way was no exception to that rule."  Senior unnamed U.S. administration official

So, then, from that oblique boast/admission, it can logically be taken that it might not, after all, have been Israel (alone) behind the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists, the mysterious explosions at military bases, and the other peculiarly sinister occurrences that seemed to defy explanation, but were most certainly geared to vex and infuriate the Islamic Republic of Iran...?

Is this wise?  To indulge in covert activities of the highest priorities, and secret order in an effort to destroy or impede an enemy from reaching a stated goal meant to imperil the world community?  Thus giving that enemy both ammunition in the moral sphere of denial, along with a warning of exactly whom it is they must be wary of, and prepare themselves to thwart by any and all means possible?

Top-level, highly secret data has somehow wormed its way out of the corridors of power onto the front pages of the news media, into newly-published tell-all insider-derived-information books.  For the purpose, is seems clear, of scoring points on the political front during an election year.  In practise and in purpose, the administration seems to have reverted from being a staunch ally of a long-time friendly nation, to becoming a cool, standoffish sparring partner; a reality that might cost the incumbent votes.

Is this what has guided the cleverly conspiring heads that devote their working lives to advising the President of the United States what steps to take in an effort to preserve his wobbling administration?  Leaked information with no attribution, but claiming to have been sourced through elite and knowledgeable insiders draw a picture of an extremely proactive, involved president who delegates himself to the task of seeing all, managing everything, making the final decisions.

While it might seem more prudent that cool heads prevail, that discreet disclosures be at a minimum; the most discreet few-to-no revelations of note be the order of sober government.  Failing that, discrete disclosures of a nature that can be released to do no harm.  Questions need not necessarily be responded to.  The more closed-mouth authorities are about issues that require silence, the better for all concerned.

Not, however, at this time in the political life of the United States.  Where the Commander-in-Chief sees value in portraying himself as just that; someone in complete control.  Revealing that the mysteriously-sourced cyber-weapons that have been successful in temporarily at least stymying the malign efforts of an enemy-state were a collaboration between the U.S. and Israel.

Done so with the recruitment of volunteers from that enemy-state: "The United States and Israel would have to rely on engineers, maintenance workers and others - both spies and unwitting accomplices - with physical access to the plant", thereby gifting the Republic of Iran with knowledge that would impel it to become far more cautious and reactive, perhaps doing irreparable harm to those who were recruited in the process.

The strained relations with Pakistan, an irascible, unreliable, corrupt government leading a country that has possession of nuclear weapons, whose infiltration by Islamist terrorists is rampant and geographically unsettling, is further complicated by the unneeded yet prideful admission that those drone strikes taking out senior Taliban figures and other Islamist leaders are guided by the President of the United States.

Paradoxically, the United States has seen its primary, most secret government sites, including the Pentagon, fall victim to malware strikes probing the inner secrets of the government itself at every level of espionage opportunities.  Can they cry foul, citing the Chinese authorities for interfering with American sovereignty and state secrets in an atmosphere of political and social conflict when they themselves admit to indulging similarly?
