Non-Judgementally, of Course
The Internet certainly has altered life as we knew it. There are, in fact, many things we would preferably be far better off not knowing. But there it is, new opportunities and advances in communication on the march and impossible to stop. New data collected by a website that specializes in aiding infidelity has now labelled Ottawa the most "cheater-friendly" city in Canada.Out of a population of about a million people in the greater amalgamated Ottawa, 37,800 have chosen to sign up as members with AshleyMadison.com. This is a website that enables people looking for illicit sexual intimacy to link up with others of like mind. It occurred to its CEO to have his employees collect data to determine the percentage of neighbourhoods harbouring the greatest number of infidelity-prone individuals.
"We have found that the more affluent neighbourhoods do tend to rank higher on our lists", claims CEO Noel Biderman. Evidently social scientists are fascinated by this unorthodox method of looking into human behaviour patterns. Business-successful women who are independent seem additionally to seek opportunities to pursue affairs.
The profile of a "typical cheating mom" that came out of the numbers-crunching indulged in by the website reveals a median age of 31, five years' average of married life, with a daughter under two years of age. "Is it the neighbourhood that provokes the pattern, or is it the personality types in the neighbourhood? That's the nature-nurture question", quips Mr. Biderman.
That a website like Ashley Madison is seen to have a serious societal purpose by people seeking additional stimulation in their lives is a testament to the miserable values some people cling to. That it operates in 22 countries in North and South America, Europe and Australia, is testament to the fact that no country, no nation, no culture is immune from this kind of vapid immaturity.
Of women who use this website's services, 69% are women who are mothers, with 74% having at least one daughter, 39% having at least one son. The mothers of single children assumed to be more likely (logically) to use the service than woman with more than one child. About 38% of users are female; with 22% of those looking for an affair unmarried.
And disproving that old dictum that the older we become the wiser too, the website boasts 8,000 members over 70 in Canada, all of them male. Male-female ratio is almost 1:1 between 20 and 30, but 2:1 for those in their 40s, and 5:1 for those in their 50s.
Speaking for quite a number of socially uninhibited, emotionally immature, values-deficient men and women. Just saying.
