Russia's Neighbour

There you go, the Washington administration has pulled out all the stops, denying it had any involvement whatever in this latest assassination of an Iranian nuclear scientist. Not they. Of course some other entity, and which of them would be the most likely to represent the reprehensible culprit that took such gruesomely final steps to slow down what might conceivably be thought of as a program to bring utter annihilation to itself, other than Israel?

For their pains, and for the characterization of U.S. President Barack Obama of that spectacularly successful covert event - that would have required such a painstaking degree of activity fundamental to ascertaining all the required details to identifying the next in line to represent a warning to the Islamic Republic - as representing an event to be condemned, Iran has now identified the CIA as the assassin.

Other intelligence agencies think otherwise. The Mossad does not limit itself to the occasional well-planned and split-timed assassination. It is also in the intelligence-gathering business. It is as well in the business of expertly persuading uncertain individuals to be certain - to dedicate themselves to covert underground activities in concert with Israel's needs - and their own by coincidence.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's denial of American involvement notwithstanding, President Obama's condemnation of the assassination aside, Iran has decided to bypass the Mossad and give credit to the CIA. "We have reliable documents and evidence that this terrorist act was planned, guided and supported by the CIA..."

And Britain for good measure. MI6 is responsible as well. Well, isn't that something? Good for them. All need now look out for flying missiles. Eventually, nuclear-tipped warheads, on missiles engineered to speed faster, further, more furiously, to avenge the honour of the Islamic Republic of Iran. And lest Israel, the United States and Britain think otherwise, Iran has friends.

Forget Venezuela and North Korea. Think Russia. Russia will not stand for the West bullying poor Iran. "Iran is our neighbour. And if Iran is involved in any military action, it's a direct threat to our security", warned Dmitry Rogozin, Russia's departing NATO ambassador. What any other self-respecting country can own for itself, so too can Iran.

Forewarned is forearmed. Not so? The world will never be ready for World War III. Will it?
