Another Victory for Hamas! (et al)

No sooner had the flood of exultant shopaholics from Gaza, scrambling over the Hamas-destroyed wall separating Gaza from Egypt, been enabled to shop to their hearts' content, than Hamas representatives in terror availed themselves of the opportunity to slip through to indulge in a hoped-for orgy of what they themselves most appreciate and aspire to perfect.

Nothing like overwhelming the official custodians put in place for the specific purpose of ensuring that unwarranted entries be averted into the boundaries of a secure and sovereign country which would far rather, thank you very much, exclude deadly trouble-makers than encourage them. Nothing like creating a sizzling diversion through the creation of a shopping-mad crowd to divert attention from forbidden access.

But this was long in the planning, where stealthy night-time excursions enabling the terror contingent to apply the persuasion of acetylene torches to otherwise-unyielding metal barriers finally resulted in their smashing through the barriers in an orchestrated assault months later, at a most auspicious time.

A time when the beleaguered and frantic Gazans, agitated over the Israeli response to Hamas and Fatah militias rocket-firing over Israel's borders, closed passage to goods and services and threatened to diminish their energy supplies. Voila! Don't like being imprisoned within your very own territory? fine; we'll simply demolish all physical constraints...!

So, friends and neighbours, and avid supporters, shop to your hearts' delight, never mind the frustrations of Egyptian authority, your Egyptian brethren love your money - all $800,000 of it - and will make strenuous efforts to supply all that your hearts desire, from grains, oil, livestock, televisions, motorbikes and all else you wish. State it and it shall be yours - and the price is right.

"Let the people shop" proclaimed Hosni Mubarak, for what else could he do and say under the teeth-gritting circumstances? And each and every time Egyptian soldiers attempted to restore the barrier, there was Hamas, confronting and threatening them. And Egypt cringed, its president fearful of the unneeded, unwanted, unsecured presence of Hamas, offshoot and brethren of the feared and detested Muslim Brotherhood.

Consequences, there are always consequences. First a Fatah-affiliated suicidist who blew himself delusionally to smithereens, succeeding in killing a 73-year-old Israeli woman in a market, severely injuring her 74-year-old husband. And thus was born yet another triumph for Hamas and Friends. The office of Mahmoud Abbas was quick to denounce the dastardly act. Gazans danced in the streets with joy, and handed out sweets.

The IDF was quick to respond, searching out Hamas terrorists, targeting and removing them from business as usual. The office of Mahmoud Abbas was quick to denounce the dastardly act. And Palestinian Authority attackers stepped up their assaults on Israeli motorists. Throwing rocks at cars, demonstrating their anger and contempt for Jews; in one instance wounding an Israeli Arab whose eyes were infused with glass shards from his shattered windshield.

Israeli buses pelted with stones. Fatah members determined to create as much terror and upheaval amongst citizens of Israel as possible, wreaking their bloody revenge. Chairman Mahmoud Abbas denounces their actions. Chairman Mahmoud Abbas denounces Israeli counter-terrorism defensive actions resulting from responses to protect their citizens.

Al Aksa Martyrs Brigades, Hamas, United Resistance Brigades, the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades, fall all over one another in their feverish anxiety to claim credit for assaults against Israeli citizens. "We succeeded to carry out the attack today and we take responsibility for it!" they chime triumphantly. The office of the PA chairman denounces their dastardly acts.

Gazan terrorists associated with the Palestinian Authority launched rockets again at the Negev city of Sderot, hitting two factories. None injured; a number of residents treated for psychological trauma. The Popular Resistance Committees and the al-Mujahideen Brigades claim responsibility, proudly. Mahmoud Abbas denounces these provocations.

The Palestinian Authority's own news agency publicizes a statement by the PRC insisting the Kassam attacks represent "a response to the assassination" of one of their senior members, targeted and dispatched by the IDF in northern Gaza, in response to the latest Kassam rocket attacks.

The office of the PA Chairman expresses its deep regret for these illegal acts. The PRC promises a continuation of rocket firing at Jewish targets.

On cue, at least four additional rockets were fired on Sderot. General Security Service in Israel and the IDF have issued nine specific alerts of planned terrorist attacks, and no fewer than 50 general security alerts have been issued in the wake of the Dimona bombing attack.
A step-up of checkpoints on roads, patrols and street police presence reflect the raised status of a country-wide alert.

IDF forces, Israeli police and border guards are on the alert for the inevitable infiltrations into southern Israel resulting from Gaza's monumental shopping spree.
