Not Just About Eve, But Justin Too

Eve Adams and Justin Trudeau put on a particularly shameless performance on Monday as Adams left the Conservatives for Trudeau's Liberals.
THE CANADIAN PRESS/Justin Tang   Eve Adams and Justin Trudeau put on a particularly shameless performance on Monday as Adams left the Conservatives for Trudeau's Liberals.

"I just find the whole thing preposterous. I mean, that a Harper Tory from Mississauga all of a sudden is going to run here in the middle of Toronto with no connections and no awareness?"
"You know, it's a real insult to the local Liberals in this community."
"Over my dead body."
MPP Mike Colle, Eglinton-Lawrence riding

Well, we can't have dead bodies littering the political arena. Another one of Liberal leader Justin Trudeau's obviously well-thought-out little surprises. A potential candidate whose background should be toxic to the Liberal party, suddenly looking very attractive, despite the baggage she brings with her of unbridled ambition linked with a super-ego, a long-time Conservative where the party values were her own, but where her dedication to self-advancement superceded the political party's electoral fortunes.

It's her love match with another one-time stalwart of the Conservative Party within the inner circle, a man intimately involved with the fortunes and the electoral success of the Prime Minister to whom Eve Adams is engaged and who has sworn undying devotion to his love, transferring his allegiance from cold analysis to warm emotions that tickles the fancy of Justin Trudeau. That it just might be feasible that Dimitri Soudas can be convinced to shed whatever residual loyalty he retains in favour of spilling confidentialities to the Liberal Party.

Politics really is such a dog-eat-dog, wretched game of conquest. Justin Trudeau has engaged in some pretty clumsily stupid enterprises from time to time, from cutting the umbilical cord of the Senate's Liberals, to professing the sympathy of understanding what leads to terrorism, to admiration of China's administration of its vast population, to hedging his bets on Quebec separation, let alone cutting loose two of his MPs on suspicion of sexual improprieties; judge and jury.

But this latest, unabashed willingness to welcome an MP whose narcissitic streak is so self-compelling that she will engage in the most egregiously unethical conduct to advance her cause, in the process influencing a man with the confidence of the Prime Minister to abandon his ethics to her enablement leading to his dismissal, speaks volumes about Justin Trudeau's own capacity to judge what's in his party's best interests.

Certainly not ushering in someone who while conspiring with him to cross the floor in the House of Commons to the opposition, acted out the loyal government spokesperson during Question Period, and voting faithfully along party lines repeatedly. Then as suddenly as she crossed the floor, the Conservative values became those she could no longer accept as her own, and the values espoused by the Liberal party (by and large very similar to the Conservatives) suddenly appealed.

Because, she believes, she has a better chance of being elected under the Liberal flag than the Conservatives, since she was advised she would no longer be given the opportunity to run again as a Conservative, given her past behaviour. "I informed her in writing on January 29th that she would not be permitted to run for our party in the next election due to the misconduct from the Oakville North-Burlington nomination race" explained Conservativeparty president John Walsh.

So sad. For Eve Adams' parliamentary ambitions, that is. Since the Liberal Party faithful don't appear too terribly thrilled at this new boondoggle that their incapable leader has indulged in, yet again. This Eve offered a poisoned apple to two men who found the offer irresistible.
