Politic?

This is a blog dedicated to a personal interpretation of political news of the day. I attempt to be as knowledgeable as possible before commenting and committing my thoughts to a day's communication.

Apology Considered

It's hard to get past the visual display of foppish egocentricity so evident in the appearance of Justin Trudeau. Not a very kind admission on my part, but there it is. The man is simply too precious. And his self-regard is so evident that it is cloyingly annoying. He obviously considers himself an intelligent human being, but he seems to be mired in his own opinion of himself as 'son-of', and it is tiresome.

He is not his father, although he is his father's son. One of them, in any event. The one that is socially, politically, personally obnoxious. He believes the political arena is where he should be. And it seems fairly obvious too, that he is grooming himself for a much larger role within that arena and in Canada's future. Heaven forfend. He has a lot of growing up to accomplish. For those who harbour fond memories of his father he may appear as though he has promise.

His antics appear, on the other hand, more likely to eventually estrange any intelligent voters from continuing to support his personal ambitions. On the other hand, one would hesitate to recommend that he return to his former vocation; schoolchildren deserve better than that, though they rarely, in real life, receive better than that.

Justin Trudeau apologizes for swearing following question period in the House of Commons on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011. (Sean Kilpatrick, The Canadian Press)

His juvenile acting-out in Question Period represented an event that drew attention to what can only be considered his lack of social and political maturity. It is not the least bit reminiscent of his father; it is, however, akin to the manner in which an ill-disciplined, self-entitled egotist might think he could get away with. A most unimpressive performance, but seemingly not out of character entirely.

An apology was unavoidable, and it was delivered. By all accounts in a manner that was exaggeratedly servile. A sad performance, overall. Now, if some kind, pitying soul could persuade him to shave off that absurd, comical facial hair, at least a visual improvement could be undertaken... And then brush up his vocabulary a little.
