Fundamentally Despicable; For Shame!
Who knew that Bob Rae, the politico who has really been around the block provincially and federally, was suffering a seriously advanced state of terminal stupidity? Now, alas, we have the proof positive.
What else can one say about a man who premiered the Province of Ontario (disastrously), re-invented himself as a federal politician aspiring to lead the Liberal Party of Canada to be himself enthroned as the prime minister of this country, and then finds common cause with a foreign country whose record of note is domination by oil-rich princelings.
On a 'personal visit' to the Middle East, he decided not to waste any opportunities to ingratiate himself with "baffled" (as in hurt feeling: what did we do?) United Arab Emirates government officials.
He could have stayed in Ottawa and visited the UAE embassy and commiserated with the Ambassador to Canada about Canada's brutal treatment of an oil-rich Middle East state that is known to generously fund terrorists, and whose business with Iran can be seen in live colour with that country's fleet sitting in a UAE harbour.
There is that about the Liberal Party which simply cannot envision itself as a wheezing old political party with failure writ large over its past performances of late, that it sees merit in slagging Canada and the current Conservative-led government while abroad.
The estimable Leader of the Official Opposition (Her Majesty's loyal opposition no less) saw fit to muse on Canada's unsuitability under the leadership of Prime Minister Stephen Harper to be elected to the revolving Security Council.
Bearing in mind that the UAW with its nose freshly out of kilter with Canada's official refusal to allow Emirates and Etihad Airlines daily flights in and out of Canada as requested rather than the insufficient-to-their-economic-plans three-times weekly flights flexed its diplomatic muscle among the Arab and Muslim and Latin American delegates to the United Nations to ensure that Canada would lose the vote against tiny, recession-suffering Portugal for a Security Council seat.
So Bob Rae, standing in the Middle East and declaiming that in his considered opinion Canada must diligently work to repair shattered relations with the UAE simply extends the agenda a little further. The UAE's odious, vicious bullying pique that Canada stubbornly exerted its sovereignty over its plans to take advantage of the greater seating capacity of the more capacious aircraft they have bought to expand their international passenger cartage saw it behaving atrociously in response.
The velvet gloves were cast aside as a chain-mail glove was drawn into place, one that imperiously refused to permit Canada's Minister of Defence and our Chief of the Defence Staff entry to UAE airspace while en route to "Camp Mirage". As for Camp Mirage, like the proverbial desert kingdom mirages, it was made to disappear, to melt into history.
While no fee had been extracted for Canada's use of the area as a landing and take-off staging area, UAE's accommodation of Canada's military needs in Afghanistan benefited the UAE.
The very same terrorist forces that threaten the West will also turn to threaten the oil-rich kingdoms of the Middle East in due course unless they are stopped.
It is not Saudi Arabia, which is directly threatened by al-Qaeda (and which state continues to fund terrorism and the madrasses which churn out jihadist material) and its UAE oil-rich partners that are expending great sums of their treasury but NATO forces to protect the area from complete anarchic-terror collapse.
That Bob Rae and the Liberal Party of Canada for their very own partisan purposes have seen fit to find common cause with the UAE, setting aside their loyalty to Canada is beyond deplorable. Those two words, for shame, were never put to better use.
