Only A Sadistic Brute?

Clearly, an early induction into the mysteries of religious belief in Islam, where Koranic precepts are carefully parsed, and the indoctrination of jihad can never start too early, produces mixed results. There are the mild-mannered, quiescent and moderate-minded faithful who do not look for reasons within the ancient sacred writings to separate themselves from others not of the faith, nor for reasons to disdain their different religious beliefs, nor for validation of violent jihad.

They may vastly outnumber those within Islam whose interpretation agrees very well with the Islam of its Bedouin origins, a tribal culture brutal in its blood-letting of incessant inter-tribal warfare and jealous vindictiveness in the constant maneuvering to conquer land rights and fierce reputations as warriors upholding tribal honour. And where women are possessions to be closeted away in private places for the delectation of their owners. The trouble with that scenario is that even a finite number of exemplars of ancient violent jihad is too many.

It's all very nice for a smiley-faced Awso Peshdary that the investigative authorities were unable to find evidence so assiduously sought to implicate him within the cabal of those recently arrested on suspicion of planning violence against Canadians in Afghanistan and within Canada itself. Hiva Alizadeh, Misbahuddin Ahmed and Khurram Syed Sher have been placed in custody removing them from any continuation of their planning attacks against their non-Muslim peers among whom they have lived throughout their lives.

Awso Peshdary, thus far, has illustrated, although he has been for the moment cleared of terrorist activities, that he is a child of tribal Islam. Solemnly dedicated to his father's version of fundamentalist Islam, he precociously sought the sanctioned companionship of a woman - whose passion for Islam might match his own, who would dedicate her life to his desires and raise his children - resulted in a quite early stage in his life as an adult, in success. At 20 years of age he is married, with a very young child; a nice accomplishment rewarding his search.

It is, then, rather ironic that despite his suspected collaboration with at least one of the others now incarcerated for suspected terrorist activities, and his quite traceable embrace of the 'honour-culture' held so dear to many fanatic Muslims, he has been able to escape, through lack of defining intelligence, accusations of planning for violent jihad. Instead, he has been revealed to be a brute, assaulting his wife, and threatening to take her life. This, on two occasions, when authorities were alerted to the danger he posed to the safety of the woman who had pledged herself to him.

It seems that her parents, in arranging this seemingly-propitious extension of their family in accepting him as a son-in-law, were insufficiently diligent in exploring the state of mind of this man and his background. Exposing their daughter and her child to the potential of great bodily harm. This is no mere speculation, since as part of the conditions of his release from custody, Mr. Peshdary has been ordered to have no communication with his wife or 5-month-old child, nor four members of his wife's family, and in particular her mother.

He is forbidden by law to"attend within 500 metres of his wife's place of employment, residence and worship". There is a "safety plan" established for this man's wife, inclusive of a publication ban on her identity. Mr. Peshdary must now live with his sister and his father, both of whom appear to be quite radical in their view of Islam, to the point of presenting a danger to any other Muslims with whom they may come in direct contact, infecting them with their brand of fanaticism.

As further indication in the judiciary's understanding of this man's potential he has been ordered to eschew possession of weapons or possessions, and may not apply for a passport. Another home-grown Canadian hero.
