Oh, The Canadian 'Antiwar' Contingent

Canadian "activists" who had made their concerned presence at a conference held in Cairo, Egypt early last month are concernedly making an effort to 'activate' others for the purpose of indicating increased solidarity between Canada and "resistance movements" in the Middle East exemplified by the peace-enhancing activities of groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas. The purpose being, needless to say, to confer sympathy and encouragement from peace-loving Canadians on those struggling against the twin evils of "imperialism and Zionism".

Is this Canada? Is this my Canada? Is there something wrong with me personally that I seem to be incapable of viewing fanatical murderers as noble in their determination to slaughter their self-perceived oppressors? Why is it that I cannot wrap my mind successfully around this little conundrum? That the beleaguered and attacked state is the culprit, the entity responsible for conflict, and not the bloody insurgents who refuse to sit at the bargaining table to straighten out differences?

Perhaps I'm not the only one, since David Harris, a terrorism expert, former chief of strategic planning for the Canadian Security Intelligence Service opined it was "absolutely extraordinary" that antiwar groups would align themselves with radical Islamic groups. And why would they? Because the well-armed Islamists whose proudly stated intent to extinguish the State of Israel makes good sense to the Canadian activists?

Possibly. "What we saw in Cairo were the first signs that a world movement is beginning to come together," said one of the Canadian delegates at a meeting at the Steelworkers' Hall in downtown Toronto, debriefing their supporters post-Cairo conference. Speakers urged members of the audience to sign up for next year's conference, swelling the numbers of attendees.

"We have to forge a more solid and more united anti-imperialist and anti-Zionist movement here to be able to have something to show our brothers and sisters when we get back," one speaker explained. Jews are clearly the enemy here. Jihadists represent the 'brothers and sisters' of the 'antiwar' movement. What.on.earth.is.going.on.here? The representative of the Canadian Union of Public Employees at the conference declared that the Canadian delegates at the Cairo conference "made a very important contribution".

Really? Really! Ah, an ameliorating statement: the question of Israel was "very difficult" because Middle Eastern groups reject is right to exist. "But there is no rejection of Judaism or Christianity, which we don't hear much about here." I get it, this is a conference for the mentally unstable, the injudiciously delirious, the delusionally vulnerable of this society. Why go all the way to Egypt for company? Haven't we got our own share of nutbars?

It was carefully explained that officials from Hezbollah and the Muslim Brotherhood informed delegates they don't view religion, nationality or ideology as a barrier to co-operation with other activist groups "as long as they agree on opposing the war, striving for peace and most importantly, standing up against imperialism and occupation." Soul brothers indeed. Inside is out and clear as mud.

According to the terrorist expert commenting on this farce-for-peace, "To the extent that their audience and any of us are gullible enough to actually believe that, then perhaps we deserve the consequences." So all right, they can reap the consequences and then how do we separate their consequences from those that can be visited upon us? Doesn't their happy acquiescence impact on us?

Well, he's right on with his observation that there is "something surprising about self-styled progressive peace and human rights operatives justifying cuddling with women-stoning, gay-killing, limb-amputating medieval throwbacks". But characterizing jihadist mentalities in that way is just, according to one conference attendee, "Canadian government spin". "They want to intimidate us so we do not link up with the enemy."

Hell, no, not at all. The rest of us want to encourage the lot of you to really put your money where your mouth us. Leave this corrupt country of Canada which cannot officially distinguish freedom fighters from fanatical killers and chooses to align itself with a legitimate democracy. Take up their cudgel with their foe and live with them in that wonderfully bracing geography.

As for the self-congratulatory assertions of co-ordinator of the Canadian Peace Alliance, Sid Lacombe, that "the resistance movements are absolutely phenomenal at doing development work; they're doing any number of educational campaigns and they're doing this work to try to support themselves and to try to free themselves from the kind of violence that's being unleashed on them constantly", I'd have to say, ever so reluctantly, that he's an obvious menace to society at large with his incomprehension of reality.

As the Hezbollah leader who was quoted as having said "thanks to the Cairo Conference, 'the world is more beautiful, more promising for us. And tomorrow is for us, not for imperialism.'" pledge yourselves further, you hardy Canadian antiwar activists and join the legions of the Islamic righteous in their wonderful battle. Make room for the victims of Islamists who would prefer to migrate here and take up residence in a free and fair society that knows evil when it confronts it.
